View Full Version : How many times did you take your road test before you got you passed?

When I took my first road test I failed for a bullshit reason, I took it in staten island and I wasnt used to the roads w.o having lines and my driving instructor told me like on the last minute I realized the street was on was a two way and i was in the wrong lane so outloud I said oh shoot and moved to the other lane, then I saw the stop sign and was about to hit my break rather a abrupt stop than no stop but the proctor hit it for me since she was a nervous bitch and was like you were about to run the stop sign and I just put my head on the wheel and knew it was over, did my K turn perfectly and parked perfeclty, we drove back to the site and she looked over at me and said "what were you thinking, if you hadnt done what you did at the stop sign you would have passed your good enough of a driver", then she sighed and I felt like shit the rest of the day. Next time I took the test in sheepshed bay I think it was near a sewage factory, aced that test probably because my proctor wasnt a nervous nelly and I had street lines. So how many times did it take you, did anyone have it as bad as I did on the first try?

regular license, one time, then I had to get a CDL for work, took that one time and passed. You think a regular road test is nerve racking, try the CDL for transporting hazardous material one, so many things to remember to do and not to do.

It took me one time...and thats all it should take. I'm guessing most people fail because of nerves??
If that is the case, they shouldn't be allowed to drive.
If I had it my way, anyone who failed would be forced to take drivers education over again, unless you had some kind of appeal process for a bullshit reason (of failing).
I don't mean to be a dick, but if you were driving in the wrong lane, you should have failed automatically...I can see why the person was nervous.

have you ever been to staten island, the lanes are narrow as hell, its nearly impossible to tell if its a two way street in some suburban areas, there were no cars parked on the opposite side for me to tell either, dude dont talk if you dont know alright.

How are you gonna try to tell me something? "Don't talk if you don't know all right(alright is not a word ;).
No I haven't been to Staten Island....that isn't my point.
My point is, if you don't know the area you are driving in, you should PROBABLY pay MUCH more attention to your surroundings.
If you are driving down the wrong side of the road, that is your own fault, and you should not be allowed to drive.
You had to know when you posted asking how many times it took people to pass their driving test, you were gonna probably get some shit....especially if you explain that YOU DROVE DOWN THE WRONG SIDE OF THE STREET. YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING ON THE ROAD IF YOU DO THIS...Obviously that is something you learned from, and it probably hasn't happened since...but your driving test should have been over RIGHT THEN.

Yeah, I remember those. There was one about the speed limit if you're going down a dirt road with a truck with someone in the back. Another about how far your horn should be able to be heard. Those made me question if they seemed too easy and were a trick.

I took it thrice.
The first time, I had this fucking ASSHOLE guy who had something against me because I am a skinny dude with a decent car. He was this obese asshole, when he came out and saw my convertible, he rolled his eyes at me. So I did everything perfect, and I was like "Fuck yeah, this asshole can't flunk me." and I roll into the parking lot, and he's like yeah, you were using the brakes too hard, and I think you rolled through a stop sign. Learn to stop and ease the brakes.. I'm like "WTF? I stopped for too long, if ANYTHING. And since when is smooooooth riding a requirement?"
Anyway, the 2nd time it was raining, and my car is a convertible, as I said, so it has a really tiny back window, and I clipped a cone on the parallel parking cuz I couldn't see it, heh.
Third time was fine, and I've only been in one little minor fender bender after about 15,000 miles. Go me.

Heh, first time. We took four rights and then back into the parking lot. Didn't make me park or anything. But what do you expect for Valdosta, GA...? Damn glad I got out of that place.
Actually, Bemiss Road (the main drag leading to Moody AFB) has the highest per capita death toll in the state. I guess no one at the DOT thought to link that stat to the ease with which one gets a license.
They even named it the Highway of Death (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22highway+of+death%22+bemiss&b tnG=Search) in '97.

Only took me one try but a lot of my friends has to take it a few times. Here in MA you go out with a state trooper, and the one at the DMV in my town is known for his sadistic driving tests that are purposely designed to make people fail on obscure stuff.

I wasn't nervous when I took the test, and I only took it once. It was pretty easy. The reason it being so was that I had been driving since I was six. We lived on a farm, so I would have to drive trucks and such while farming. I took the test in a big city, and it went perfectly well.

Once. I was lucky though. It was new years eve of 1996. There was a huge snow storm. I took my grandpa's tempo. No was was I gonn take it in the V8 Crown Vic. Since I wanted to be safe, all I did was take my foot off the brake and let the car go 2mph. Since you couldnt see any lines, the instructor was like, how would you parallel park. Im like, carefully look in the mirros.......

10-29-2004, 12:31 AM
I had to take it twice, but only because the state trooper giving me the test couldn't find a good place to parallel park, so he made me do it behind a fire truck by a grass curb. He told me I already failed it but asked if I wanted to run through the test anyway for tips, which I did perfectly. I even parallel parked perfectly. I still had to wait a week though to try again. :x

Different states have different difficulties in road tests. My wife pretty much just drove around a block to get hers. Now when I got mine in Maine i had to do hillstops and parallel park and the damn thing took 40 minutes. Almost no one would get their license on the first try. So I got mine on my second try

Once, and I got flipped off during the test by another driver...
One thing I would like to ask though...Why do the instuctors(?) have ice cold personalitites? I mean, I know they work at the DMV, but still; I think if they at least cracked a smile once before you took the test you'd be a little more at ease.

Ya know it's weird, I never took an actual driving test at the DMV. In Va. if you score a high enough combined score on the driving course, on the road class and written exam you don't have to take it. So I didn't. I now have to renew my license tho and have to retake the written test again and am sweating it. I have a fear that I'll fail and be pulled for driving home without a license.

10-29-2004, 12:48 AM
I passed my first time, buy just barely. I think I needed to get a score of 75 (however they calculate that) and my final score was 77.
I was very lucky because one of my friends took the test a few days before and failed. He told me which instructor he had, the exact route they took, and which manuevers he had to do.
I ended up having the same instructor and my test was exactly the same as my friends. I guess my nerves got to me since I knew exactly what to do and still barely passed.
14 years of driving, 1 ticket (speeding), 2 warnings (speeding and missing front license plate), and 2 accidents (both were other drivers fault and repairs were paid by their insurance, RIP Dodge Omni)

I waved to them to go, but they waved at me to go again, so I pulled out. The lady yelled at me and said I should have waited for them. It pissed me off.

Yes. In the cut and dried world of red pen checks of a driving test he should have sat there. You gotta clear anything like that with the guy testing you, because anything else is going to get you points off. They'll assume you don't know what you're doing.

Passed on my first try.
During my test some stupid little kid ran out right in the middle of the road in front of my car too. I slammed on the brakes and didn't hit the kid. I'm surprised the lady testing me didn't fail me because of that, but then again she looked as scared as I was because of that stupid kid, so she was probably willing to overlook the whiplash. Seriously, what kind of moron lets their 3 year old kids play around unsupervised in the middle of a street next to DMV???

Passed on my first try.
During my test some stupid little kid ran out right in the middle of the road in front of my car too. I slammed on the brakes and didn't hit the kid. I'm surprised the lady testing me didn't fail me because of that, but then again she looked as scared as I was because of that stupid kid, so she was probably willing to overlook the whiplash. Seriously, what kind of moron lets their 3 year old kids play around unsupervised in the middle of a street next to DMV???
if anything doing that helps you pass, the first time some little kid ran out in front of my car i slammed the breaks horrified because i could have killed him, luckily i didnt, the proctor probably was real proud even though they dont say anything.

i passed the first time. it was easy. if you fail it the first time, i think they should make you wait a year before you can try again.

Once. I had to take it at 7 in the morning too, because I had to be on a plane at 11 AM.

Once, but the instructor yelled at me. An ambulance was about a block or two over, and he said that whenever you hear sirens no matter how far away they are you should pull over.

Twice. I had a problem with depth perception when I did the three point turn the first time
Same here, but I had to take the test using my parent's station wagon so there was less room for error. I misjudged the distance the first time and hit the curb with the front tires. d*mn, that was like 13 years ago...scary!

Twice failed me for speeding the 1st time.
Now the rest of the story: I was going 22 in a 25 zone when the instructor said something. I never heard him tell me assume everything is a speed limit of 15. I took the test in a small town and you took it in downtown.
