OK I deleted the last question here's a new one, is it a bad idea to just play 0 and 1 then look up the stories for 3, 4 before playing 4?

RE 0, 1, 2 , 3, CVX

the REmake is the best one IMO, and the one you should start out with

I'm pretty sure it's on the site too, there's a thread somewhere about it, I'll look.

Problem is...going in that order, which you should, will be a little disconcerting when playing through the beautiful graphics of RE0, and the RE1 Remake, to the direct port of RE2 and 3. The cheap bastiches at Capcom didn't bother with revamping 2 and 3, so those games are still using glorius 1998 PS1 graphics.

Thanks! I did a search for "Resident Evil" on their site and got nothing.

I'm just getting ready for RE4

And they made sure to spike interest in the ports by short shipping the three of them; now they are selling for above msrp on places like ebay.

...keep your dreamcast happy and use those versions instead.

Resident Evil 2 is the most fun to play, I would start with RE 2 and RE 3 Nemesis, and then play the others for backstory... This was the beauty of 0 and the REmake don't spoil you.

I agree, RE2 is my favorite and im my opinion timeless. I wouldn't miss out on it. Resident Evil games are pretty short, so if you have the dough, I'd suggest getting all of them. It would take you 30-50 (depending on skill) hours to complete the whole series so it wouldn't take you long if you did. If not, search the web for Weskers Report 1 & 2, that pretty much sums up the whole series (1 2 and 3) in a few pages of text. The order of the games is Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Code Veronica.

If you have a PS2 or a PS1, just get 2 3 (PS1) and Code Veronica (PS2) which is roughly 30 bucks; And pick up RE 1 (remake) and REzero for game cube (roughly 40 bucks). It's not worth getting the whole series on the GameCube since the only one that was redone was RE1 and the rest (excluding REzero which is a prequel and just as great looking as the remake to RE1) are pretty much direct ports from the PS1/DreamCast, 30 a piece for direct ports is a bit steap for me considering I can get the originals for much cheaper. Just a suggestion if your serious about RE.

Play REmake before Zero. It makes the story unfold better and you can adapt to the controls better since Zero is just REmakes controls plus the stuff for the second character.

RE Zero gets pretty boring right halfway through the 2nd area. To me the story just died there. I played through the Remake at least a dozen times and I still consider it to be one of the best titles ever made.

anytime any player plays through a game more than once gets major props from me; and i consider you an expert.

to get a better score
to get a better time
to get a higher completion percentage
to get alternate endings
to unlock extra goodies

so you can share those stories with those of us who have only played it once. mad props to you, thank you.

Well thanks. I can answer questions about the game for anyone with questions.

I'm still stuck on Zero where the giant Centipede thing attacks. I cannot beat that mofo for some reason.

Bump since RE 4 came out and some of us newbies have the same question.

The original question was "What is the best order to play the RE games in"

Even with it's dated graphics 2 is a great RE game, it was my favorite in the lot (until RE4 got played). The thing about RE games is that there short, 8-10 hours tops (that's if you play with one character of course). So playing through each installment isn't really hard to do. I'd suggest playing REzero RE-make (1) and RE2, Skip 3 (read the plot summary) and head into code veronica. Or if you'd like read weskers report 1 & 2 which pretty much explains what happens from 1-3. Is it worth playing each game? I'm a Resident Evil fan since the get-go so of course I'm going to say yes. If you don't feel like it, like I wrote play 0,1,2 and Code Veronica, that should do you fine if you don't have the consitution to play each RE game.
