Nintendo Files Claim On 'It's On Like Donkey Kong'

In a move that the company says honors the impending launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns, Nintendo has filed a trademark request for the phrase "It's on like Donkey Kong." No, this is not an Onion article, either.

Nintendo calls it "an old, popular Nintendo phrase that has a number of possible interpretations depending on how it's used."

And if they're trademarking the phrase, they sure better make good use of it and start using it in press releases and such.

The difference there is that he was using it for a long time. This seems out of the blue.

On the other hand Donkey Kong is their property, and while they can't keep those words out of peoples mouths they seem to have a right to it, don't they? I mean more than anyone would any other random catchphrase.

I'm looking forward to DK Returns. I won't pick it up right away, but a proper DK sidescroller is just what Nintendo has been missing.
