Ok, i finally got my GTA 2-pack in the mail today ($20 deal) and I put the first one in, GTA3, and the sound on it is HORRIBLE....almost makes it unplayable to me. I have a pretty darn good surround sound system set-up. I turn the MUSIC SFX all the way up, and I still can't hear it barely....I turned the normal SFX to half way and the game sounds are still loud, but the dialog is quiet.

Anyone else have issues with GTA and 5.1/6.1 setup?

Thanks

I didn't have any problems with the sound with my 5.1 surround setup.

The music sound for custom tracks is lower than for the built in stations. Is that your problem?

Sheesh....
Some people access these threads from the main page...Give him a break if he didn't notice.

Basically, it seems that all the music is lower than the sound effects. It's like the over did it with the 5.1 sound implemented. Maybe it's just GTA3, did not try Vice City yet. I know the custom was REALLY low.

It just seems the normal SFX (like cars, horns, guns shots, tires squeeling) is REALLY loud, even when turned down. However, then the dialog is low. I tried playing around with settings for my receiver, but it didn't really help. I've never had any other problems with any other games....oh well, not that big of a deal.

Just annoyed me and I doubt I will go back and play them that much....

I never noticed this problem with my 5.1 setup. I have tweeked my settings to get the sound how I would like. I remember the defaults were not correct. I like the music so I can hear it not jamming loud while playing though.

Yeah I was able to set the music and sfx levels via the game's own settings to get it to the level I wanted without a problem.

My only problem was the custom tracks being lower than the built in stations, so if I had the music level set for custom tracks, the built in stations would be too loud, and if I had it set for the built in stations my custom tracks would be too soft.

Sounds like a weird problem, unfortunately. Can't imagine it could be a problem with your particular copy, must be something with the Xbox, surround setup, or the way it's connected or something.

Ok thanks....I'll play around with the settings more. I'll try a few different modes on my reciever. I have a top-o-the-line receiver and speakers...not some HTiB setup.

Oh well....

I'll try VC also.

Halo 2 comes out soon anyways.

Heh, I have a HTiB setup and it worked fine. (It's a pretty nice HTiB setup, though.)

So you have it hooked via the optical audio output, right?

I'd try hooking directly to the TV via the standard audio cables and see if you still have the same problems. Then try using the standard audio cables to your receiver and see if you still have the same problems, etc.

Do you have your center channel volume set low via your receiver (where the dialog and maybe most of the music is pumped from) relative to the other 4 speakers? I'd imagine you'd notice problems with everything if that were the case so I kind of doubt that'd be it.

You could maybe try setting the center channel higher than the other 4 speakers for GTA3, but to me that would be too much of a pain.

I have the optical running from my XBOX to my receiver. I can control the distance and volume of all my speakers through my receiver. I can switch from 2-speaker mode to my 6.1 mode.

The 2-speaker mode just sucks.....

My center channel is a bit higher than my surround speakers....I have it nicely calibrated for my Home Theatre.

All my other games sound fine....oh well. Just seems like the music is TOO low. Even THEIR stations.
