So, I've decided to get ready for Halo 2 by attempting to perfect my console FPS skills. My plan is to re-complete all FPS's I currently have on my X-Box Here is my regiment so far:
Breakdown (picked up yesterday at EB for 10bucks A/C)
Return To Castle Wolfrnstein
and then Halo 1
well this is my FPS fitness plan, like Rocky during the Rocky IV montage
so by Nov 9 I'll be ready to beat that Russian, I mean Aliens or whatever
How are you getting ready?

its a good game, but i dont see how playing Breakdown or Wolfenstein will get you ready for halo2. i would just stick with lots of Halo 1. and if you have broadband, hop on Xbox Connect for some stiff competition.

They probably won't help all that much, but It will be fun anyway

I was working on Breakdown. It gets extremely frustrating toward the end. I'm on about the 11th stage out of 13, and I just had to let it go for a while. The checkpoints also seem to get fewer and farther between where I am now.

I'm at the part where there's a large shielded door guarded by two Heavy T'lan brutes and several Assault T'lans. The best strategy is to draw them out one at a time and deal with them individually, but it's a lot easier said than done. The Heavy T'lans take at least 4-5 big combos, and you damn well better not let them hit you first. Not to mention I'm out of battery packs for the anti-T'lan cannon.

***END POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
The plot is the only thing keeping me going at this point. Fighting more than one enemy at a time, especially the special flavor T'lans, becomes more of an exercise in frustration than anything else. There are some exciting moments though (trying to shut off all the valves in the air tunnel rooms), and for the first time a game actually made me say "Ohshit!" out loud (in the sewers).
I began Breakdown on Normal difficulty, but had to restart on Easy. I think I got to the part fairly close to the beginning where you have to fight two of the T'lans hand to hand and just kept gettting whupped.
I did enjoy the game once I dropped the difficulty down to a level managable for me.
Oh, and it doesn't get easier from there wsb  I think you're still before the part I had the most trouble getting past.
Genma Onimusha is the other game I remember having to restart on Easy.

My copy of Breakdown is still sealed, and it'll stay that way now that I have GTA:SA.
I guess I'm getting ready by playing Yoshi's Island, since that's what I did last night ...

WSB - Yeah, thats a tough part. Great game I beat it on Normal and the last areas is really damn hard. Good luck. I got that "O-Shit" feeling in the sewers too.

I beat Breakdown on normal, but I had to take a break for about two months so I didn't have a breakdown from the frustrating part at the end. If you have been there you know what the hell I mean. I was swearing throwing controllers and getting realy drunk simultaneously. Somehow I won, and regained my sanity. It can be done.

I didn't think breakdown was that difficult. The most difficult part is at the beginning when you have to fight those 2 guys before you get most of your power. The next to last boss is kinda hard too (and one of the coolest boss fights I've had in a long time).

Breakdown might help with the melee combos but otherwise its as different from halo as could be because theres really no effective gunplay involved.
Been doing some halo lans and Perfect Dark as well as some Pandora mercing.
Breakdown is an awesome game story and concept wise but its truly the most frustrating thing dealing with a half dozen charging enemies with snipers at once- took me about 30 tries to get to the final stage- fantastic game overall tho- it was totally worth it to see it all come together.

See you guys online maybe?
Halo 2 doesn't matter much to me. I will play on Live, but that is all. Other games have me occupied at the moment.

Practice? Eh....

Well I've been playing Halo multiplayer almost every weekend for the last coupla years. Does that count as practice?

You think practicing will help that much when someone can just buy one of these (http://gear.ign.com/articles/558/558944p1.html) and just use the whole mouse and keyboard combo...?

I was kind of hoping theyd be a rarity and even then id be booting anyone who was better than me- seeing as thats unpossible.

I'm patiently awaiting my Smartjoy Frag (I chose the longest, but cheapest, shipping method). :D
From what I've heard, it's really great for some games, not so great for others.

I loved Breakdown. Sure it had a lot of faults, but it is still just about the most immersive game ever. All of the big fights (you know with who) are completely bad ass. The plot is nothing amazing, but I have seen many movies with far worse plots. I liked its Matrix meets Donnie Darko meets generic Sci-Fi movie plot.
And on a Halo note, I have been avoiding most media on it. I don't want to get my hopes up too too high. Anyway, do people know if the maps from the original are going to be in it? I need my Blood Gulch and Sidewinder.
I worry that it might suffer the same problem that Goldeneye -> Perfect Dark had. Goldeneye had such kickass levels (especially Complex, Facility, and Bunker), whereas the levels in Perfect Dark were mediocre for the most part. My friends and I only played on the Goldeneye maps with 2 exceptions. I fear that the maps in 2 might not hold up to my expectations.

Blood Gulch has been confirmed. A strongly rumored map has been Hang 'Em High. I haven't heard anything about Sidewinder, and how can you like that map? Ick.

I hope the rumor about HH is correct. That is my favorite level.

Well, most of the media's on NDAs so they won't say. One of the mailbags at IGN someone simply asked if Blood Gulch was included and the reply was he couldn't say. Not a "no" but a bit of a hint that he couldn't say. So that may tell you something. Obviously the game was leaked so there are people out there that know the answer. It's just a matter of whether you want to accidently stumble across spoilers while searching for your answer. From your post though, I doubt you'd want to do that...and I know I'm not gonna risk it. No broadband for me so the only thing I'm getting out of Halo 2 is the campaign. Wouldn't want to read about it first.
EDIT: well...it seems we have our answer above...

Hmm, it may seem that Blood Gulch has been renamed to Coagulation. And Burial Mounds is the rumored Hang 'em High.
EDIT: Ignore what I said about Hang 'em High, I just did some quick research and found that Burial Mounds is a desert-themed map. But I still hear rumors of Hang 'em High in Halo 2.
EDIT AGAIN: Its also rumored that the map named "Beaver Creek" in Halo 2 is indeed Battle Creek from Halo:CE. RUMORED, don't hold me to anything besides Coagulation/Blood Gulch.

Master Lin has good info- Coagulation, Beaver Creek and whatever the improved version of Hang em High is called are unlockables.
I'm not too worried about the levels not being up to par- from the vids ive seen of the vaunted Zanzibar its well balanced. Ivory towers, waterworks and burial mounds look pretty good from the maps at bungie.net. Its always interesting to see what one or two maps become the favorites though.

What about Timesplitters? No one really gives credit anymore where credit is due. Pick that up too. Its cheap and good

Blood Gulch and Battle Creek are in there under different names. Battle Creeks is Beaver Creek and I forget Blood Gulch's new name. I also wish Sidewinder was in there instead of Battle Creek.
