The short of it:

A 13-year-old Hong Kong boy flew into a rage and threatened his parents with a kitchen knife after his father pulled the plug on his computer game, police said on Monday.

Man, that's rough. I really never left the tv when I was younger, I would eat in front of it. Still I don't think I would ever pull something like that to my mother. Besides my love for her, I knew I would have gotten the crap kicked out of me by my whole family. Nothing like a bunch of mad hispanic family members to teach you what's wrong :D

What? That's not normal behavior?

You'd be surprised. My sister foolishly erased my entire paper mario AND my ocarana of time file.. (back in the olden days when N64 was the shiznit) ON PURPOSE I TELL YOU! So's not to say I went into a bout of rage and messed up her room and erased all her files in the 2 games. Hey man, I had unlocked EVERYTHING in all those games. I was.. let's see.. 9? 10?

What is it with kids not wanting to go to bed? Sheesh.

This sounds like another one of those reports designed to make games sound evil. of course not knowing all the details I can only assume this kid was in the middle of a deeply involving game that had required hours of concentration to get to where he was, just to have someone yank the power and possibly destroy all that work and possibly what ever he was playing it on (if it was PC).

You know if someone ripped a canvas I'd been painting one for 6 hours straight or pulled the plug on my computer after 8 hours of GCing a pic, I'd probably want to kill someone too.

That's just reality.

Two words: meat pudding. That's what I would have been reduced to had I attempted such a stunt in my youth. The cops would've been too late to do aught but perform an autopsy.

Somewhat reminds me of this incident (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ibsys/20040311/lo_wkmg/2047874) that happened last week.

All beacuse of GTA I betcha. He was just about to get the Verceti mansion. What was dad thinking! He had it coming didn't he.

BAN ALL VIOLENT GAMES! VOTE FOR ME!

The kid could have turned off the game and went to bed or decide to continue playing and keep it real.

Hmm, I can go into a blind rage sometimes, like when my brother threw two Xbox games at my forehead. So, that Hong Kong kid was I guess a little bit short-tempered, but I can see where he's coming from. But the 7 year old causing an apartment fire JUST because a certain TV show didn't air, now that I don't understand. Man, if I were his parents, holy shit, he would get the beating of his life. I think I'd ground him to, let's say, 16 also. Well, it might not be his fault, he might have some kinda of a condition or he's used to getting what he wants (spoilage by parents). If either one of those was the case, then I guess I'd go easy on him.

It just goes to show, videogames don't cause violence -- lack (or removal) of videogames causes violence.

For some reason, I think that this kid always stays indoors and never goes outside...

This has been another example of "When keeping it real goes wrong".

But the kid lives in Hong Kong, so you don't know the situation. Maybe he is a slave in a textile factory and computer games were his escape from reality, cause he might have severe depression.

How does a kid who's a slave in a textile factory afford computer games?

Cloned hardware and pirated games?

Jesus, whats wrong these kids? Pulling the plug on a game is no excuse to threaten you parents with a knife. That's bullshit.

x0thedeadzone0x
03-17-2004, 12:56 PM
I would disagree with you Mr Anderson, but only if the kid had good reasons.

Every once in awhile, people flip out and go on a spasmatic, uncontrollable violent fit of rage. And one of those starters is ripping out video games. Like if they had beaten the last battle on Final Fantasy X, and the dad said son, you've been playing too long, time to shut it off *oooooooops* and it just took the kid about 50 hours to level up to finally beat him. And besides, it could have escaladed into the point where the kid threatened the parents with a knife, so the parents could just be exaggerating, as sometimes parents do. There could be causes and reasons behind the kid's pulling the knife out, maybe his favorite TV show was cancelled so he flipped out. Who knows?

EggViper

wow thats taking it to an extreme, but maybe it goes deeper than just the game? maybe the parents have always been abusive and the kid finally snapped. but if it was just over a game, that kid needs some help.

Geeks like this should be strung up on a fucking flaming board. Piece of shit kid...I can't stand gamers for the most part espicially ones like this. Thankfully you d00ds are all cheapassgamers...which Makes it different I guess :D

I guess its true. It depends on the situation, but that kid must have been REALLY high-strung.

Even if this was the case I would think the kid had enough common sense to save once in a while. I don't think its possible to go 50 hours into any game without saving at one point or another unless you go out of your way to do so.

How do we know its true?
The communist government regulates all media.

According to the government the student union protestors at Tiananmen square were armed and were shooting people! (video evidence tells a different story)

If that happened to me I would want to do the exact same thing. I think anybody who wouldn't want to is the weird one.

Fortunately, I have a little thing called sanity that would prevent me from jumping up and stabbing the hell out of my parents like that kid tried to do.

*damn political fuel* I hope we get politicians that like video games some day . . .

Man, if I were his parents, holy shit, he would get the beating of his life.

30 years ago, you would have been safe doing something like this. Today, you'd be arrested and jailed for child abuse. If I were his parents, I'd turn this little ticking time bomb over to the state government. Some kids are just plain screwed in the head, and no amount of proper parenting is going to make a difference. It's certainly not worth risking your freedom or your family's lives to keep a nutcase like this in your home.

No, the boy lives in Hong Kong.
They don't have human rights laws.
They can beat him to death legally.

I don't care, the boy has something wrong with him. If I would have pulled the type of shit he pulled, lets just say I would definately not be breathing right now. And my parents would have pressed charges....No joke.

whatever's the case, there might have been more things leading up to the threaten with the knife, and the parents could just be exaggerating. and even if he DID save right before the battle, it still takes a damn of a time to beat that last boss, regardless if you leveled up ;)
