View Full Version : Convince me to keep the Wii I just bought

Okay, I just bought a Wii off of Amazon Warehouse for $64.99. An insanely good deal, but honestly I don't know if I need a Wii. I always planned to get one down the road, but there aren't many games on it that appeal to me. I own a PS3 and have been very happy with the games on there.

So I'm considering cancelling my order unless you fine folks can convince me otherwise. I suppose I could always resell it and even make some money but that's a bit of a hassle.

Anyway I don't care about 3D Mario games, as I prefer the older 2D marios. Paper Mario is somewhat appealing as is New Super Mario bros Wii. I also don't care about Zelda, or Metroid either. The only game that has gotten my attention so far is Epic Mickey, which is coming out in Nov.

So if any Wii owners here could list some of their fav. Wii gmes, excluding the stuff mentioned above I'd appreciate it. I'm into all genres really, but mostly Action, FPS, and the occassional RPG (don't like ones w/ many dungeons though)

Thanks!

So you just bought something and are asking us if you should keep it or not?

Fuuuuuuuuuuck yoooooooou.

lol, it was a complete impulse purchase. I was 1 of 5 to get it apparently. My gf said she wanted one so I could gift it to her, hmm

So far the games that I'd likely get for the system if I were to keep it are:

Resident Evil 4
Okami
Madworld
Dead Rising: Chop till you drop
Boom Blox

Plus some of the games from Virtual console like super mario world (my fav. game ever).

Yes, a Wii + an SD card + five minutes = a very easily hacked Wii, able to be your emulation base up to the N64, or a DVD player.

Regardless of that, there are some great games. No More Heroes 1 & 2 and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn come to immediate mind.

Get rid of it while you can.

Some games that might appeal to you (or your girlfriend) not mentioned yet?

Animal Crossing
Cursed Mountain
Dawn of Discovery
Dead Space Extraction
Endless Ocean Blue World
Fire Emblem
Geometry Wars Galaxies
House of the Dead Overkill
Klonoa
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Little King's Story (don't judge by the "kiddie" graphics!)
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Monster Hunter Tri
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
New Super Mario Bros Wii
No More Heroes (and part 2)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (or Rabbids Go Home)
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles/Darkside Chronicles
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
Tatsunoku vs Capcom
Trauma Center (Second Opinion, New Blood, Trauma Team)
Wario Land Shake It
Zack & Wiki

You might want to think twice about Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop though... not exactly a top-notch game.

Rayman is sooooooooo much better on the wii then the 360... freakin awesome game!!!

I bought a wii about a year after it came out and I own 9 games for it and only 2 are actually worth owning. I have spent more time playing gamecube games on my wii than actual wii games.

The system itself like any system is fine, the problem is all the shovelware shit games on it. Honestly, what does it say about nintendo when they let coldstone ice creme store make a game about ice creme for it?

It would be worth owning if nintendo had the nintendo seal of quality like they used to where they had rules about putting games on their systems. Now they dont give a shit, long as they get a royalty check they dont care what crap is put on it. And since so many little kids and adults that dont game but want to seem cool buy it and they will buy any shit on it.

Even nintendos first party stuff is just rehashes of the same titles and remakes. Metroid prime 3 which is just metroid prime 1 and 2...only again, mario galaxy 2 which is a expansion pack to mario galaxy 1 that walks like a sequel, another zelda game, another donkey kong game coming out, new super mario bros wii which is just new super mario bros on the ds only with 4 players (2 of which are generic toad guys) and more mini game compilations.

Sell the wii and get some good games for systems you already have.

I bought mine on impulse from Amazon as well. Was black and $137. Didn't really have much other reasoning aside from that in buying it.

Most the games I wanted to play came from watching quick looks on GiantBomb (and are nothing not mentioned in eJamers post.) Main ones that grabbed my interest were NMH and the Trauma Center games. Little King's Story is strangely addicting too. Had high hopes for Monster Hunter, but it didn't really keep me interested after a few hours.

Wish I had a more informed opinion. Pretty much in your spot, but right after I bought mine goHastings had two consecutive B2G1's... so I'm in it for the long haul now.

Thanks for all the help guys (especially ejamer for compiling that list!). I think at the price I paid, I'm going to keep the order. I figure even if I don't use it much, I can always put it on ebay down the road and probably make most, if not all of my money back.

I also forgot that it's backwards compatible with the Gamecube. I never did get one last gen, though I always wanted one (one of the coolest looking consoles imo), so that's a plus.

And with regards to Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop; I only want that because I'm hoping to get the sequel on the PS3 and I'd like to be a little familiar with the series. I don't own a 360 either so the Wii version is probably as close as I'll come for now. I do hear it's dumbed-down with less zombies on screen (more of a hardware limitation from what I've read) but also that it has multiple save slots vs the single one the 360. I also hear they got rid of the photography aspect of the game which sucks as it sounded like fun. I love sandbox games and killing zombies though so I might be able to overlook its faults. It would have been smart of Capcom to release a PS Move version to coincide with DR2's release a la Dead Space 2/DS Extraction, but whatever.

Thanks again, and feel free to keep those suggestions coming. I'll also look into you know what ;)

Metroid Other M, August 31st
Kirby's Epic Yarn, Fall
Donkey Kong Country Returns, shortly after that
Disney Epic Mickey, sometime around there too

Wii Sports/Resort if you don't have them already (seriously, they're really fun)
A Boy and His Blob (It's $15 at Wal-Mart)

Yeah that Kirby game looked great, I love the new art direction. Donkey Kong looks good too. Man, Nintendo had an awesome E3 eh? I saw at least 4 games in that show that really got me interested in getting the system (the 3 mentioned plus GoldenEye).

i personally hate my wii and would prefer to have a PS3 in its place. BUT there have been moments (though few) where i absolutely love my wii. they involved Zelda, though you marked that off, so other moments included mad world and rayman raving rabbids. super smash bros brawl was fun for a while too but personall i prefer it for the old school games i can buy

If you like 2d platformers I'd be very excited about Kirby's Epic Yarn & Donkey Kong Country returns. Metroid Other M also looks amazing. No More Heroes 1 & 2 are brilliant action titles, that never really got the sales they deserved. I think it's worth it for the Virtual Console alone. Many games you used to have to hunt down and pay a ridiculous sum for can now be downloaded in perfect working order for a mostly reasonable price. I can honestly say I'm far more excited about the Wii's holiday line-up than any other system, and I own all 3. My only real dissapointment is the lack of a solid rpg lineup.

Resident Evil 4
Okami
Madworld

Thats funny because I bought all three of those from Amazon at once. It was glorious. I am currently playing Okami. I played it 4 years ago, and sadly I got rid of it. Its such an amazing game.

But dude, Metroid Other M. You gotta get that shit

ssjmichael
08-07-2010, 01:44 AM
I haven't played Metroid in forever so I'll check out the Trilogy first if I can find it. Other M looks promising too. Looks like a good combination of old and new. I was supposed to play Okami on the PS2 but never got around to it so i figure I might as well get it now. Same with RE4 actually. I haven't played Bully yet either (though I did pick up the PS2 disc for that one a month ago) so the scholarship edition is also a consideration.

I think I also need to give Zelda more of a chance. My gf is a huge fan of the series, and she got me to play Phantom Hourglass on the DS, but I kind of quit half-way through. I'm not big on dungeons and stuff like that. Kind of creeps me out for some odd reason, lol. Like I said, I need to give them more of a chance. I do like the look of Twilight Princess (and the upcoming game).

(Not to mention exclusives)

My gf is playing LoZ:PH literally right now. From the sounds of it, its the worst Zelda game ever. Ha, but yah. You should download SMetroid on your Virtual Console, considering Super Metroid takes place RIGHT before Other M.

I played through Okami on my PS2 and still treasure it. my friend got a copy for the wii and i couldnt help but feel dissapointed. it was still a great game but something was missing, and not just because it was another play through the game. either way its your call, but i do have hopes for Okamiden

For 65 bucks, gift it to yuor girlfriend. I personally sold my Wii for a profit 6 months after buying it. Just too much shovelware and the lack of a decent online system that turned me away from keeping it.

Its the damn Wiimote Celestial Brush movement, it sucks! Other than that, the waggle to attack sometimes messes up for me. However, I am loving the Wii version, but yah the PS2 version is definitely better.

The thing is I've seen similar games handle similar motions better, so it was just laziness on Capcom's part. Hopefully Epic Mickey will do it right.

Honestly, the only reason I have the Wii is for rail shooters. It excels at that if you are into that style of game. Ghost Squad and House of the Dead Overkill are some fun, fun games. New super mario bros. is fun, New Punch Out, things like that, those are some good games. But for the most part, I feel the novelty of the wii runs out pretty quickly.

3 simple words....

Monster Hunter Tri.

I was about to dump my Wii before giving that a shot and it turned me around. Also, if you like arcade type shooters check out Sin and Punishment. You can either get the original off the VC or the new one that came out a little over a month ago. Also, for me what really has done it over time is the VC and some of the WiiWare.

One other thing, Mr. Dream my ass. It will always be Mike Tysons Punch Ouyt to me.

Super Mario Kart is my favorite Wii game. You didn't mention anything about racers, but I really love getting online with friends.

Pikmin 3 was also not mentioned. That should be a very good game coming out for the Wii. Since you never had a Gamecube you should check out some of those games as well. Gamecube was one of my favorite systems. It didn't have the most games but it had some very good games.

Definitely Resident Evil 4. Such a good game.

New Super Mario Bros Wii would be a good purchase if you and your gf play games together.

Okami is an excellent game, I can't compare it to the PS2 version since I never played that version but it's one of my favorites on the Wii.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is another good game to play together, it's slightly crazy and silly but fun.

Mario Kart Wii is another game I've had a lot of fun with, again good to play together but also fun as a single player game.

If you're a fan of golf games, Tiger Woods 11 is a good golf game, it uses the motion controls well.

Tetris Party is really good if you like Tetris at all, lots of modes to go along with classic Tetris.

It's not so much much about how much it costs, but rather a question of whether the money would be better spent on something else. Like say towards a 360 purchase, which I would likely use more. This was a completely impulse purchase (which is rare for me), and right after I wondered what games I really wanted/needed to play on the system.

Another concern that I didn't really bring up was the fact that I game on my PS3 through my 22" PC monitor, which has an HDMI input. Right now I don't have any connections for the Wii besides a small 15" LCD TV that I use as a backup to watch the occasional TV show. I also have a Gamebridge adapter that I use on my PC to play PS2 games. It works well, but I'd be concerned about lag with the Wii and visuals aren't the best. I'm planning to upgrade to an actual LCD TV for my room so that should get sorted out by the end of the year.

Anyway, the many suggestions listed in this thread has helped me realize there are a good amount of games I'd like to play on the Wii, so I'm def. going to keep it.

No kidding SuperPhilip, I own both a PS3 and a Wii and I by far love my Wii, I have over 50 games for the Wii and its my most favorite console this generation. Most people who seem to bitch about the Wii either don't own one or are just joining that small elite of dumfucks who have the internet to rant to. Keyword: Most.

If you really dislike the Wii, just sell it and move on. You have to be a fucking tard to keep something you dislike.

I second Zack and Wiki. Probably one of the most underrated Wii games. It may look like a kids game from the cover and graphics, but it isn't. It's an amazing puzzle game, one of the best on the Wii.

Doritos & Yaris have games on the 360. 7-Up(Cool Spot), California Raisins, Dominos (the Noid) and Cheetos all had games in the 8 & 16-bit eras. I'm sure there were probably some last gen as well. Marketing games are nothing new.

It's not so much much about how much it costs, but rather a question of whether the money would be better spent on something else. Like say towards a 360 purchase, which I would likely use more.

I have all 3, and I would say there is too much crossover in games to go the PS360 route. However, with how cheap the 360 Arcade is, it might be worth it. A PSWii or Wii60 combo just makes more sense, IMO.

You pretty much summed up the way it goes.

I myself own all 3 systems and current count of games per system puts Wii ahead of xbox and ps3 having the least games. Its all taste of course but I feel bad for the fools who sign off the true game company (Nintendo) just because they think fps or graphics alone are what games really are about. Its about fun, plain and simple. And when you ignore one of the paths to fun, you only screw yourself, especially at a cheap price.

Can't help people help themselves.

Sell it. It's obvious you want to.

I'm on my third Wii now and I keep waffling back and forth whether I should keep it. I got a Wii hoping it's software lineup would be like a home-console version of the DS' lineup but that really hasn't panned out so far. It's funny because I buy 3-4 DS games a month(plenty of imports) and the Wii hasn't been turned on since Wii Sports Resort dropped (holy crap has it really been a YEAR since I played it?!?!?).

"bitch, bitch, bitch, I hate wii, bitch, bitch, I have a tiny dick, bitch, bitch."

On a serious note, I would recommend Monster hunter tri. If you've got wifi, then definitely get it. It is one of the few games where I've logged over 150 hours on and I'm only level 30 (there's over 200 levels I believe). Also, get Metroid Prime Trilogy, some good games there.

I do admit though that the Wii is an acquired taste. It's not for everyone *cough* fps *cough*, but it's definitely got good games.
