got a call from my eb and they said my preorder would be in after 7 PM... Kind of late if you ask me, but I was wondering if anyone else has picked it up yet...

they did the same thing for Doom 3, the 7pm time. I think it has to do with its technically the end of the business day, so they can sell it and it would technically be on the 26th. Something like that.
Ill be picking it up tonight though.

I overheard a GS DGM discussing the 7PM deal with employees over the weekend; he seemed to indicate that it had to do with Wal-Mart and their policies/reception of the titles. It didn't make much sense to me, but perhaps to someone in the know (GS/WM employees).

thanks a lot for the info! i was thinking for sure i'd get it tuesday, but now i get it tonight after work! you just made my monday so much better! thank you. i live in a relatively small town, so i don't expect a line past 5-10 mins, if anything. i remember rushing up there at opening with some friends a few years ago when Diablo 2 came out, thinking we'd have to fight our way into the store...then we got there and we were the only people in line lol. so maybe i'll be that lucky again tonight.

ive steered clear of all media for this (except reading some of scrubking's posts about it) honestly, im not THAT excited about it, but thats good, because i was pumped for VC and it was quite a letdown, so this time i decided to just accept it for what it was, and buy into the hype of it.

yeah some employee at gamestop was asking me if i had pre-ordered it already, he said good cuz he expected it to be sold out for weeks... i found that hard to believe, they already know how many guaranteed copies theyre gunna sell with the pre-ordering, you would think theyd order and extra 300 or so copies of the damn game lol and so many people who wanted it pre ordered it so people should still have the game after the rush tonight and tomorrow... and yeah too bad im working tonight otherwise i would definetely be picking my copy up...

I've got like six places to check for it tonight.. EB, Gamecrazy, Hastings, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us.. and Rhino. I'm going to buy it. I NEED something to get my mind off of current situations. I'll sell it on the board in a week or two.. maybe I'll run a contest. We'll see.
My EB is doing preorders only, but they might get an extra copy or two. They have around 800 Halo 2 preorders, and "less than half of that" for GTA:SA. Hopefully it won't be too bad. I still wanna finish paying off my Halo 2.

I don't know . . . my Tue. is very busy . . . I teach until 9 at night . . . so I'll likely get it on Wed.
Maybe Target . . . raincheck will make it $35.
Maybe TRU . . . sale will make it $33 (but I'll have 2 games to return)
Maybe FYE . . . $10 coupon back on purchase makes it $40
Best Buy with a nearly free GH game . . . but I can't think of one I'd like that I don't have.
All I know is that I didn't want to do the EB Games preorder . . . the clerk I get there is such a jerk . . .

I know when GTA:VC came out, there weren't copies anywhere. I went with my friend Scott and we cleaned out a local KB, since we didn't preorder and that was the only store close to school that didn't take preorders, but other stores didn't have copies in for weeks.

I bought Vice City the day it came out at Best Buy (On Sale for $40). I didn't have it reserved, but they had plenty of copies and no line. I traded in 5 games to get San Andreas for free at EB. He said yesterday their were about 75 pre-orders there. He also said they didn't get it untill Tuesday, but I'll check.
EDIT: I just called and they said they would have it at 4pm, it is only 2:30 here on the west coast.

I don't think I ever used custom soundtracks, even in games which it may have been cool to, such as Tony Hawk 4.
I'll probably get the PS2 version next year or whenever it's $20. Also, there's the fact that we don't know when/if it's even coming to the Xbox.

Also I find it disgusting how some sites give the game a good score and all of a sudden people are wanting the game - can't you people make up your own minds?
And for the last time the thug theme is only about 25% of the game unless you want more of it.
Anyway, I got to my EB at 615 and there were a bunch of kids in there. By 700 the line was out the door. The sad part is that they were selling this game to anyone - no ID required.

I live in Southern California, more specifically, I live in Glendale. I just got back from Planet X (A store from GameStop.com (http://www.gamestop.com)). I'd say there was at least 300 people their when it the lines started to move. They were serving cake, chips, drinks, you name it. I waited 2 hours in the line that was for people that reserved the game. I arrived around 6:00 PM, and the shipments arrived around 7:20 PM, and by the time I got my copy, it was around 8:00 PM. I hadn't reserved the game, so when it got to my turn, we got confused. So the workers just cut me in the line for the line of people that didn't reserve the game. It was a huge mess, but I got out of the store with the game. Impressions later...

Fun game, but 3 problems with it:
1) Graphics remind me of a PSOne game, but I can live with it.
2) I experienced slowdown already, and it was from too many peds being onscreen. I can only imagine how bad it will be when i go on a killing rampage.
3) The language is very foul compared to any other game out there. Does a gamer really need to constantly hear the N word and the F bombs all the time?
Other than these gripes, everything else meshes extremely well.

That is exactly how I feel. I loved III, but I didn't feel VC really added anything to the mix besides new maps. I know it had other features, but I didn't really care for them that much. That's how I feel about this. I'll get it eventually, but as it is I have enough games to play.

best game ever!, I've already beefed up in the weight room and started puting some weight on at the pizza parlor..I did encounter on of the empty space gliches that was similar to the "blue hells" that were in GTA 3... I was hopping around on a bike and I somehow fell under the bridge and suspended in the air... When was the free overnight shipping deal with ebgames.com? I ordered it on 9/14 and am only getting the 'hotel card' thing. I paid over 6 bucks for 2-day shipping. Now I have to wait until wednesday to play. :( I had a 20 dollar gift code and still paid 40 bucks for the game. High shipping and tax rates make ebgames suck.

This game is amazing!
That is sad since they are in the business of games. Why not enforce the ratings? I swear this attitude from EB is going to cause a law to be made similar to California where all M rated game have to be put out of the reach and view of kids. If stores do not police themselves that lawmakers will do it for them! I personally do not want laws making it harder for me to buy video games....

Some reviews have noted that the age of your PS2 can make for a large variable in terms of lag and slowdown.
I bought my new PS2 last January, and it was the newer model and not the 390001 one. That is why I'm concerned about slowdown.

I've had a few more occasions of lag, but I have come to the conclusion that it is because of the lighting or weather effects. I have had a ton of peds and cars on the screen at the same time and no lag, but as soon as a sunset hits or fog or rain it starts to lag. I wish I could turn those effects down or off.

Well so far it doesn't seem to cut the load times down too much and it seems like the FMVs are jittering a little bit when run from the HD. I noticed the same thing on FFX so it may be my drive.

I just happed to stop into GameRush this morning to trade in some DVD's and the guy said "Here's your Grant Theft Auto game..."
"Cool," I said and went home and proceeded to play it. I honestly didn't know it was release day.
I played for an hour or so and so far all I can say is it's the same old, same old. Bigger maps, slightly better texture mapping, and more F-words that even I usually use in daily conversation. Other than the forementioned, it's exactly the same game, glitches and all.
I loved GTA3, it was innovative and new. This game, so far, isn't holding my interest for very long. I could actually play GTA3 with my son and do the taxicab and ambulance missions without much fear of anything obscene happening but I certainlly wouldn't let my son within 20 feet of this game until he's a teenager at least. They've set a new standard for vulgarity. I think the only reason for me to keep it is my anal-retentive compulsion to collect and have the complete GTA set on my shelf. I may still trade it in now for credit and buy it back next year for $20.

Wow. I got this game from Circuit City tonight. First I went to EB games, my least favorite store, and they were all out. The guys like "You should have reserved it". So I drive to CC knowing they'll have it and they did. This game is sweet. It is so much bigger than Vice City. And the bikes are actually really fun. They use "select" word's very often, almost to the point of excess. The cars are ok. The city at night is kind of hard to see. And the people in the restaurants are lol funny. This game is better than Vice City.... worth $50!

i really like this game... at first i didnt like it. i was just driving around goofing off like i usually do for the first hour or two when i get a GTA game, and i just kept getting killed and arrested for no reason. but when i started playing the missions, i really got into it.
i must say i hate the bicycle though. IMO the bicycle is shitty. i was doing the mission where you follow your fellow gang members on bicycle, and i accidentally drove into one of those empty pool type things that you ride in... only prob was i couldnt really move... i could gain a little bit of spead, ride up the side of one wall... get about halfway up and it would just stop and slooowly back down the wall... it got reeeeally annoying.

My advise on this to you and everyone who has this problem, is to jump on the EB console trade in deal (ends at the end of the month), I played the game for 4 hours yesterday on my new PS2 (from the previosuly mentioned deal) and the only load times I have experienced is going into buildings and starting missions. I have a PS2 from launch, as old as you can get, and the game never loads unless I'm going inside. If it keeps "loading" again and again, you've got a problem with your hardware.
That being said, this game is pretty ugly. Typically if a game is fun, I could care less about the graphics but this game actually takes a step back from Vice City, IMO. I'm still having fun with it, though. There are a ton of things to do and Los Santos alone is huge. I haven't even "ungreyed" the entire city yet.

Secondly, there are no load times on the map. So if the game is somehow, buy some miracle loading while you are driving around there is a serious problem with your system.
Thirdly, if you don't know how to properly drive a vehicle don't blame the vehicle and call it shit. Not to mention you have to get your skills for said vehicle up so you can control it better - yes you have driving stats now.

Well it could be the framerate on my PS2. The Gamespot review mentioned that the stuttering and framerate vary depending on how old your hardware is. I have the PS2 from launch so maybe that has something to do with it.
Or maybe it's because I'm starting to play this after coming off Burnout 3.

Anyways, the only problem I'm having so far is some wierd "error reading the GTA:SA game disc" messages that don't seem to really to affect anything but interfere with gameplay for a few seconds at a time. My PS2 isn't that old, just got it in August and can't get the PStwo because of FFXI.

I completely agree. This game is just overwhelmingly charming in all its 90's glory. The 2pac music blaring on the radio is just wonderful, and I absolutely adore the additions of the countryside. It's just amazing that you can go into shabby old shacks with fields all around you, and this growing sense of fear that a homicidal maniac might come charging through the bushes or the house if you stay for too long. :D

Yeah, I like how you don't see the same types of people in the countryside as you would in the city. The cops in the city look different then the cops in the countryside. Seeing different car types in both parts is great, too. The fact that people on the highway don't stop for anything is cool, since you can create pile-ups by stopping in front of these cars.

I noticed that a lot of people are having problems with the load time, I have to say that I haven't had that problem. San Andreas has been fairly quick with all of the loads on my pstwo, but then again it could be the pstwo...
doesn't matter though, if this game took 15 min to load every time you turned the corner, I would wait it out. This is, imho, the best game ever. There is no other game that even comes close to getting the replay value SA has (for me that is). You can play arcade games, you can drive around the town, you can ride your bike, you can crack people in the head with pool sticks, you can get a car full of your posse and go into another area of town and shoot it up, you can throw combos in fist fights, you can work out, you can swim, you can knock the bottom out of a hooker in the back ally, you can rob houses, you can hunt down criminals, you can run a taxi service, you can get sweet new clothes, you can get all kinds of tattos, you can put out fires, you can go for an atv ride in the middle of the countryside, you fly helocopters, you go gamble in the casinos, you can get a lowrider and hit the hydralics, you can get a motorcycle and do some insane jumps, you can hijack a train, or, if you have an abundance of time, you might even be able to do some of the missions...
Possible vehicle spoiler:
I was in the country, and found a combine harvester (this was a few days ago before i got to even los venturas), and when you run over people it shoots their guts out the back... simply awesome.

I flew to the other cities with a Dodo and when I got there my wanted level changed to 4 and a military jet shot me out of the air with a rocket and I fell to my death. I love this game.

Yeah your wanted level is going to 4 because the corrupt Cops told you not to leave the city, so I assume until your cop killing is taken care of your trapped.
But I love how you can now scale fences and walls, it makes the game so much more enjoyable.

besides going on dates with your girlfriend and bonin her, do you do anything else with her?.. or do you just date her the whole game?

Anyways, the only problem I'm having so far is some wierd "error reading the GTA:SA game disc" messages that don't seem to really to affect anything but interfere with gameplay for a few seconds at a time. My PS2 isn't that old, just got it in August and can't get the PStwo because of FFXI.
Anyone having this problem with their game?

Yeah, it takes a while before you start to earn some good money. One mission where you can earn a lot of money if you do it correctly is when you go to this wherehouse where the Russians and some other gang members are meeting. Officer Tenpenny tells you about it. Once you find the Russian leader you have to chase him down in a car. I shot him enough though before he got in his car and he dropped like 5000+ dollars when he died. That's should start you off nicely in the beginning.

Cracka
10-31-2004, 05:17 PM
go up to somebody wearing your gang colors, target them with L1, then press up on the D-Pad
i found out something that helps out alot as far as money goes....
i recently noticed this guy wearing blue jeans and a brown muscle type shirt. he's usually just standing still and he'll walk a little then stop and stand still... if you go up to him he offers to sell you drugs... (you cant buy drugs from him, if you respond positively or negativesly, you still just tell him to go away) but if you kill him, he drops a gun and around $3,000 ... i see this guy everywhere, and it really helps out money-wise..
theres another version of this guy who is white and wears a white hooded sweatshirt... still can get around $3000 from him.
..i have 35 notecards due in english on tuesday... i've had since monday to do these, but forgot... so far i've got none... but i'm having a hard time deciding whether i should go take over turf or do notecards :(

when somebody says something to you, you can press left or right on the d-pad and it'll say something. left is a negative comment, right is a positive comment.
i'm dominating the Ballas now. i'm now the number 1 gang... THE HOOD IS MINE FOO!

To talk to people either walk up close to them (drug dealer), or wait for them to tell you something and hit right for positive response or left for negative. You can also ignore them which makes them say stuff too.
To recruit gang members target them with R1 then hit up or down. Once you have them you can put them in active mode by pressing up, which also makes them follow you, or you can press down and tell them to wait where they are. To disband your gang get far away from them or just hold up or down for a few seconds.

for you guys who want lots of cash fast i reccommend you bet on horses. the place where you bet is under the huge freeway interval in the northeast section of the map.
Also for people who cant find their house, you can go into the map in the start menu and put a red marker on your house (or wherever) which will stay on your radar until you disable it.
happy crime commiting!

Here is another strategy I got from a guy in Gamefaqs. Depending on how fast you are, you can score about 30k+ in under 10 minutes.
Get a Robbery Van and drive over to the car mod shop in the SE. It will be the first one you unlock in Los Santos. On this street there will be a couple of houses near the end that you can rob. One is white and the other is brown. Park the van so that the back of it is easily accesible from either house.
Start the Robbery mission (has to be 1800 or later) and go into one of the houses. Instead of sneaking, just run and grab the TV and then run back out. You will be discovered but you will make it out of the house before the cop timer reaches zero without any problems. Unload the TV into the van and then go back in for the VCR using the same method.
Once you have stolen the TV and VCR, go to the other house and repeat the same process. Now go back to the first house again - the TV and VCR are back! Repeat the robberies over and over until the daylight timer is almost over. Jump back in your truck and unload your stuff to the garage which is just across the street.
I have managed to get over 60k so far and that is only doing it a couple times.

For those of you who want some new and different weapons in GTA:SA, have you gone in one of the LSPD HQ in Pershing Square? If you find the shower, there's a funny surprise in there. A weapon you would never expect to be in there. It's actually a good melee weapon.

Hoops as in Basketball?
If that is what you mean then you can walk up to a any hoop you want whether it is a full court, half court or a hoop on someones garage and pick up the basketball that is lying under it and start playing. It is nothing spectacular but fun nonetheless. You can shoot around, do 2 tricks, dunk and have a time trial.
