I would have to say Suikoden 2. A bunch of great twists and even better if you played the first Suikoden. Very intresting characters and multiple endings.

Halo. Without a doubt.

I personally thought the story in Suikoden 2 was terrible...

If I were to pick best story... probably Xenogears.

I would have to say Xenogears, FFVII, and Suikoden 2.

For me, it was Phantasy Star (On the SMS). It was just a very immersing, enjoyable experience.
But FFVII has to come in a close second.

Halo. Without a doubt.

I am pretty sure that he said, "RPG." In which case I don't think Halo would qualify.

Probably not the best story, but Star Wars: KOTOR had one of the best story twists(I won't spoil it, but those who played it should know).

I was always partial to Chrono Cross, though it was convoluted as hell.

I haven't completed SH:C yet, But so far, the RPG with the best story for me is Shadow Hearts. Kept me glued to the PS2 for 3 days to see what would happen next.

Oh yeah, definately the two Chrono games go up there as some of the best and another ditto on KOTR

Halo. Without a doubt.

How come Halo has to some how find it's way into every topic. It's getting very disturbing and annoying.

It was a joke, I don't even have an X-Box, sorry I guess it's a bit of a touchy subject

I've said it once, I'll say it a million times: Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Final Fantasy Tactics had the most confusing story.
And Dragon Force is probably one of the most fun to play RPGs ever (let's pray Sega has Working Designs bring the PS2 version here)

xenogears blows them all away, im not a really religious guy, but the religious side to it's story is pretty neat for a GOOD game.

The last 15 hours of Xenogears was awesome. I just can't forgive the game for the horribleness of the first 18 or so hours.

So, does that mean KotoR is attracted to other games? :-k :?:

Hurry. If you thought that highly of the first one, the second one will make you cry. Seriously.

Final Fantasy 6 without a doubt. 7 was good, but 6 is the masterpiece of the entire franchise. Xenogears was great too, and I would also rank Lunar 2 at the top. Worst story (or stories) ever would have to go to Saga Frontier.

I'm going to have to partially disagree, on the grounds that the gameplay on Disc 2 was taken away. Battle, having you read something, Battle, repeat. You didnt get full control back until like the very end.

It still had a good story though.

Final Fantasy Tactics had the most confusing story.

I second that.

As for best story, I'd have to give the nod to KotoR. The rest of the RPGs I've played seem to involve saving the world from an evil empire while collecting crystals, magic stones, or other sparkly things. I enjoy them, but I guess I need to play more RPGs that aren't so traditional.

I'll agree w/ Suikoden II and Final Fantasy X. I really didn't think as much of FFX's story (or gameplay, for that matter) until I went through it a second time. It's really a very complex story, and an awesome game overall.

I'm usually more drawn to character-driven games tho. I'd say FF9, FF8, Wild Arms 3, and Kingdom Hearts all had very well-done characters - even if their stories were somewhat cliche.

Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross.

I also loved Secret of Mana, and the story in Secret of Evermore was pretty cool, even though the game wasn't all that great.

Final Fantasy Tactics

I didn't find it that confusing at all, and the game itself kept a pretty good log of what characters did what and when. Also if your having some confusion I highly suggest reading through the Germonik Scriptures (Relic Item) in the game, and perhaps a second play through.
