Requests:
Radar Mission (GB)
Hyper Lode Runner (GB)
I figure it's a long shot, but what the hey. If you can actually put these together, I'd be thoroughly impressed and grateful.
Another obscure random request to add:
Micro Machines (GB)
Figure if somebody randomly has the box lying around that they can scan, might get lucky.
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I know people have in the past requested people make cases for them. I just ordered 20 DS cases and only have 11 games that'll fit in them (stupid WarioWare Twisted!! ;) ). I'm in the process right now of figuring out if I can do the necessary printing at home or if I need to outsource it to a professional place, but if anyone is interested in me making them some cases, PM me and we'll see what we can work out!

On the snackbar-games website, they have case designs for regular gameboy games. Are there any DVD-style cases to hold gameboy games?

You can mod the standard issue DS case with an exacto knife or razor blade, like so (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=822279).

I'll be messing around with this tomorrow and try to not hack off my fingers and get some pictures posted if people would like other examples.
As a side note, not sure if this thread or the offical thread on Snackbar gets more visitors, but could someone get a Game & Watch Gallery 2 cover put togeter? I haven't been able to find decent scans of the covers but heres some crummy ones to know what we're looking for:

I am working on layout changes for the way the covers are organized on the site and I was curious if everyone likes the current way the covers are displayed (game name next to a thumbnail) or would it be more functional to have a list of the covers that when clicked would show the thunbmail and cover information next to the list. It would speed up loading times and prevent you from having to load covers that you didn't want to see thus saving me a little bit of bandwidth.
Backlash
07-07-2005, 06:17 PM
I would prefer not to see the thumbnail until I click, I think. Or maybe make the thumbnails smaller, though I guess at a certain point it's not even worth showing a thumbnail if it gets too small.
Snowcone
07-08-2005, 10:55 AM
A valid point. I figured the thumbnail would stay the same size and it would merely change as you clicked different titles in the list.

I think I'm done for now. Here are the pics of my completed collection. The only two missing are Super Monkey Ball Jr. (Case made, but am going to trade/sell it if anyone is interested, let me know) and Rampage World Tour since the case is in the midst of being hacked apart for it's GBC cart.
The last thing I'm realling missing is Zelda DX to fill its case. Anyone have one they want to get rid of? :)

Has anyone doing this used kinko's to print their covers ? I was wondering if anyone had a general idea of how much they cost per cover. If it is comparable to the cost of buying new printer cartridges, I would rather have them do it. Thanks for the help.
daroga
07-22-2005, 09:06 AM
I used Office Max, $1.19 per legal size print. Awesome color laser quality.
I looked into Kinkos but it seemed expensive (either I had to pay them a butt load to get the images off of a disc for me, or I had to pay a by-the-minute charge to use one of their computers).
I would recommend taking them to a place to get printed, but both Kinkos and Staples were cost prohibitve for that (Staples wanted like almost $3 just to get an image off of a CD).

did you have the images on a cd and just bring it in ? and was that for glossy, semi-glossy or matte ? $1.19 per image isn't bad at all.
daroga
07-23-2005, 02:34 AM
Yup, I just rotated them so they were long-ways and burned them to a disc. It was for matte, bright white paper as I think to much gloss combined with the plastic looks goofy. You can get an idea of how they turned out in the pics I posted a few above this one.

Just wondering if anyone has been able to make a game cover for Nintendogs? I got one of the advance copies from Nintendo to test the game, but they did not send the case or instructions. There were quite a few other NSiders that got the game as well without case/instructions, so there might be a demand for these.

Genious idea, bro.
Once I get the time and money, I'll buy a DS case for every GB, GBC, and GBA game I have, if that site has them available (And Metriod Demo)
I have a question though, can I print these out with an inkjet, or will they not work? Will I have to save them to a disc and print them up somewhere else?
Thanks again, because I really want to make my GB/GBA collection all pretty and alphabatized like my DS collection! Although most of my GBA games are cart-only, I'd rather have a case and no manual then just a cart!
Yay, and thanks for answers to my question.

I'm doing just fine printing them here with some good letter paper. All you need is a decent printer which will let you print without a border. I'll try and get some pictures up. Of the fifty I bought - I've used up about 44 for my GBA games. I'm going to have to order many many more for the GB/GBC games I have!

Okay, I have a cheap HP Deskjet InkJet printer, but it let's me print w/o a border. I guesS I could do it. I don't need omfgsuperquality pictures, so as long as it'll work. what kind of paper do you recommend, may I ask?
I don't have too many GBA Games, and barely any GB/GBC games, so I'm thinking I'll probably get 20-30 to cover what I have now, and a couple for the future. ^_^

Alright, so I order 10 cases from nintendo.com, and in the meantime, I figure I might as well get some of these files printed. I e-mail some pictures over to Kinko's to be printed: 9 GBA/GBC covers and 1 Doom 3 (Xbox) cover. I had recently bought a disc only copy from BBV, and it looks ugly on the shelf.
Anyway, I got a call from Kinko's yesterday saying they couldn't print the covers because of copyright issues. Has anyone else gotten a similar response, or is it just because of the Doom cover?

For those who got Golden Sun: The Lost Age at the TRU sale, or those that already have it, I've been able to squeeze the map into a DS case along with the manual. I didn't go through all 41 pages in this thread to see if it had already been done or not so please don't shoot me if this was already discussed...
Anyways, this method will require an extra one of the tabs that holds down the manuals on the left side. I stole one from the double-sized Warioware Twisted case.
http://www.twistedrails.com/cag/goldensun_cuts.jpg
First step is to completely remove the DS card holder. Second step, cut out the spot for the GBA manual, as usual. Third item is to cut the spot for the map to go, which is on the cartridge side of the case. It can be cut the same way you cut the manual slot. The last item is to glue the tab taken from another case to hold the map in place. You can see the location I chose in the picture above. I had to scuff up the case and the tab with some sandpaper to get the super glue to work. It will not stick to the plastic case if you do not use something to scuff it up.
http://www.twistedrails.com/cag/goldensun_done.jpg
All done.

So exactly what am I suppose to do with them to resize them to the proper printing size (on legal paper)? Resize to what dimensions, etc.? Out of curiosity, what kind of paper do you guys print the covers on? I would think medium-gloss photo paper would look best...
Looks like if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.

I think there was a Snackbar topic on this. I used regular photocopy paper. You don't want it to be too glossy because there is some shine that comes off the plastic of the case.

The cases look great, but I don't like the black logo on the spine, but a gray gradiant on the front. Every other DVD-esque case always has the same colour on both the front and spine so it flows and just looks nicer..

I just went into Kinkos and printed 8 covers on that special Glossy Tabloid, Heavy Stock paper and it came out to be around $18. I should've asked before he printed them, but they look really professional, so some might say it was worth it. To me it is.

I picked up some HP semi-photo paper from BB a few weeks ago when it was on sale. Could never get the printer to work right, so it came out on two sheets. Doesn't look half bad, though. Only way you can tell is if you look REALLY closely at where the two sheets were taped together.

Firstly, you'll want to cut that tiny divider out of the side that holds the instruction booklet. That way the booklet lays flat in the case. Most people use an Exacto knife or a box cutter. You can pretty much use anything sharp. One guy used nail clippers. It comes out easily and in just a few seconds.
Making the GB/GBC cart fit is a bit harder, as the cart side of the case is quite thick in spots. Basically, cut out the bottom strip from the GBA cart holder, the top side of the DS cart holder, and amout 1/3 of the sides of the DS cart holder. If you do it correctly, the sides of the GBA cart holder will snugly hold the GB/GBC cart, and the bottom of the GB/GBC cart should rest on what is left of the DS cart holder.

I tried using an exacto knife to do this. Dude, this is way hard, I ruined 2 cases because I accidently cut through an instruction booklet tab and I accidently cut through the case.

It isn't for a GBA game, but if anyone is artistic I think we could use a Rumble Pak cover. I know I would appreciate it.

Nintendo of Germany sells these cases. They sell them in sets of 3 for 4,50€ a set. You can order them via the consumer service but I don't know if they ship outside of Germany. And keep in mind that the European cases look different from the US cases that are used here and that the spine is 4mm wider.

Yeah, it fits without much modification. You just have to cut off the bottom of the GBA slot, and shave off a bit from the DS slot. Nothing too bad.

Bump. My worry is that people will casually glance and see "Oh ok, we already have a cover for Sigma Star Saga, so I don't need to do that", but we really don't have one for it. Same for Harvest Moon: More Friends. Sure, there are files up there for them, but if you look at them I'm sure you'd agree that they don't deserve to be there as permanent solutions.

According to manmann99 over at thecoverproject.net:
"Hey i work for a certain printing company and i believe you can use an 8pt gloss paper. that works great! its about as thick as the original insert"
Another option comes from The Game:
"For the DS cases, I use regular matte photo paper. You can get it anywhere. I've found that the glossy sometimes makes the colors too bright (Link's Awakening came out almost yellow.).
For the Universal cases, I got somephoto matte legal paper. Harder to get, I had to order it from Epson's website. It seems kind of thin, but it comes out beautifully."

Anywhoo, I recently got the bug up my butt to case my entire GBA collection.
I printed out the first batch of covers at Kinko's on regular paper for a whopping $0.99 each. Had to bring my second batch to Staples were they were only $0.49 each. Looks pretty nice from both places, although neither one was done on glossy paper. Might have looked better, but I wanted cheap and they still look nice.

I'd have to buy 90 of the blank DS cases, though, in order to cover my collection and have a few left over so I didn't have to order again right away. That's 9 of Nintendo's 10-packs, times $7 apiece which would be $63 fuckin' dollars before shipping, without counting the cost of printing all the inserts. o-: Crap, I don't know if I should do that or just buy some more games. :P

That's 9 of Nintendo's 10-packs, times $7 apiece which would be $63 fuckin' dollars before shipping, without counting the cost of printing all the inserts. o-: Crap, I don't know if I should do that or just buy some more games. :P
All I can say is: the cased games look damn sexy on the shelf ;)

Yeah, I know...I keep looking at my DS collection and thinking, "My GBA collection could look like that.......
I've got the original boxes for like 90% of my GBA carts, but they take up way more space on the shelf, and they're not durable at all (not that I'm taking them into the pit at a Pantera concert or anything, I'm just thinking of their longevity over a longer period of time).
I'm gonna break down. I know I will. :P

Are any of these sites still around? None seem to load for me. I've been wanting to do this for awhile but can't find any sites that have custom GBA covers.

The Cover Project still exists, but it seems to have gone down yesterday and is still down today. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be back :)

Now that I have some extra money and shelf space, I'm thinking about doing this for my collection of ~50 GBA, GBC, and GB games. If I printed the sleeves myself, how much would this set me back?

50 sheets of full color ink. I'd say at the very worst it would use a whole cartridge of ink (which I doubt it will) and 50 sheets of paper. Add in the cost of the cases, which is $7 for 10 + S/H (I think its usually about $36 for 40 or 50 cases shipped).

Could anyone possible a) direct me to or b) scan for me a high res copy of the Etrian Odyssey cover? I just got a cart only copy of it. I assumed it would be easy enough to find a cover scan, but apparently not :P
On a related note, if anyone knows where I could get a manual as well, please drop me a PM.

I was wondering what's the best paper. My wife has a Pixma 6000 which makes wonderful color photos so using this printer is great to go with making the covers.
though I don't know what paper to get, i need about a ream of 100 to make....
any type of brand? I was thinking if the glossy made it too bright, I may go with a matte look.

I gotta check them out in hopes of finding one for Etrian Odyssey. Bought it at GS and they had the manual but no box art.

Some other games may have alternate versions (JP) out there, just have to see if someone from Japan or imported one to scan it.
Really I would love to help, I may have a few that aren't on there and I've been waiting for some free time... sounds like i might scan some in tonight.

I'm really wondering how one would go about with this (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/15/Super_Robot_Wars_D_%28boxart%29.jpg), just for a front cover.
I'm not against this at all, but I am wondering why you would spend the money to do it? Do you usually show off your collection of games to people or do you just like having cases for every game? Please be honest about it. Again only asking out of high curiousity.

Well I the thing for me is that some of the GBA games that I have have no box so it'll be nice to have something to show for it other than just the cart itself. I'm only going to use regular paper and regular ink. Not going to spend an atrocious amount of money making Hi-Quality art.
And the answer to your question, yes I like to have my media neatly & organized. Hate the boxes because they get easily trashed but having a case out its so much easier. Have my BD (Hate the WB boxsets because they are bigger than the other BD), DVD (Have a few that are oversized but I'm good with DVDs), CDs, PS1, PS2, PS3, DS, GC, Wii, DS, & GBA boxes that look ugly on the shelf (have them in a box).
I'm confused by what you mean in your last sentence. Are you saying you keep all your games that are not in regular type cases for their respective console in a separate box?

I think it just looks good, plus GBA boxes don't fair to well.
Have you seen any of the pictures that have done it??? it's great.
It does look great, but I'm just a cheapass and I don't care much about how my games look.

Just started doing my GBA Boxes --> DS Cases...They look much better aligned with the DS cases. Right now I have all GBA original boxes in a box thrown in the closet.

This is simply AMAZING. Thank all of those who are working on those covers! I have so many GBA games without boxes that I can't believe someone came up with this great idea!

Made the GS cases; they look pretty cool. also had to do some modding inside the case so it could fit the manuals, it was a pain in the ass.

very nice, and I agree that it is a pain to fit the manual. But not as painful as trying to fit a GB/GBC cart in there... alot more hacking.

So I know this thread is a relic, but I just wanted to mention how helpful it was in getting into this. I finally bought a good printer for unrelated reasons (not that it wasn't a factor) and figured it was a good chance to both re-case my GBA games and get covers for some of the ones in generic cases.
I'm not what you would call a "crafts guy" but I was amazed at how easy it was and how nice the finished product looks, even with just an "alright" printer. My girlfriend laughed at me when I was buying all the supplies, but when she saw the finished product even she was impressed.
I just placed an order with the Nintendo store for another 10 DS cases, so this is definitely going to be a slippery slope.
Thanks for the tips, guys!

What program did you use to open it? Also, where did you find the cover?
Post a link to where the file was and I can probably figure it out for you.

Try opening it up in MS Paint. Then just go to page setup and switch to legal sized paper and landscape layout. Should print to the right size, sometimes there are resolution issues but that one seems fine.
