Doesn't look like there have been substantive talks or anything, but this could mean the end of Game Crazy stores and less choices for B&M game rentals.

That would suck ass if it happened. It would be a monopoly for B&M movie and game rentyals. Some one would have to block it.

Why do i think if this happens the game crazys will become gamerushes

OR,

It could mean:

1) All of us who are getting the shaft because we don't have a Gamerush in our area will be blessed with the joys of their ridiculous deals

2) If they DO eliminate Game Crazies, a brief period of CAG heaven as they clear out all of their stock.

3) Or, somebody will finally get their commupance for that $20 MVP card that gets you in on the same deals Gamestop and EB offer to the public for free. (Incidentally, do you really think they wouldn't use those "specials" to drive volume if there wasn't an MVP program? Yeah, right.

4) I might finally, at the very least, stop griping about GC's MVP program.

Hmmm I don't like it. It would be too much of a monopoly of the rental market by big conglomerates. I like the way it is and prefer Hollywood Video when it comes to renting stuff. But on the other hand, we mihgt all be given a Gamerush that have been so sorely missing them. Still I think they should be separate.

What would Blockbuster do with all that extra floor space? The Hollywood's near my house are 4 times the size of the blockbusters, if blockbuster bought that up they might actually have a store with a selection

I wish that whole situation would reverse. I like Hollywood Video a LOT more than Blockbuster.

I prefer Hollywood Video over Blockbuster too, they are always sending me 99 cent movie rental coupons.

Less competition usaully means the consumer gets the shaft, even if there are short term benefits. I usually go to BB b/c it is more convenient, but it is nice to know that Hollywood is around to keep them in check.

I like goin to Hollywood more to rent (5 days) for new movies than renting one for only 2 days which is ridicously short.

Greedy bastards. They already bought Rhino Video Games, a pretty good regional chain and shaq fued that up. Down with monopolies. Although I would like some store fixtures for my store though.

Personally I think 700 mil is a slap in the face. If I were HV I would piss on the proposal and hand it back to them. Thats ~2000 stores + all thier gamecrazys. Shaq fu that, theres more brand power and customer service in one of those stores than there is in a region of BBs. SAVE HOLLYWOOD VIDEO!!!

I agree that would bite the big one. But it also shows the concern BB feels.

Not a big surprise. It's consolidation in a business that's experiencing a major contraction. The primary business, video rentals, is fading badly as alternatives increase and retailers like Best Buy push hard on making DVd purchases a better value than rentals.

Now if they put a Starbucks and a 7-11 in each location...

Well... never saw this coming... now if you told me Gamestop was buying all the EB's or vice versa, then I might be more on the WTF, save my store type of deal...

I wish Blockbuster would buy out Movie Gallery. That's all I have in my area and they are the worst ($4.99 for a 2 night game rental, and used games like Triple Play 2002 for $17, or Gran Turismo 3 for $35!!!)

2) If they DO eliminate Game Crazies, a brief period of CAG heaven as they clear out all of their stock.

Uhhh...wouldn't they just change the signs and keep all their current stock? :? Perhaps maybe just some price changes.
