Wanted: The following Capcom fighting games (Playstation)

Darkstalkers
Street Fighter Alpha


Also, it's a long shot, but...
I am also seeking the Namco Arcade Playstation joystick. I would love for it to have the box, etc, but it isn't necessary. This doesn't appear on Ebay very often. I have been playing a lot of fighters on the PS2 lately. For some reason, there are very few currently produced joysticks, and the ones that do exist suck. I wish Sony would produce one and blow these others out of the water.

I am mainly offering Paypal/cash/etc, but feel free to check my have/want list. I don't have much to offer since I only buy games that I plan on keeping. :)

Wow, I remember the first time I played Darkstalkers and SFA was on the Saturn. Damn, those controllers were awful.

well, i've got an extra street fighter collection (the first one), if you're interested in that. but if you have any sort of REAL capcom desire, you should be looking for dreamcast shit instead.

I believe he was referring to the American model. I hope he was, as the JP Saturn pad is oft regarded as the best 2D fighting controller.

there were two that came to america... the first model was shit. the second model was the same shape as the japanese one. the new sf controllers from nubytech feel like that one.

and i agree... the best 2d fighter controller ever. unless you count joysticks.

Yeah, I refused to buy a Saturn until they started bundling the JP pad. The first game I bought was SFA2.

Yes, I was talking about the US model. I had always heard that the Japanese one was better, but I never got to try it.

About the Dreamcast... my friend had one and around 50 games (all warezed, of course). One night we sat down and actually played each one for at least a few minutes. The only game that I found even remotely fun was Soul Caliber. That pretty much turned me off to Dreamcast forever.

I can't quite play Dreamcast games on my PS One + LCD combo. ;)

Actually, I have yet to crack open my PS One combo. I bought it a couple months ago and it is sitting here next to me still sealed. I bought it thinking that I would take it to college with me and play it in between classes, but I have been doing homework and sleeping instead. :)

Anyway... bumpage and I bought Darkstalkers yesterday.

Hmm, DC the best for Capcom? Besides MVC2 and CVS2, it doesn't offer any great conversions of fighters that are still alive. CVS2 is passable on the PS2 (EO being almost a different game); PS2 version's speed is even more accurate to the arcade's but it just looks and sounds nastier. MVC2...yeah, it demands a DC or PCB. Only $15 for the system. $20 or $0 for the game depending on how honest you are.

MVC2: excellent since it's Naomi (same with CVS and CVS2)

Jojo: excellent compilation of both CPSIII games, but nobody plays them

SFIII W-Impact: excellent CPSIII conversions, but nobody plays them after 3S came out

SFIII 3S: slightly different move mechanics, altered parrying timing, smaller sprites; spring for SF:AE on the PS2 instead if you want arcade accuracy

SFA3: messed up thanks to it being based on the Naomi Upper revision of the game that nobody played with smaller sprites and changed mechanics; spring for SFZ3 on the somewhat altered Saturn version instead (if you can find it for cheap) for a somewhat more faithful conversion to the A3 being played in tourneys

Anyway, you'll want SFA for the Saturn for a slightly better conversion. XM:COTA and MSH ports weren't good either way but the Saturn version has more fluid play and less animation loss.

Mas or Hori sticks are the best you can get depending on whether you want US or JP style respectively. About ~$90; not bad if you're serious. A PS2 to Saturn converter is only about $10 as well.

JP Saturn pads...are excellent when you get used to their looseness, though they aren't much better than the also-excellent Genesis 6-button controllers. Nuby pads are OK; too bulky for how light they are though and moving Start and Select near the buttons to put a picture in the center was just dumb considering fighting games INVENTED Start+Select resetting. PS pad = mediocre for fighters (not nearly as bad as DC's crap pad though, or any of Nintendo's recent controllers). When will companies realize a 360 d-pad is far better than the cross-shaped ones Nintendo puts out or the 4-directional-buttons Sony used. Of course, joysticks are a must if you ever plan to play fighters for real.

I never got into the crossover games. Honestly, it was a fluke that I even enjoy the few Capcom fighters that I do. I was one of those kids that preferred Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat over the bland Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo that everyone else was playing.

One day after playing the new favorite fighting game (Tekken 2), I played a few rounds of SFA and Darkstalkers on my friend's Saturn. Unlike the previous Capcom games, I was able to feel some familiarity with acknowledged combos (unlike the SF2 series). It was actually fun! However, the X-Men vs. Street Fighter game in our arcade still collected while everyone was busy playing MK3 and Tekken 2/3.

For a long time I rarely played any Capcom games until the CPS2 system was fully emulated in MAME. Suddenly I found myself playing SFA every day. Every one of the CPS2 fighters are fully emulated, so if I only wanted to play them, I would just load up MAME. However, the listed Capcom games I want have a sentimental value, so I want to finally snag the playstation versions for my collection.

Some SNK fans may cringe at this thought, but I didn't enjoy any of the SNK fighting games at all. I gave Samurai Showdown a serious chance, and it had a temporary popularity at my arcade, but I just didn't get into it.

For arcade sticks, look for Hori sticks... they are still produced... the Namco stick is made by Hori as well.
