I was watching the local news earlier and they did a product review on some various holiday products. Apparently the news crew did a test on some pills that you take before some heavy drinking to avoid hangovers the next morning. Turns out the pills worked, they're called Chasers or something like that; anybody know if it actually works or tried it?

I always drink a lot of water and try not to pass out right away, that usually helps me. I have heard of those on the radio though, surprised they actually work.

You could drink less?
Blasphemer!
Hangovers are caused by dehydration. While out, drink one water per beer/shot and you will be fine. If you forget/are at kegger, just drink a ton of water when you get home.
My russian friend drinks a glass of whole milk before goin out. I'll usually take some tums.
Mind you I don't do it much anymore though.

Yes well when you're drunk remembering to drink all that water is a bit difficult, it also sucks since you'll need to pee every 10 minutes which happens to suck when you are drunk. Anyhow I simply drink less than I use to and hangovers have dissappeared.

Supposely the pills contain an substance that absorbs poison. So that maybe the reason it supposely works so well. I remember my first hangover, felt like i was going to die the day after prom. Now they just come and go.

Ive heard Pedialyte's (the stuff they give little kids) the best for hangovers but getting it would require planning which i tend not to do

With Chasers, you have to keep retaking them, after so much time, or so many drinks. At $7 for 10 pills, that can cut into your beer money.

They probably only work because you take water with them! Thats all you need, water.

The one rule to remember: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER TAKE FREAKIN TYLENOL or any Tylenol or Acitominiphen containing tablet BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER DRINKING. Avoid it like the plague...seriously......the smart move is to not even keep the crap in your house if you don't have to.
Acitominaphen. (which is Tylenol) is metabolized by the liver using the same Enzyme (I think, I'm a gamer..not a scientist!) that is used to process Alcohol. Since Alcohol is easier to metabolize than Tylenol, and since your liver can only make so much of this enzyme in a given day, there's only so much to go around.....the booze in your system while you're hitting on that 200lb chick wearing low-rider jeans...is using up that enzyme.
You throw back a couple of tylenol.......even 2 extra strength, thats 1000mg of tylenol...or 1 gram. You have now taken 1/4 of the daily recommended level for that drug. Now lets face it...when yer wasted you don't take 2, you take 4.......now you're halfway to the max daily allotment. AN dthat doesn't take into account the fact that you've been drinking, and burning up all that prescious liver enzyme.
What happens if you really overdo it and burn up all that enzyme, with Tylenol still in your system? Simple...you die.
It can take days or weeks, but generally without an immediate liver transplant, you die...painfully....as your liver basically dies cell by cell.
The moral of the story: Buy Advil.
you can pop those suckers like skittles till the cows come home, you'll probly kill off some other perfectly good organ in yoru body, BUT you wont throw yourself into immediate liver toxcisity.

With my experience I seem to have a higher chance of getting a hang over when i mix liquor and beer. I never heard that drinking alot of water would help, i should try it.

The chaser pills are just carbon pills. Basically charcoal which is what you would get if you swallowed poison to absorb some of it.
The best source (and cheapest!) would be just eatting a piece of burnt toast or somesuch.

Pedialite (or Gatorade) and some dry toast. Works everytime!!!

You know, chasers were created by the KGB to keep their agents sharp while drinking. That way they'd suffer less of a hangover and their judgement would be less impaired in case they were drinking while undercover or on assignment. They were a state secret until the fall of the societ union.

here is an essay they printed (and they say this is 100% real):

Admiral, you are thinking of the RU21 pills. I don't think they are availble yet.
Bottom line, Chaser pills DO NOT WORK. Do not waste your money. Just eat bread before you go to sleep.

Drinking water definitely helps. Also eating a piece of bread is good too.
Hangovers seem to get worse as you get older. Your body has less regenerative powers. I used to be able to drink constantly and not be too bad off. Now two nights in a row makes for suffering no matter how much water I drink. Age...it's a motherfucker.

I Think because it either A) soaks up the alcohol so it's released more slowly into the system than all at once. Or it's B) Helps the body process the alcohol. But don't eat anything high in sugar, it'll make you sick since you'll get even more sugar in your body from drinking.
As for the RU pills you could be right. I thought chasers were based in part on those KGB pills at least. But I could easily be wrong. Never used one so wouldn't know personally.

I agree. I am pretty sure the only reason they work is that they require you to drink an entire glass of water with them every time you take them, and you have to keep taking them throughout the night.
