I'm crossing fingers that it will actually be in a Toys R Us Store this week to capitalize on the sale....This, GTA:SA and Burnout....Feel like I've been waiting on this game for a while and since I work at a gamestore I got that cool DOA Ultimate Silk Scroll which now hangs in my room....

how unfortunate that such a beautiful game (series) isnt competitive. Team Ninja has an entire department devoted to researching and developing more advanced jiggle physics.

Wow, is the game that good. I always got the impression that DOA was kinda the cheap, easy-to-play 3D fighter. I guess having online abilities, and super nice graphics with jiggle effects help.
Did DOA Ultimate add any new characters?

at the end of the day, VF 4 will be the better game . you guys don't know what your missing if you haven't played this game. It is the only 3d fighting game you will ever need besides mortal kombat for the fatalities and gore.

I played 30 minutes of DOA 3 and then promptly traded it away. DOA is garbage IMO

its certainly a broken series. A friend of mine jokingly said you could build an arcade stick with no stick and only the counter button. No one claims its a tournament ready game. Just some eye candy and fun with friends.

I'm just not that big a fan of this series. VF4 rules it and SC2 kicks its ass as well. I wish those two would hook it up online soon.

From ign...
"...DOAU should not be mistaken for DOA 4. This is not the next chapter or a follow-up to DOA 3, which was an Xbox launch title. Instead, DOAU is a two-disc set that offers the original Sega Saturn Dead or Alive and a remake of Dead or Alive 2. But this isn't some cheaply thrown together collection. The remade DOA 2, which is the true focus of this release, offers completely redesigned arenas, a bevy of unlockable costumes, and online play over Xbox Live."
So, it is DOA2 remake and the original for Saturn. Also, all the models of the girls were updated with better models from that DOA volleyball game. I'm not a big fan of the series but this certainly looks gorgeous.

I still don't understand how it gets such high scores. Is it just because of the online play? People always rip on KOF for not changing so much, but when a mainstream game like DOA comes along an adds online play, and a couple extras it's automatic gold. I'm not bashing the DOA series, cause I've played some a while ago, but it was just okay. I think most hard-core fighting game fans think DOA is somewhat of a mindless button mashing joke.

What's with all the DOA bashing? I love Soul Calibur and VF4, but DOA is just as fun, if not more. People who claim it is just "button mashing" obviously do not have much experience in the game.

That's what I was thinking. I thought VF4 was only an OK game for the opposite reason: it was TOO deep. Sometimes less is more.

The difference is that KOF has had a YEARLY edition since 1994. This is just one rehash with minor upgrades for DOA. Of course hardcore fighting fans feel that it is mindless because they don't want to lose to someone who has had little time playing the game. People hate losing their rep.
I thought VF4 was only an OK game for the opposite reason: it was TOO deep. Sometimes less is more.
I agree with that. I enjoy VF4 but it will not appeal to people who don't have time to learn all the intricate moves and strategies. I simply find DOA more accessible and more fun to play. That's part of the reason it outsells VF4 here in North America. I know I am not interested in putting a year of my life into mastering Akira's fighting style and moves.

Peeps be hatin DOA.
Shame!!!!!
IMO VF4 is the worst fighting game ever. Its slow, graphics blow, characters arent well developed storywise, and its cast is the smallest of any fighting game series Iv'e played.
It may have the most moves. But if its really slow, than who cares about moves. I want a fast paced beautifully rendered detailed game. And DOA does just that.
If you guys only care about moves, at least go with a game that faster paced and more vivid, like Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance or Mortal Kombat Deception.
DOA is a great fighting series, so quit the bashing.
My 5 fav. fighting games series would have to be:
Mortal Kombat
Dead Or Alive
Tekken
Soul Calibur
Bloody Roar
Virtual Fighter just blows.

I just laughed the whole time I read that, except I was laughing at you not with you.
There are better fighters than DOA, but I don't think VF is one of them. VF just plays too slow for my tastes, and I don't want to learn all those moves. Don't take this the wrong way. I play fighting games endlessly until I learn a character(s) moves, but the VF series just isn't something I can play much.

I understand why people whould like DOA. I like it too. It's just a fun pick-up-and-play game. But honestly I actually haven't played it for a year.
Anyways I wasn't trying to bash it. It's just doesn't feel like a seroius, deep, fighting game to me. I really don't understand how it gets great scores. Having a deep technical fighting system merits great reviews. And DOA seems like it's for collage drunks who mindlessly in their dorms play for hours.
I know how to play DOA very well. Here's my very unintersting story:
I played DOA 1 for PSX and DOA 2 for DC when they both first came out. I liked them. Anyways after the DC realease I really didn't play them for a long time. When I went to a small comic/anime convention around the time DOA 3 came out for X-Box I found a guy charging $5 to play him in DOA 3. He seemed kinda cocky so I wanted to put him in his place. Previous to this point I had never played DOA 3. Anyways if I beat him 3 out of 5 rounds I win a Spawn McFarlane toy. 4 out of 5, 2 Spawn McFarlane Toys. Then If I beat him 5 out of 5 he'll give me a Dreamcast game. After I paid he said, and I qoute, "I'll be fair and pick my character random select since I know how to play as everyone." Anyways to make a long story short I beat him easy (With Bass.) And I got a free Power Stone 2 for DC. I would've played him more but I was broke. I took my game and walked around. A few minutes later one of my friends came up with a plan to gave me $5 to play and beat him cause he wanted the Skies of Arcadia for DC. I said okay but "If I lose it's your $5." He trusted me and I challenged the guy again. This time he didn't use random select and picked his best character Kasumi. I beat him again and got my friend SOA. After that the guy I beat pulled me aside and said, "I'm sorry but I can't play you any more." I said,"Okay, I dont have any more money anyways." Then after about an hour or more walking around I left with my $5 Power Stone 2 and left.
Thank you for reading my very unintresting DOA 3 experience. I hope you enjoyed it. And expect a DVD release of it Dec 04. With an extra Directors Cut Edition.

Actually I think it's 3. Rival Schools 2 came out for PSX only in Japan with the new character Nagare (the swimer) and Ran (the photograher.) I bealive Rival Schools 3 is the DC release. My GF tranlated the Japanese for me one time and I'm pretty sure see read it as the 3rd instalment.

lol great story man. I would quote it but its real long. I think DOA is a fun fighter and although i do think VF is slow, it also is deep which is real nice. I personally dont play it as much as street fighter, mortal kombat, or soul calibur but it is a great fighting game. For those of you saying it sucks and DOA is better, your proof is your undoing.
IGN reviews
Virtua Fighter 4 got a 9.3
Virtua Fighter 4 Evo got a 9.5
DOA Ultimate got 9.2
Gamespot
Virtua Fighter 4- 9.3
Virtua Fighter 4 evo-9.2
DOA Ultimate-8.8
So if you go by the sources given in this thread, VF is overall better but not by much. Personally i think the bickering should end because i dont get why people cant embrace multiple games of the same genre that are both GREAT but appeal to different type of people.
Yes college drunks should be able to have a great fighter and "hardcore" fighter lovers should get a fighter thats deep to satisfy what they want.
Then you got the guy like me who wants a great fighter he can pop in and play with his college drunk buddies but also have a fighter he can play against those hardcore fighters who would call DOA a button masher.
Bottom line, we all win^^....at least i do

now lets look at this in a realistic/ fighting point of view for those that call VF4 too slow. people that say this dont even bother to master their character and just suck at playing video games. It is slow for people that just punch and kick instead of learning to counter and slam your opponent. I understand why they want to play an easy game like DOA where it might be faster paced but you dont get the overall feeling that the best fighting games leave you.
VF4 is a game that has a challenge, keeps you working hard to become the best you can. DOA is just a kid's fighting game with adult themes. DOA is just a whole bunch of nice environments that are not needed in a fighting game.

but still, does doa ultimate play just like doa 1 and at times doa 2?
the larger question about fighting games is what is the difference between a remake and a sequel? does a remake equal only better graphics, does a sequel mean new fighters, arenas, different gameplay mechanics?
the things that make doa ultimate a "remake" of doa 1/2, aren't these changes also applicable to how doa 3 was a "sequel" to doa 1/2?

well i do admit one of the reasons i dont like DOA as much is because of how they make the girls look, i actually feel like a pervert playing the game in front of other people. I mean come on this is a reason gamers get looked at as nerds who cant get a girl. If i wanted to see that stuff id go to my gf and those who dont have a gf can just buy a darn xxx movie.

The problem with VF4 is that the learning curve is so high that the payoff just isn't there if you don't have any friends who put in the same amount of time in learning the game. If the next VF had online play, that would alleviate the problem. DOA is probably the most accessable fighter available but the "Ol' Boys" mentality of the hardcore fighter is what drives people away from the VF series to Tekken, Soul Calibur and DOA in the first place. The first Virtua Fighter was the most generic in character design since Karate Champ and that hurt it in the US. This was when everyone was used to the designs in SF, MK and Fatal Fury. I still think that kept mainstream interest away as much as anything. VF4 tries to inject more personality with the characters (and does it well IMO) but other games (SC, Tekken, DOA) still do that better. You HAVE to do something that makes more than a hardcore segment give a damn if you want to get noticed. Soul Calibur had its weapons, Tekken had its great character designs and tag matches, DOA had its boobs and reversal system. VF has been pretty much status quo. The trend to streamlined gaming experiences have affected lengths of RPGs and when it comes to fighting games, the mainstream consumer wants something that is readily accessible. Almost every fighting game company has at least tried this. Capcom came out with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (arguably its most popular title to date) and hardcore gamers immediately bitched about how "noobs" could button mash, not realizing that the new interest could only be a good thing. Accessibility brings more faces to the fighting game scene and can only be good for the genre. Guilty Gear rode that wave for all its worth and is now mentioned in the same breath as any Capcom or SNK fighter.

How is a XXX movie less perverted than a fighting game that happens to have bouncing (clothed) boobs? There is no logic in that whatsoever.

It isnt less perverted but at least the intentions are clear. Not everyone wants DOA to see the girls, they want a fighting game not a cheap porno. I think its offensive to me to think they put big chested women in a game for it to sell more. I mean come on its a game, its like people who enjoy hentai its sick and perverted. I worked at retail and a few customers really did buy the game over others because the girls. In my mind those people should just buy a porno and view it on their own time instead of it being added to the game. Real girls dont have chest that big and if they did why the hell would they be fighters? If it were realistic these girls would be Tom boys who dont really care about wearing suits that show themselves off as if it were raining in the game 24/7.
There are men in the game too but how many do you see on the cover? Or in ads for the game?
I dare you to go here http://xbox.ign.com/ on the front page you see 3 pics. The main one stating a DOA review..girls only in pic. The second one a little smaller showing a girl appearing to be naked up to the top of her chest..next to it "lets see if the GIRLS of DoA really kick butt" ...no mention of guys anywhere. The third is a picture of 2 girls fighting in bikinis...that was my point its in your face and since it is such a good fighting game it shouldnt need to use that as a sales tactic.
Do other games do this? Yes. Do they do it as bad? Heck no. Thats my point about playing this game, i know im not a pervert and yea my gf and friends know too but when playing in front of anyone who isnt playing the game with you, it feels weird. thats IMO but thats my logic

I kind of see what you are saying but remember where this game comes from, Japan. Things like this aren't as big a deal as they are in the US. It works in other ways too. Mortal Kombat put obscene amounts of blood in to get attention from Street Fighter. It may just be me, but I'd much rather see a fighter in a skimpy costume than a character that literally rips a spine out of someone to get attention. That violence more disturbing and perverted than watching a thong IMO. Heck my sister plays DOA on occasion with me and she doesn't seem offended at all.
I can respect your opinion though, I just wanted to make sure you knew that. :)

I like DOA plenty, but I have zero interest in DOA3. I bought DOA1 when I had a Saturn and then got DOA2 when it came out on DC. Then a friend imported DOA2:LE for me, and I sold my old DOA2. Pretty much, DOA2:LE is the only DOA I'll ever need.

DOA was fun when I didn't know any better.

DOA is such a bland and boring fighting game IMO. The online tag is the only thing that saves this game.
