Your kitten may have taken a nap inside. Let it out first.
Give it a good solid hit on the left side. The Xbox.

Make sure it doesn't swallow its tongue.

Might've been placed on uneven ground. Turn it on.. push it a bit, kick it, pick it up and drop it, whatever. It'll work.

is it shaking or just humming loud from inside the machine?

These machines are very weird (and poorly built IMO, at least the Thompson versions). Mine doesn't shake but from time to time it likes to turn itself on randomly. The first time it scared the crap out of me, so now I just unplug it.

Yeah it freaked the hell out of me too! It usually only does it when I've been playing for awhile then turn it off.

So its probably overheating, you could try moving it into a better ventilated spot or just clean out the fan.

As long as the CD tray doesn't eject itself and you hear a faint 'playyyyyyyy meeeeeeeee', I suppose it's okay..

Haha yeah, although sometimes the tray refuses to open, but at least it isn't talking to me....yet...

it's the spindel type thing that moves the disc.....original ps1's do this too
In fact, mine did so early yesterday morning after putting in guardian's crusade for the first time.
Turned the machine off, and spun the thing in the correct direction manually a few times. It worked again when I turned back on. However, what your describing is probably a more serious alignment issue and definitely needs repair
