Can US Wii play import Japanese games?

My wife has a business trip to Japan and was wondering if Japanese Wii games will run on a US Wii. I'd like to see if she can get the Mario 25th anniversary collection, but only if I can use it on my US Wii.

Any help is appreciated.

Not out of the box, no, but doing so is not terribly difficult and can be learned from a Google search, just not discussed here.

Just waits Nintendo of America will release Mario Collection here in the US early Next year for $29.99 - $39.99 price range or It will bundle with the Wii.
