This is unbelievable. Why won't advertisers leave us the eff alone? Cheap ass link (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2026&ncid=2026&e=1&u=/latimests/20041117/ts_latimes/tivowillnolongerskippastadvertisers)

Looks like I'll either go with a competitor or build my own. Probably the latter. Or a future Xbox could offer this functionality.

the stand alone DVR still skip right? this is why i left TIVO for my Comcast DVR 2 months back .. ALso my Comcast DVR has more time then TIVO ..

TIVO around 23 hours
COMCAST if Analog 30-32 but if you tape DIgital 40-50 hours

TIVO price 300 bucks + 12.95 month fees
COMCAST FREE + 9.95 monthly fees

Why would anyone who can get comcast get a tivo ... Plus TIVO cant tape HBO movies

it isn't that big of a deal, they are just going to be putting up spot ads as you fast forward thru it...and if you are interested hit a button, and the company will be notified about your interest and have all your information...

That's not as it bad as I thought it would be, but I would never consider owning a TiVo now.

Then again, I was never highly considering owning one anyways, but up until now I thought the TiVo was a cool thing.

You can still skip commercials at the same speed as you would regularly...Except now, a still advertising image will appear as you fast forward.

Not a big deal.

If thats the case, they better start lowering their monthly fees or consider having free service since advertisers are going to be paying Tivo lotsa $

everyone who never owned a DVR might think they are stupid to own but once you got one you will wonder how you ever did without it...... THere is one bad thing though and that is VOD ... once VOD goes nationwide major time you got to wonder how it will effect DVR sales. Then again im sure VOD wont be big for 5 years or more so DVRS are safe in the short term... Fort wayne is to get VOD By the end of the month HOPEFULLY... lol right now i use my DVR to record many hours of cartoons to watch saturday nights when i get home late and nothing on.

also they are nice since you can make up your own Tapes I got all 3 matrix movies on my DVR and once i get a tape i can put all 3 back to back to back... Same with other movies that had more parts

They say that it is what their customers want.... I am sure that there are some people who will actually enjoy the way they are going to do things, but there will be just as many (though likely more) who do not like it and some will cancel their TiVo subscriptions. It doesn't seem like a good strategy for a company that hasn't turned a profit yet, especially since a controvery like this will most likely turn away potential customers.

So instead of watching a commercial now I can click an icon to register to win something too? I thought we bought these devices to skip the commercials.

Wow, you get the uneducated post of the day award!

TiVo 40 hours is only $100 and there's a $100 rebate, boom, free. The $300 one you're talking about is 120 hours!

Plus, with the $12.95 fee per month you get all the cool stuff that makes TiVo different than the Comcast digital VCR. It records programs it thinks you'd be interested in. It records anything it finds related to a wishlist (like Fishing, or an actors name). It streams MP3 music and pictures wirelessly from your PC with the free TiVo server software.

Oh and HBO movies? TiVo tapes all of them just fine, did you have some crack for breakfast? :)

F TiVo. I'll stick with my ReplayTV, which rules.

Its still better to record programs on your tv.

Since ads pay for th shows unless you pay a subscription, they will probably never completely disappear. They will just evolve new ways to get the ads to you.

To hell with TiVo. Do it all for free with a Radeon All-In-Wonder.

I have a Dish Network DVR, and it has no limitations at all. You can record ANYTHING you want.

Good luck with that. Once you turn 40 prepare to get fired because you no longer "relate" to the target audience. I've seen it happen...
