Sega has cancelled the American release of the updated Altered Beast (http://ps2.gamespy.com/playstation-2/altered-beast/562516p1.html).

And you're sad?
What I'm pissed about is that Sega hasn't brought any of it's Simple 2500 series games here yet. Dragon Force is being released in Japan soon, and I would like to think it'd come here.
Also, in 2001, Sega of America's VP of Marketing spoke with IGN about how Sega planned to bring a handful of big Saturn titles to the PSone, some of which he hinted at, such as Shining Force 3 and Panzer Dragoon Saga. I just stumbled on this old article at IGN the other day, and it pissed me off even thinking about it, since this never happened, nor will it ever, or so it seems.

If Sega brings out Panzer Dragoon Saga and doesn't bring it out in the US, heads will roll, blood will flow, and, and, and all sorts of other bad things that no one wants. ie: BRING OUT PANZER DRAGOON SAGA! [sorry for the off topic rant guys, still kicking myself for not buying the game when I had a Saturn and saw the game at Toys R Us for 40 bucks]

I too long for this day.
As for Altered Beast, it was really nostalgia more than anything that made me feel sad. It's just a shame that there isn't room anymore for the games that I was raised on. Out with the old, in with the new I suppose.
Save for Gunstar Heroes and Beyond Oasis. Heads will roll if I don't live to see the rebirth of either of these franchises.

Exactly. There's a couple of different articles about the game being cancelled for the US and they all make a point that Sega is being careful about bringing some of their intellectual properties to the US. Translation: it sucks.
Then again, they released Astro Boy for the PS2.

I believe that was Peter Moore. He now works for Microsoft.

No, it was Charles Bellfield. I don't know where he is now.

I'm still somewhat regretting selling that along with all of my Saturn stuff.
