View Full Version : What do you think MGS 3 will be about?

Since Kojima has stated that there will be a big suprise within the first ten minutes, I was wondering what people thought the plot would revolve around.
Personally I am thinking that this is going to be a flashback based game.Solid Snake and Otacon are still looking for the Patriots, and they find out that Big Boss also had some dealings with them. You get to relive the flashback of the mission, but there is another section to the game. Kojima does not leave us hanging after MGS 2 and we actually get to infiltrate the Patriots headquaters (which is a carbon copy of Outer Heaven). Then eventually you find out the reason that Liquid could not get Big Bosses DNA was that he was not really dead, and he had become one of the 12 members of the wisemans committee. He used Ocelot to set up the events of MGS 1 and 2 to figure out who was the superior clone.
I know all that sounds a little far fetched, but all the MG games relate to previous games in the series very strongly.
And the only reason I even made this topic is I am tired of hearing about GTA, and Halo 2. I am not interested in either of those titles, and the only game I plan on spending 50 on this holiday season is MGS3.

I think it'll be about $49.95, unless you preorder it from Outpost or hit Fry's the first week it's out.
I don't like spoilers, even hypothetical ones. For MGS 2, I barred the guys who played it from telling me anything about it.

There doesn't seem to be that much hype surrounding this game, but it will be the best of 2004.
I also hope there is closure to the whole Patriots/Big Boss thing.

Say what? Sure, maybe it's not totally consuming the media like 2 did, but it is quite hyped.
Anyway, about the "big suprise within the first ten minutes," well, unless they consider the demo to be less than ten mintues, which it wasn't, then I don't think that they came through on that. I think they were exaggerating...maybe they mean half-an-hour.

Yeah, I meant media-hype. Halo 2 and GTA have the spotlight while we don't hear too much about MGS 3. Maybe Kojima is not giving anybody any updates on purpose. He knows it will sell big.

Honestly, I wouldn't believe anything shown in either the demo or the trailer(s). Doesn't anyone remember MGS 2? IN order to preserve "the big secret" tm, all of the trailers Kojima released for that game featured scenes and dialogue that were totally different in the real game.
Consequently, I'd be surprised if the demo was the actual opening to the game.
I like all of Casey's theories, but didn't Kojima say at one point that MGS3 would be less plot/cutscene intensive than either previous game? people seemed to venomously loathe the pplot in MGS2, and to even start untangling it would be a major undertaking.
On the other hand, Kojima did say that this was the final game in the Solid trilogy (though not necc. the final MG game) and that it would close the plot arc started in 1. If so, he will have to take some broad stabs at all of these major questions.

My guesses on the game...
*SPOILERS for those that have avoided any of the pre-release media*
There's already proof given that Naked Snake is most likely the young Big Boss, firstly the scene in the most recent trailer about fighting The Boss for the title of Boss and the fact that she cuts out his eye while he's captured. The one thing is that the trailers seem to be showing 2 games, 1 modern, 1 in the past. I agree with Casey you'll probably be playing as the Solid Snake we all know and love, retracing Big Boss's footsteps (via flashbacks) and at the end we finally get the showdown that's been built up in the first 2 games...

I bet that you are only in the 60's for about ten minutes or so in the whole game. The rest will be in the future 2009 or whenever MGS2 is set and will have to do with The Patriots and Revolver Ocelot and whatever other bosses they think up for this one. After MGS2 I won't believe crap I read or play about this game until its I'm playing the actual game in my PS2.

But didn't they say at the end of MGS2, that all the members of the patriots died like 100 years ago? I could be wrong, since it was a while since I played it. Anyways, whatever story line Kojima chooses to follow is okay with me, I just hope that MGS 3 will be a little bit longer this time around. At least 20 hours with a proper balance of gameplay and cinematics, unlike MGS 2.

Yes, but go and watch some of the trailers for the new game. The patriots are mentioned almost like it is a password at the end of one. I think that are still around but are keeping their identity concealed
Also, why would Ocelot be taking orders from a bunch of people who were dead?

Very interesting ideas Casey, you never know what Kojima is going to do, so they aren't too far fetched.
I don't know, but I want to be surprised.

I think just like the last time the guy in charge will go on a cocane binge and 3 days later they will have a story. All I know is they'd better make up for the last one.

Maybe the real Patriots have been using the identities of dead men to conceal themselves. So if anybody ever sought them out, they be like "oh, they're dead. oh well".
What I'm trying to say is the list of the Patriots at the end of MGS 2 was probably fake.

I remember them mentioning that and the La-li-lu-le-lo at the end of one trailer. But the trailer is set in the past so they wouldn't have known that the patriots were all dead. Also I always thought that it was Arsenal Gear that was using the guise of the Patriots to manipulate everyone.

I understand what you are saying, but I do not think Aresenal Gear was using the guise of the Patriots. Remember Ocelot mentioned them well before Aresenal Gear was even constructed.
I would not be suprised if they were made up though. Grey Fox returned from the dead, so why not Big Boss?
