Well I did some research on that Apex 27" TV and there's a tossup between 3 models. It's anyone's guess as to which model it is. You guys can take a look and guess which one we're gonna get.

I went by my local BB today to scout what might be the Apex 27" model in question, only to find the only Apex unit they had was a 32" unit. An inventory check showed the same for several other stores in the district. It's likely they be delivering the stock for the BF sale almost immediately beforehand and thus eliminate the prospect of buying early and getting price protection.

it will work with a xbox. i highly recommend a seagate or maxtor. Western Digital drives are not that good and they are kind of load. I got a maxtor 160 at frys for 59 without a rebate and it runs well in a xbox system.

Yeah. Notice the model AT2708 and the AT2708S, the s means it's got stereo. Look at the manual in PDF format from their page. It shows a diagram of what the front panel has, only two rca jacks, one audio one video. The only one that specifically says stereo is the AT2708S.

As far as the guy who asked how early... Best Buy, assuming they open at 6 will have a huge line by 5. If they open at 7 they will have a line by 5:30.

Best Buy is the last place... ok second to last after Walmart... you want to be on black friday. CompUSA and the Office Stores are the best from my 5 years of Black Friday shopping experience.

I think I'm going to try to pick up two of those 5200 FX's. Right now i'm Running a Geforce 2 MX and a Geforce 3 first Gen. Should be a decent intermediary upgrade before i go 6800 GT or 6600.

Um, the FX5200 is worse than a Geforce 3 (especially if the FX5200 in their sale is the 64-bit version...which I'm worried it might be). Don't waste your money, just spend the extra cash on the 6800 at that sale and "graduate" your Geforce 3 to your GF2MX machine.

Well, four years ago is quite a long time. I thought that as well but the new WDs aren't bad. I've also had a WD break down on me but those were the ill-fated Caviar series which had a bad history of breaking down as soon as you opened the box. The only problem which is still persists is that WDs tend to heat a LOT faster than Maxtors but for that particular pricepoint, 200GB can't be beat. Also, since you've had those 3 hds for about 5 weeks or so, couldn't you have returned them for an exchange or at the very least a refund?

Well I bought them during my college years when I was down in florida.. The nearest Compusa/Best Buy was like 45m-1hr by train since I didn't have a car. Silly me bought a lot of things "Online" cheaper. I didn't by them from WD directly, just some other company. Anyways I did call the company that sold it to me and they weren't very helpful and decided to change there policy about hard drives returns. They weren't gonna give me a new hard drive. Then I called WD directly and gave them the serial numbers of the drive. They said that my drives were sold to over seas, then resold to someone in the US for a cheap price and that they don't deal with those types of drives! The guy over the phone said he will give me 30 dollars credit for each of them (I paid like 100) towards the purchase of a new drive and I was like screw that. I was very screwed over that month. I remembered checking WD message boards and seeing a boat load of complains from people having the same problems, and what was WD response? NOTHING. From then on I decided never to touch WD again. Waste of time and money. Lost tons of work because of them and there cheap hard drives.
If it was 1 hard drive I would have brushed it off, but 3 dying within a month? That was one class action lawsuit that I should have been part of.






based on my experiance with Western Digital, I lost 3 hard drives 4 years ago.. All three died 1 week after another just amonth after i bought them. Customer Service was a joke! Never in my right mind will i ever buy a WD drive no matter how cheap it gets. MAxtor all the way!

Well, four years ago is quite a long time. I thought that as well but the new WDs aren't bad. I've also had a WD break down on me but those were the ill-fated Caviar series which had a bad history of breaking down as soon as you opened the box. The only problem which is still persists is that WDs tend to heat a LOT faster than Maxtors but for that particular pricepoint, 200GB can't be beat. Also, since you've had those 3 hds for about 5 weeks or so, couldn't you have returned them for an exchange or at the very least a refund?

First, do you think it's a good idea to buy in advance and then price match. I heard that some stores won't honor their price match policy for BF ads in their own store to prevent this. I'd like to go get Chapelle's Show at BB now and then PM on Friday.

I tried to do that yesterday with the 27 inch Advent HDTV at Best Buy. They said no they would not price match, that the deals are only good for those 6 hours on Black Friday.

Theoretically I could buy it, then drive down on Friday and return it, and rebuy it AGAIN, but that would be a lot of hassle.

Most Besy Buy deals are after rebates, I got a PC last year that cost me $300 after rebates, but I had to pony up an initial $700+ for it. On the bright side they are pretty fast with rebates, abotu 4 to 6 weeks.

Also does anyone know how big a screen that Dynex DVD has? Nevermind, My guess is the 5" they have regularly $150. Anyone out there have a 5" how is it?

While I don't have the ads in front of me, I'd guess they're free after rebates. That's how deals like those usually work.

Yeah. Notice the model AT2708 and the AT2708S, the s means it's got stereo. Look at the manual in PDF format from their page. It shows a diagram of what the front panel has, only two rca jacks, one audio one video. The only one that specifically says stereo is the AT2708S.

Scans of the Best Buy ad have been posted, and the Apex TV just isn't there. I'm not sure if the deal never existed or if they changed their minds, but the ad doesn't mention it. There's a 20" TV for $69 and a 23" for $120 (and at Circuit City there's a 27" for $128), but those are the closest to the supposed Apex deal.

I don't know if we (living in Alaska) got screwed by Office Max but they marked up a lot of things on their BF ad, most notably the 200gig hard drive. I have the ad in front of me and it says $69.99 after rebates.

The leather chair for $19.99? Nope...$29.99
The 160gig external hard drive for $89.99? No...$99.99
2 shelf bookcase for $9.99? It's at $19.99

There are a few items that stayed at the price. Sucks though.

No. You need to get a better video card. The 9600XT should be able to run it if you don't have anything open.

I think I'm going to try to pick up two of those 5200 FX's. Right now i'm Running a Geforce 2 MX and a Geforce 3 first Gen. Should be a decent intermediary upgrade before i go 6800 GT or 6600.

Um, the FX5200 is worse than a Geforce 3 (especially if the FX5200 in their sale is the 64-bit version...which I'm worried it might be). Don't waste your money, just spend the extra cash on the 6800 at that sale and "graduate" your Geforce 3 to your GF2MX machine.

After looking at the Benchmarks and my Bank account I decided to just go with the 6800. Just got it havn't put it in yet.

The Apex 27" TV is a definite no-show in Greenville or Anderson S.C. I knew something was up when it wasn't in our ad. Quite a bummer since that was the only thing I wanted from them. Well, I did get a Retrocon.

Well, you can play it...
But, that's some pretty crappy textures.
You might be running it flawless, but the graphics are at about 20% power or something of that sort. I'm guessing it runs smooth but the graphics are just really dumbed down.

...Forget the Voodoo 2, let's try and run it on the Amiga! Whooo! :P
