I just played the demo for the first time - oh my god is this game going to be sweet. MP is my favorite game of all time (well, except for maybe Tetris) - if MP2 tops it I will be in heaven this holiday season!!! From the looks of the demo it just might....
Somehow, I doubt it.
I get picked up Metroid Prime1 during the true sale and I hated it within the first ten minutes of playing .
The visor is very difficult to target with when multiple objects are available to scan.
Strafing seems almost impossible and the autos circle strafe during target locks is really annoying {although I do circle strafe heavily during my own shooter strategies and have been doing so before it became popular with the Panther XL, it's strategically a bad choice to do it automatically because it's not always appropriate to the situation}
Having to cycle through assailable target's instead of been able to pick one manually is annoying {although slightly compensated for using right shoulder down like to target is higher than it really is, it's still really awkward to target}
Although I love the little round rolling feature, it's extraordinarily awkward to switch into normal mode and target/ fire immediately coming out of it.
In fact, if the entire game could be played with the little round rolling feature exclusively this would be one of my favorite guilty pleasure games; however, even then I wouldn't consider it a good game -- just a pretty one with fun physics.
So, in favor of not wasting my money, can you give me a reason to put it back in the machine again?
What's so great about this game?

play more than ten minutes of it. Once you get used to the controls, it is not hard to see this game is a true Metroid sequel and one of the best games to come out this generation.

The latter half of the game has lots of full frontal nudity.

Minx, I feel ya. The first time I played Prime, I cursed its name. I didn't know what to think of it.
Then, a couple of months later, I picked it up again. Something had... changed. It was actually fun. The controls weren't a hassle all of a sudden. I played it day in and day out for two weeks straight. Don't ask me why, something had just changed. Give it another try. You may be like me, one who didn't see the fun at first.

I very much disliked MP. There were 3 HUGE problems.
1. Auto-targeting in first-person sucks. Why even be using first person? One of the huge strengths of that viewpoint is the free targeting.
2. Jumping puzzles in first-person are terrible.
3. You can't strafe.
Maybe I am extra-sensitive to these issues because I come from a big PC FPS background, but I just couldn't get past these three things. I did play the game to the end, but in all honesty it is the least fun I have had playing a game that I can remember. Again, I know I'm in the extreme minority here, but I just thought I would put my opinion out there.

I can see why people who are used to other FPS games would complain about the controls (I hate Resident Evil because of the controls) but they are really perfect for Metroid Prime, IMO. Whether or not it's a FPS or not doesn't really matter. Once you learn the controls it will become second nature. The gameplay, story and atmosphere are incredible too. It is about as close to perfect as you can get.

For me it was different. Prime was fun for the first half or so (I'm guessing here, never finished it) and then it just started to bore me.

I love this game. The controls took a little time to get used to but once that happens it's smooth sailing and you can do some great run-throughs. I felt that this game was a perfect translation of the Metroid series. I loved every minute of it and got 100% completion rating on it on my second time through.

MP is one of my favorite games of this generation. The sequel is one of the few games I am really looking forward to this holiday season. I still have to beat the last boss of the first one, but it was an awesome experience up to this point.

mp isnt an fps, if you try to play her like one, she will handle rough
cough
seriously, its difficult to play prime having played alot of other fps, almost as if you have to forget how to play those games and approach prime differently. I think as a first person adventure game with strong shooter interaction, it is fantastic and one of the best games i have ever played. I imagine the sequel will similarly not disappoint (or convince those who disapprove of the control scheme).

Exactly. Don't think FPS. Combat isn't the main focus of Prime. It's pretty damn good though. It's more the exploration of the environments.

MP - First game I got with the GC and the first game I traded. I guess I was just too used to playing FPS on the PC, and the controller just did not give me the control that I was used to having with the keyboard / mouse combo.
I will give MP2 a chance, though.

I love MP, although I am not a big FPS player. That must be a factor. When you do get used to the controls, the overall design of the game, and the levels are simply amazing. The look of the game is quite breathtaking at times.
I think the control scheme for an FPS is tough on a console in general. The only FPS I really played much on a console was Golden Eye, and that game was great!
I fear MP2 will be more of the same, which is okay, but I think Half-Life 2 and Halo 2 will get more attention.

I enjoyed MP2 and never had any problem with the controls. I think some people just needed to give the controls more than ten minutes. Also there was a semi-strafe, where you jumped to the side, I can't remember what you had to press though.

i played the games for like 3 hours or so i got to the boss thats a plant and u have to shoot those solar powered things. i really didnt enjoy the game i just wanted to play it to see what all the hype was about. i tried playing this game like 5 times from the beginning, like every other month i would try to play it to see if i will enjoy it. also a lot of times i would get a headache maybe from the enclosed enviroments, often it would happen to me in halo during closed rooms. i think i prefer the 2d metroids more, i dont see why this game is so good IMO, 'cept graphics wise.

I own the original Metroid.
Granted, it's been so long since I've played it that I've forgotten how and I never actually finished it and certainly never got a high enough score to see her bathing suit, but I do have it and I know exactly where it is. It's keeping my steel battalion controller company so it doesn't leave me for another woman who would handle its joysticks more often ;-)

I loved MP, it was one of my first games for the cube, and is still one of my favorites. I had to ask a friend for some codes just to make sure I got the demo disk for MP2. After getting to the end of it I was pissed because I wanted more. It'll be mine by Christmas either way.

Because Gameplay is the number one most important issue and MP excels with its amazing gameplay. The enviroments are diverse, the bosses are comparable to those in the previous Metroid games, and the game is much harder than any other previous Metroid game. Gamma Metroid and Metroid Prime were really fuckin hard

I'm not a big fan of FPS, but I do own Metroid Prime. I've only played around 10 minutes into the game, and the controls are definitely uncomfortable for me. The enviroments almost makes up for it, though. I could almost stare at it forever.
I'm not sure whether I should continue. I keep hearing so many good things about MP, but I don't really have much motivation to continue.

I like Metroid and most FPS. I enjoyed playing through the first few hours of Prime but I made the mistake of turning it off one day about a year ago.
I have yet to turn it back on and I don't have any desire to play it again. I'm not compelled to finish Prime at all.
That said, it's a damn good game and enjoyable, but not enough to make me finish it or get excited for its sequel.

I hate FPS because I get motion sickness from al the rapid moving around. MP isnt perfect but it does atleast TRY to allieviate that aspect by giving generally slower paced gameplay and lots of Morphball sequences. For that I can forgive it's first person perspective, but I do still wish they'd tried harder to make a 3rd person pserspective.
There are issues with the control I'll admit but they really did do a good job of imitating the feel of the metroid universe when you think about how they could have just turned it into a mindless Quake clone.

My roommate has tried to get me into MP, but I can't tear away from my xbox. Don't get me wrong... I love Metroid games, but I stlill prefer the 2-D versions (my reason to own a GBA:SP) I agree with those here that prefer the aim and shoot aproach rather than the methodical gameplay of MP.
That said, I want to experience MP2, but only when my roommate gets it. I'll be hoarding the TV with Halo 2 until that point and I'm afraid that Halo will win out with time.

MP isn't truly a FPS... I generally don't play FPS games and I was hooked on MP.
Think of this game as the platformer/adventure gamer's FPS.

I get picked up Metroid Prime1 during the true sale and I hated it within the first ten minutes of playing .
You know. I have seen this sentence about 8 times now, and I never get over how terrible it is.
a) "I get picked up" - What the hell are you trying to say here? Someone came to your house and picked you up? Or are you trying to say that you either got (not get) or picked up Metroid Prime.
b) "true sale" - "And lo the Lord said, 'Cast no sales before me, for I am the true sale.'" No, seriously, what do you mean by the true sale. The one sale to own them all? Do you mean TRU as in Toys R Us? Seriously, I have no fucking clue.
c) Wow. 10 whole minutes. Didn't want to waste to much of your obviously important time? I hated Halo for the first 10 minutes (5 of which are a stupid, "Can you move the joystick up?" training session and the rest are filled with no gun). I hated GTA:SA for the first 10 minutes (I didn't get the game to ride a bike). I don't think there has been a single Final Fantasy that I have liked for the first 10 minutes. Metroid Prime didn't stun me in the first 10 minutes (again, I'm not a fan of brain dead training sessions, although it isn't as stupid as Halo's) There are a lot of great games that don't have the most stunning first 10 minutes. You know what? You play the goddam game for more than 10 minutes. They didn't make the game 10 minutes long. No, they made it 15 hours long.
So, in conclusion. Learn how to spell, learn English grammar, and give games the chance they deserve.

if you can't adjust to the controls, that's pretty bad. MP was awesome, and i can't wait to play MP 2. especially multiplayer.

Jeez people need to lighten up.
That a little itty-bitty attack on me is a ticking time bomb of potential embarrassment for Tromack
...... a shame we all won't be in the room when the meaning of "true" is explained by some helpful soul or another -- I'm expecting the in person reaction to be priceless ;-)
then everybody laughs and moves on...... except for Dragon NaturallySpeaking's stockholders that is ;-)

I cannot wait for this game. I just have to beat the last boss in the first game. (ARGH!!) Anyways, I already have this paid off at EB with some credit. The 2nd game I'm going to pay $50 for in two years (The 1st being HALO 2 LE (DUH!!) And the last one before that KH).
