An 11-year-old girl in West Covina, Calif., was suspended from her school from doing "dangerous" cartwheels and hand stands during lunch time, according to a Local 6 News report.
Deirdre Faegre, who is a Student of the Month at San Jose-Edison Academy in West Covina was dismissed from the school this week after school authorities warned her for the last time to stop doing gymnastic stunts during lunchtime.
Administrators at the school said they were concerned about safety of their students.
"I thought they were absolutely weird, because I see other kids playing baseball and soccer and I think that's more dangerous than gymnastics," Faegre said.
Deirdre's parents are giving the school's actions a failing grade. The family says they'll continue to stand by their daughter.
"I don't think they care about the children at all," father Leland Faegre said. "What sort of a parent or administrator would ever enforce a rule that would proscribe a child from using her arms and her legs? We have got to fix this mess because we have to let children be children."
Her parents said they will home school Deirdre until they find a more "reasonable" school.
Calls to school administrators went unanswered.
What in the FUCK has society become? A paranoid fucking terror afraid nation that puts a BAN on fucking CARTWHEELS? What's next? Gonna make the women wear viels? How about we not let them have eye contact.. no.. I got it! Next kid that brings animal crackers to school gets arrested for animal abuse!
This is fucking depressing.

It is sad. But I'm sure if she got hurt her parents would be there with their lawyers with some BS lawsuit.

In other kid related news, did anyone see the news clip about the 6 year old that got tased by the police? The whole situation was rather messed up, although I do think the police did the right thing in tasing the kid.

Note: DURING LUNCH. Not DURING RECESS. If she had done it multiple times, she probably shouldn't have been suspended, but at the very least given some small form of punishment.

Okay.. you see, she's 11. When I was 11, we ate outside, swung, did whatever the hell we wanted during lunch. If we ate, we ate. If we didn't, we played kickball. Whatever. I'm pretty sure this happened outside.
Hell, in my senior year in high school, my friend and I would leave campus and go get something to eat. The teacher knew and actually asked us to bring her back something from Subway a few times.

Wow, I feel bad for that kid. He must have some real psychological problems at such a young age to hurt himself like that.

Pretty crazy, but it's got nothing to do with a "terror afraid nation" and everything to do with being lawsuit afraid. And yes, the girl should've listened to her teachers or whoever the first time (then again no kid ever really does that I suppose).

I know. But I was pointing out that since 9/11, this country's become paranoid. It's sad.

I don't care what the teacher said, or how many times the kid did a cartwheel. That is one dumb ass reason to be suspended from school. Endangering other students? What a bunch of bullshit.

Anyone that does cartwheels or gymastics in general should be suspended.

I think the school was right. If the kid was cartwheeling and broke something the headline would read "School sued by cartwheeling students father" There was obviously a reason why they asked her to stop more than once. I'm sure someone thought she was posing a danger to herself or others.
Picture this:
The kid is a good gymnist and does her thing in the school yard..... fine.... she's happy and her self esteem is boosted by all her little friends that gather around to admire her amazing agility. Then one of her little friends whom let's say..... never did a cartwheel in her life decides she's gonna try to do one. She gets a running start goes for the flip, comes down awkwardly, landing on her head snapping her neck and dying instantly. It could happen. Children at that age are sometimes very competitive I actually commend the teachers and the school for thinking outside the box on this one.

thats just stupid
they should have completely kicked her out of school, not just a suspension...
should could have seriously injured a student...shit, she may have even been a terrorist.....they better get rid of her now before she blows up the school

damn, thats a pretty stupid reason to suspend a kid. Me and another kid broke a desk one time before a football game and all we had to do was pay for it! We didnt even get suspension mentioned!

I was in middle school at age eleven, fuck I was in seventh grade. We certainly couldn't fool around like this girl because the fucking vice principal monitored the lunches. I could see if this happened to a younger girl, but she is ELEVEN. She must have a severe fucking case of ADD to be doing that shit during lunchtime at her age. And not one of those million misdiagnosed cases of ADD either.

Look, you're right that she was disobeying the rules. But that's an excuse. She's 11. Her suspesion is a failure by the school. Having her suspended helps no one.
Also, it is an innane argument to say that she might get hurt or hurt others therefpore she should be suspended. There is no garuntee she won't twist an ankle or even break an arm. But if she actually killed someone that would be a freak accident. It's probably more likely she'll die in the car in an accident. Her getting injured is no more likely than in any pther athletic activity for her age. As her parents pointed out, she could get injured by playing basketball or frisbee. At least she's getting exercise.
It may be inappropriate for her to be performing cartwheels at lunch. But for an eleven year old, that's a lack of discipline, which must be taught by the school as much as her family. By suspending her the school fails completely on all levels by admitting it cannot impose proper discipline. It can be interpreted in no other way than an absolute failure by the school over a simple issue.

I think suspension is too harsh, even though the authorities told her multiple times not to do cartwhells damnit!

Now that I think about it a little more suspension was the poor choice on the school's part. Detention or a parent teacher conference should have been the first course of action. I retract my earlier commendation to the school and teachers. It was me who needed to think a little more outside the box.

Gotta say he's right - it's damned if you do, damned if you don't for the school.
Did y'all also hear that many networks didn't show "Saving Private Ryan" on VETERAN'S DAY because they were afraid that the violence and swears would get them a fine from the FCC.
I'd like to thank my overprotective power-grabbing government, idiotic juries, and every ambulence-chasing lawyer in this nation for grotesquely exaggerating the legal concept of accountability.

What next? Kids can't walk in the hall because they will trip and fall and take someone down with them? I know, everyone gets a suspension for walking with your shoes untied!
We wouldn't haven't to worry about this suing crap if we had some better judges. Oh, we're sorry your kid is an idiot. here's a few million to make up for it.

I hate kids. Well, not hate, but... "dislike".
I suppose suspension was a bit rash by the school board, but if she was told to stop, she should have obeyed.

Maybe after teachers repeatedly tell you not to do something, YOU SHOULDN'T DO IT.
No sympathy for this girl.
