Just wanted to say that I was a little dissapointed or rahter very dissapointed. I mean the game is good in a way but I found most of the bosses too easy or just plain cheap.(by cheap I mean just things that they throw at you to distract you or etc) I can give examples later if this thread ever gets beyong this post. The graphics were great but they fit the game and were nice. Little on the short side and the sea going parts are slow all and all I'm a little shaky now when buying games cause its 2 now that havent been that great, this and Metroid Prime and both have gotten 10's and 5 stars etc. :? I dont know who to trust anymore :?

This is a humble suggetsion, but you almost sound like you listen to hype too much and let reviews and other's opinions influence your experience too much. You can play a game cuz you heard it's good, sure, but do your best to go in without the attitude that it will be the end all be all of video games like they are sometimes hailed as, otherwise you'll constantly be disappointed by whatever game you play.

I definitely agree. As a habit, for the big Nintendo titles, I don't follow the press at ALL prior to release. I know that I'm going to buy it regardless, so why pay attention to what other people are saying about it? I play it, then I read the reviews and all the excessively blown-out-of-proportion message board speak.

Whether you want it to or not, reviews and word of mouth can drastically affect how you experience a game (good OR bad). Sometimes just one sentence can make or break it for you. Isolate yourself like a luddite until you get to play it!

I agree that Wind Waker was to easy. I hope that they will make the next Zelda game harder.

I liked that it was easy. I think the only thing that kept this game from being great was the sailing parts. They are boring to begin with and they take up a good half of the game.

By the way, I also didn't enjoy Metroid Prime.

I loved the game. Sure it was pretty easy, but I've blew through the game 4 or 5 times and it never gets old.

The game was a bit too easy but the presentation and the graphics and the puzzles, I really enjoyed. Sailing wasn't that bad. Not really too different than riding your horse across land.

Sailing killed it for me. If the was about 1/2 or 1/3 of the sailing, I would have enjoyed it much more.

I've tried playing through this game SO many times, and I can never get into it.

I really didn't mind sailing that much. While it did slow the game down, the ambiance made it bearable. Watching the day change into night and the weather change as well was pretty sweet. Plus there were those obstacle course and treasure hunting.

I stille have mine awaiting its first play.
I did play the demo when i got my cube and Ive wanted the game since then.
As far as metroid goes, for me that was the game. THE stand out game of this generation. I had to go get my wife so she could see the underwater space ship stage. just great.

i agree. the first time i played through the game i hated sailing. the second time i played through i really appreciated the depth sailing had to offer. it helped that the second time i tried to get every treasure and played every sailing game.

going from island to island became fun.

AND, once you got the warp song, whatever it was called, sailing became much less of a hassle.

I thought WW was a beautifully crafted game with amazing gameplay and use of the gamecube controller. It is tied for my favorite GC game (eternal darkness!)

Well I didnt mean for it to sound like it but when I see 10's and 5 out of 5 etc I expect the game to be good and it was but usually when a game gets a score like thats its good all around not just here and there. Well forget about that, I got the game, I liked it sorta but not as much as I would have if I didnt read any reviews(I actually didnt but saw the scores) well if I didnt read any scores and knew nothing about what it got I still would have had the same reaction, the game is the game a review cant change that.

Well there's you're biggest problem, basing a game purchase off simple review scores is probably you're biggest setup for disappointment. Generally even if a game gets a 10/10 or whatever, the reviewer will quickly touch on one aspect of the game he/she didn't enjoy so much. Like the fact that you found it too easy may have been the case with a reviewer too, but he/she didn't think it mattered so much. I mean you pretty much have to read the reviews at least. Moreover if you really want to be a smart shopper you should read the reviews of the people that didn't give it 10s.

Personally, I don't put much faith if any in most all reviews when it comes to buying something, but I mean you wouldnt buy a computer just because you saw Consumer Reports rate it #1 Best Buy. Consumer Reports is usually decent, but you'd want to check to see if it had the features and such that you needed/enjoy.

i can't see anyone not liking Metroid Prime. the biggest complaints i see are the controls, but if you won't get past the controls and enjoy the game, you're not a gamer.

on Wind Waker, definitely too easy and tedious. fun, but nothing like Ocarina.

i despised metroid prime. never could get into it, i don't mind some backtracking, but it felt like i was going through the same thing over and over. i really tried to like it, but i guess i just suck!

Same here. I could never get into Metroid Prime. Im not sure why. I dont like the controls, but I played quite a way though the game and got used to them.
As for the sailing in WW I didn't mind it at all. I had quite a bit of fun sailing around.

Control had to my biggest issue with MP. Otherwise I thought the game was pretty good, not 10/10 good though.

Yes it was rather easy, hell all the problems you described exist in nearly every zelda game.

I loved both Zelda and MP, easily GOTY of 03 and 02 (IMO). I guess gamers are just getting more and more spoiled as time goes on, Myamoto was right :(

Metroid has a very easy control system. Once you get used to it, the controls are very fluid and it is easy to understand why they went with the control implementation they did.

As far as Zelda games, WW is the first one I actually collected all the piece of the tri-force( I have a bad habit of getting to the end of a zelda game and never finishing it)

Metroid Prime I loved. Wind Waker was good, but I agree with the fact that it was way too easy. I think it got a few GOTY 03 nominations/awards, but I don't think it deserved it. It was a beautiful game and a fun game, but it felt not only too easy but too drawn out. Even though it was kinda short as it is, I would have rathered them leave out the "collect the triforce" crap at the end. Or at least make collecting the triforce challenging and fun. It should have been like the original Zelda - 9 triforce pieces, 9 dungeons.

I loved the ending of WW. Good stuff. Really good end fight.

I agree with what some of you guys said about Metroid Prime. I've yet to finish Metroid Prime even though I bought it during its first release. My biggest problem is with the controls...I just didn't like how the buttons were set up. I think I would have gotten way more into the game if there was a way to reconfigure the buttons. An no way am I buying the sequel until I finish the first.

Windwaker was great until they brought in the stupid sailing all over the place to find the Triforce pieces. I stopped playing it after that. I just guess I'm not not cut out to be a sailor....long hours of in game boredom just don't cut it with me anymore.

I really enjoyed the whole concept of the Wind Waker. The underwater world of hyrule and everything was just cool. I took some time off of work just to complete this game. I got everything but one heart container. I enjoyed the dungeons and the animation and characters.

Metroid Prime on the other hand is another excellent title. I not sure why but I played it for a few hour when I first bought it on release and then pushed it aside for some reason (I think I got stuck somewhere). Well I busted it out to finish before the echoes comes out and let me tell you this is an excellent adventure title. The controls are perfect for the game you really just have to think that you are not playing a FPS you are playing Metroid through the eyes of Samus. I just beat down the Rock Monster and got the . . . don't want to spoil.

Another great gamecube title is Eternal Darkness. A very good reviewed game that did not sell well which is a shame. Excellent story with many different characters and areas to play. Plus the insanity effects will mess you up. If you can find it cheap pick it up one of the top five for the gamecube.

My Top Five:
Metriod Prime
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
Eternal Darkness
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Melee

Also don't forget
Viewtiful Joe
Pikim Series
SW Rogue Squadron 2

The collecting the triforce did suck. But I hit Game$$$s(and yes I meant to spell it that way) for a walkthrough and it only took me about 45 mins to collect them all. The part where you get the master sword is a top 10 gaming moment for me I loved that part

the more i think about this game the more i remember how bad ass it was. i think at the end of this semester i'm going to replay it.

i really want to see how having "tingle's tuner" adds/takes away from the gameplay. has anyone played it with the GBA hooked up?

zewone
10-25-2004, 10:16 PM
Yeah. It was fun playing it with my cousin I used the Tingle Tuner and he played as Link and vice versa. I recommend trying it out. I missed a lot of treasure because I didn't use it the first time through the game.

Easy game but great nevertheless. Only thing I hated about it was the boat traveling.

that sounds like fun, but is going to be a nuisance if i do it by myself? i'm guessing it will be a lot more fun if i have someone playing along.

Yeah. It wouldn't be as much fun if you have to stop playing to use it, but try it. You might enjoy it.
