I am wondering this because you cant walk into really any store that aint named Ebgames and Gamestop and pick up a copy. Its also has the ATLUS name on it....what are your guy's thoughts?(my toys r us got a single copy, buried in a box with several budgeted titles, dont ask thats just how it was sent, and was found on accident)

If Atlus is still Atlus (and they are) then yes this will be a rare title. I think Atlus likes to see there games sky rocket on the resale market they get off on it or something. TO:KOL for gba is a great example of this, a $30 game that goes for at least that much used still.

Yeah it'll be rare. It's not carried at a lot of major chain stores and they'll probably stop printing new copies early next year.

Disgaea was the only game to get a second printing right?

im thinking about buying it and keeping it sealed, and just rent it from an online store(blockbuster B&m do not carry it)

Sigh... this game won't be rare. Atlus has realized the demand for the games they publish, as evidenced by their Disgaea rerelease, and is hence printing plenty of copies.

Isn't there ALREADY a thread discussing this? I could be wrong, but I'm about 90% sure there is.

EDIT: Yes, yes there is: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32333

Well, I know people who are buying it only because they think it will be rare. I'm sure it will be more rare than most games because it is by Atlus but I don't think it will be crazy rare based on the fact that there are those people that I mentioned (who normally would not buy it) buying it for collectors purposes. I think everyone should buy it, not because it will be rare, but because it rocks. If you have a PS2, I really think it is worth a look.

60,649

That is the number, as of Sept 26th 2004 that Disgaea has sold in America. This being Atlus' biggest selling title. It may not seem rare because a lot of people that like it, happen to be friends with other gamers who also like those kinds of games, but in reality it really is rare.

For comparison, a game that is gernerally considered to be "rare" like Powerstone 2, sold 112,363 copies, thats almost double the amount of Disgaea, and is considered more rare.

where did you get those numbers? I've been looking for a website that lists all the data for games, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me a link.

The site isn't very good for finding old titles, as there is no way (that i know of) to search, and most of it is in japanese, but you can find a lot of fun info on there. If you find a way to search for titles, I'd be thankful if you told me.

The special edition of Shin Megami Tensei Nocturn is rare. the CD only came with the first shipments

I'm assuming Shin Megami will get rare within the next year. All Atlus games seem to.... But you could probably find it if you tried.

The collector's edition, however.. Prepare to fork up a pretty bundle for it on Ebay.

I hope it becomes rare. We need more next gen rare titles out. Without rare titles, it gives collectors nothing to do.

If the Megaten series gets popular at all, they'll do a second printing. The other Atlus games just got the way they are because they got popular long, long after the intial print run has ceased.

Oh booh hoo then the collectors will have to set outragious prices on common games, man I feel so sorry for them.

Well at least thier idoicty is getting me Star Ocean 3 for an old Suik 2 disk.

I don't like when games become rare... I like being able to replace my old copies, just like with books.

They're selling them at Toys R Us so it's not like it's some obscure title that can only be found at the hardcore game store. As for Atlus games being rare and valuable no matter what they release, Dual Hearts is a prime example as to why that line of thinking is false. Buy it if you're going to play it, otherwise if you're just looking to buy something for the sake of keeping it sealed consider Growlanser Generations Deluxe pack instead. The print run on the deluxe pack for that game is very limited and it's Working Designs which pretty much is on par with Atlus for the whole pulling the game off the shelves before a year has gone by.

Even if it's sold at Toys R Us, it may become hard to find. I've read about people here buying multiple copies of it. So if a few people buy 3 copies of it, they'll run out pretty quickly. I'm guessing that the price on eBay will stay hot for at least half a year.

I wouldn't want to spend money on buying Deluxe sets or other "special" versions of games because only very few gamers are actually that hardcore.

I think I'd rather not have collectors jacking up game prices when they have so many other things to ruin. I've gotten my fair share of cheap stuff but that doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer reprints of certain games to increase availablity.

Oh and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne will not become rare because its sparked to much interest, it may however be like Disgaea and keep its price up due to demand.

JSweeney
10-25-2004, 10:05 AM
It's possible, but Disgaea wasn't part of a much LARGER series that they're testing the waters for in the US. Megaten is going to get games brought over.. this and Digital Devil Saga show us that.
But if sales are better, they may start bringing some of the other stuff over.

Right now, this is thier franchise building game... they want this to get into as many people's hands as possible.. so if it gets to a point where demand far exceeds supply, they'll dump a couple thousand more units on the market.

A great deal of the other games that became rare/hotly demanded were usually one-offs, so there was no real compelling reason to repress it time and time again.

Nocture, on the other hand, if successful, opens the door for a flood of other Megaten games.

I think it will. Most all of Atlus games turn out to be rare. I'm still trying to finding a copy of Tactics Ogre and Rhapsody for PSX and can't. Usually, Atlus games won't seem very rare for about a year, but then they'll be very hard to find. I also have trouble finding Sky Gunner, Dual Hearts, and Cubivore right now.

Really, I love finding rare stuff, for cheap then selling it on eBay for alittle profit. It's kinda a hobby. Anyways I have doubts too on MegaTen Nocturne becoming rare. But it won't bother me cause I don't plan on getting rid of mine anytime soon.

You and everyone else. That's why it isn't going to happen..
I know that I could easily go out and find a copy of each of those games before the day is out if I put my mind to it.

It probably won't be rare. Atlus seems to be really pushing the series here and it being released right before the Toys R' Us sale will likely push it's sale number up, which will make Atlus think it's in demand.

edit: Cubivore is $29.99 (new) at http://www.videogamedeals.com for those interested.

I don't know if it will be GH. Don't they have to sell millions of copies to be a GH? ALso, I don't see it at many places and I haven't seen many ads for it.

I think that people will overlook this game because of other high profile games (Halo 2, MGS 3, Mortal Kombat, Fable, etc). Then, next year when the hooplah has died down, people will say "WHatever happened to that RPG?" and will desperately try to find it. This will drive the price up on Ebay. ANd since it was overlooked, Atlus will think that there is no demand and stop making them.

Gamers will notice this title, but the average joes on the street (which out-number us gamers) want big name shit. Look at Beyond Good and Evil. It's cheap now, but in 2 years when people are searching for it, it will be expensive.

I'm not trying to convince people to buy it, but this is just something I have noticed. We ignore games, then when we hear how good they are, it's too late.

Nah, a title has to sell 400,000 units to go GH. Nocturne will probably sell that many before christmas.

As for "beyond good and evil will be expensive in 2 years" well iit is a multisystem game, so even if one of the versions becomes rare, then the rest will still be cheap.

As for why nocturne may be hard to find is some parts of the usa(for example, none of my tru, target, BB, CC have it) the shipment was delayed because they repackaged the initial shipments with the soundtrack. I am hoping that all the major retailers eventually carry this game,

I really want to see the xbox version of shin megami 9 get a usa release, and that will only happen if nocturne sells really well in the usa(which it is)

Wow, only 400,000 for a GH? That's a small amount. At least I'll have the non-GH. :D I got the soundtrack in my Nocturne.

I also hope the bring the Shin Megami game out for Xbox here in the USA.
