Rockband sales have been decreasing for quite awhile now so this announcement that they are being sold won't affect MadCatz and other companies doing peripherals more than they've already been affected by the low sales of the past year or two.

Sony and MS aren't going to buy Harmonix at least not for the RB brand. RB doesn't any mindshare with the mass market. The GH brand does.

They could buy them for the talent for future games. But the risk there is the talent doesn't stay for long.

Kinect Adventures and Kinect are analogous to the typical Wii fps- mostly generic, sloppy and junky.

Sold mine after a day. Kinect is part Wii shovelware 2.0. Part Vista release. Part deja vu. And part cool for a day tech.

Ship told the Kinect story pretty accurately.

That is exactly what I got. So far, I really like it. Drives well with good gas milage and unlike my old car an ipod jack.

To answer the last e-mail question, my 3-year old toddler loves Kinect Adventures and also Kinectimals. Some of the concepts in Kinectimals are too advanced for her though. Be prepared to step in frequently to handle the menu options.

In my opinion, three is the beginning age of being able to grasp the concepts. Two is too young. I'd recommend five is the ideal age for understanding these games.

Funny bug. If an adult and a toddler play, the Kinect sometimes gets confused and thinks the smaller player is kneeling.

Cheapy - Last month I bought a 55" LED TV to replace my two year old 40" LCD. Both Samsung, both 120HZ, both 1080P. The 40" had the most amazing picture I've ever seen. Therefore...

I was expecting at LEAST the same quality picture in the 55", but much like yourself - it was slightly disappointing. The larger screen caused the picture to not look as nice. So if anything, misery loves company. Feel comfort knowing you are not alone.

But you are right...bigger is BETTER. And the lower quality picture mostly applies to broadcast TV, as games and BluRay still look incredible.

I'm excited for 1080P tv broadcasts (over cable at least). Not sure if it will ever happen though. I would get FIOS if they had it in my area. Till then, I'll suffer with a slightly lower quality - but much bigger - picture.



Edit: OH, and as for peeing in the shower (again) - its disgusting that you're standing in your own piss. Who gives a shit if it saves water???? Do you brush your teeth in the toilet just so you don't use water in the sink???? Come on guys...

Cheapy, I shopped around the last couple months and the price difference between 3D and non-3D high-end HDTVs is not much different here in the US either.

$2k - 2.5k is about what you'd expect to pay for a high-end LG, Samsung or Sony LED HDTV. I already decided on Sony and all of their top models are 3D-ready. Sony and Samsung have been offering bundles on their TVs which usually include a 3D Blu-ray player/PS3 and a 3D starter kit (2 pairs of glasses, transmitter and 3D movies).

I got a 55" HDTV, PS3 and 3D starter kit + 3 movies for $2400. I ended up selling the PS3 and two movies for $450. Most 3D movies only come with TV purchases so they sell quite well on eBay.

2. Wombat- congratz on the Hyundai! A thing to consider about the free XM trial is to never activate it! I never got around to calling Sirius to activate my free trial so I just got the 15 or so stations that were on 'demo' mode for the dealerships. I guess XM starts the 3 month counter once you call them in, but if you never call in, they just assume the car is not sold yet. I got an entire year out of the dealer demo XM! Sure it's only 15 stations, but it had 15 great stations, including Playboy Radio for all my A2M needs!

Eventually they caught on or something and the demo stopped working.. that's when I called in and got my free 3 months of full XM. So if you didn't activate it that's a protip!

Also congratz on the new toilet and your faster bowel movements. That's a good feeling.

If you keep your toilet extremely clean, there's no problem with brushing your teeth with toilet water. But it'd be a big waste since you'd have to flush that stuff. Unless you brush your teeth before a bowel movement.

I don't see how threatening to ban steam games is stupid, the point is not "inconvenience customers" but simply to discourage developers to use steam for DRM.(well most PC users like steam we don't like steam being used in games that don't benefit from it(civ 5,fallout new vegas ect...)). Retail sales still make up a majority of PC sales and I don't think a developer wants the potential loss of sales shelf space. While I doubt those retailers have enough sales to have considerable pull, they are risking little in a threat and in add in addition to what ever pressure there threat does put on the developer it could serve as a rallying call to other retailers if they are of the same opinion.

Also that whole graphics are the most important part of an FPS statement is stupid. If you look at the most successful FPS's the have never been about the graphics, infact FPS's that featured their graphics tend not to do well. Also Since you guys don't even play PC games harping on graphics is rather hypocritical.

It is kind of weird how Wii graphics put them off so much, but the low frame rates and sub-HD nature of many PS360 games doesn't seem to concern them.

Blacks Ops only suffers from one of those issues on the 360, but stretching its 1040x608 resolution across a 60 inch screen is far from ideal.

Anyway about Harmonix...

I was talking about this topic in the Rock Band forum and mentioned that one of Rock Band's problems is their marketing. All they do is bring up the keyboard in their TV spots and even then it's a small bit at the end. The ad itself just seems to be more of an announcement for a 3rd game; it doesn't show any game play and really only alludes to the fact that Bohemian Rhapsody is more than likely in the game (because it's the song being sung in the commercial).

I feel like more of their market dollars need to go towards showing that there is a keyboard, vocal harmonies, that they offer up new DLC every week and that it is easy to access, and that all in all it is the BETTER game. Instead though people just see it as another music game that isn't Guitar Hero which the brand that has a foothold on the minds of the casual.

I feel like the lone ad they run is total garbage as far as advertising goes. They put so much into the game and all they show off in the commercial is the fact that a new game is out. That kind of marketing I think only appeal to current fans; they need to put some shit in the commercial that makes people say, "Man Guitar Hero is cool* and all, but this Rock Band 3 looks tight as shit!"

As far as them losing money, what did Harmonix make in the past years while just putting out DLC and smaller releases? Maybe overtime they'll recoup their losses with the DLC after losing money putting out a new title? I don't know.

*Guitar Hero is actually total garbage in my eyes. Total. Garbage.

Ship was a bit hard on the Kinect. As he pointed out, set-up is easy, you don't need the controller for the menus IF you are in the Kinect menus. Motion control and voice only work for the Kinect dashboard, expecting it to work on the rest of the dash is silly.

Changing players on the fly works extremely well, stand in front of the camera, wait to be scanned, new player acknowledged. The Wii and Move do not have this ability, right? Makes it great for parties.

Wombat I don't think I've heard you mention the new Avengers cartoon on the cagcast yet. Have you checked it out? It's been surprisingly good imo. They're really setting up for a lot of the classic Avengers storylines.

I don't get the whole "standing in your own pee" complaint of pissing in the shower. Doesn't everyone who pees in the shower aim for the drain?

Am I the only one who is entirely sick of the bathroom talk that seems to control this podcast? I've had to fast forward a lot recently. I don't find it particularly entertaining and it's not part of a video game podcast...

I have a question. When you all offer your opinions on things like games and consoles, and they are less than flattering, do you hear any feed back from the developers or anyone else associated with these products. For instance, does Microsoft contact you guys after Shipwreck says kinect isn't good, to find out ways to improve it, or just for general feedback?
