Hey, I was wondering if someone could provide me with some sites that have a wide and at least somewhat affordable selection. Any special Christmas deals would also be a plus.

Rightstuf has some great weekly deals and some very heavily discounted boxsets (Low as $20) but there nonsale prices are just as and sometimes even more expensive than most places in that case deepdiscountdvd.com might be your best bet.
Even eBay is a great place for anime, I have bought single DVDs for as low as $5 just be careful of bootlegs but anybody with a little knowledge and common sense can avoid that.

I would highly recommend Import DVD's. They come with more episodes, are cheaper, and come in english dubbing and subtitles. Just make sure it has what you want before you buy.

OMG, please please please do not go to Rightstuf.com, their prices are a rip rip rip! x0thedeadzone0x has it right, Deep Discount DVD is the mammy rammin' place to buy anime. Don't believe us? Head to DVD Price Search (http://www.dvdpricesearch.com). Now, with that being said, Deep Discount doesn't always have the best price, they may be more expensive by a few dollars. Also, sometimes you can get a better deal at Best Buy with one of those 10% off Movies and Music coupons, even with tax.

I agree, DDD is a great place unfortunatly they dont stock titles past a certain point.
And yeah, those imports arnt official, sometimes you can get horribly substandard subtitles or just internet Divx fan-subs (stuff you couldve downloaded for free) if you arnt careful and know who you;re buying from.

RightStuf has some great weekly deals! For example, the His and Her Circumstances series is $40 this week. If you bought it in the store, you'd be paying about $130 for the set. Good way to get full series cheap.
If you want the imported dvds, I recommend http://www.animeniacs.com.

FanSub's are just as good as the original, and comes in handy when the movie isn't anywhere to be found state side. Before I get the morality police on my ass, 90% of the profit from Anime comes from Japan not here so your not really hurting the Anime industry, it's there to stay. It's also rare to see people selling fansubs for profit, fan subing has been around since before the internet and it's been pretty true to the concept of sharing great animation to people that want it. You don't get a fancy jewel case, but the experience is just the same.
Anyways back on topic, I'd say Media Play, FYE are your best sources offline. I've found rare stuff to my surprise at my local Media-Play/FYE.
A good source for online would be http://www.animeondvd.com/

He wasn't talking about fansubs, he was talking about some of the sites listed. And those places DO make money from selling bootlegs. If you don't want to pay for anime then go and download it. However, paying for bootlegs supports companies who use those funds in some cases for other illegal activities including drugs and the child sex trade. I'm not her to preach morals, I just don't want those damn Taiwan bootlegging assholes making money from something they have no right to sell.
I would go witth DeepDiscountDVD as they have said. Rightstuf when they have a sale. And, of course, BestBuy if you want to shop locally.

If DDD has a disk, in my experience, 80% of the time they have the best regular price.
But TRSI [Right Stuf] is worth checking out solely for their sales/specials. I wouldn't and never have bought regular priced stuff there, but I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of sale stuff [which would have cost me thousands at regular price].
Plus it's nice to support a company who has done so much to help make anime accessible in the US. And their print catalog is excellent in itself :)
And please, don't buy bootlegs. Fansubs of titles not available in the US are one thing, but you shouldn't have to 'buy' those at all.

Series collections like these aren't bootleg, right?

Well, I can't say for sure.
My big signals are:
* all region
* massive discount
* lots of episodes on few disks [the most I've seen for a R1 release is something like 8 for Sailor Moon. 4 for CCS, most have between 3-6.]
* Chinese subtitles
I personally wouldn't buy that collection, but I honestly can't say if it's a 'bootleg' or an 'import.' Aren't most legitimate imports Region 2 or 4 or something?
Ziv_Zulander

Legit imports are usually Region 2, 3, and 4. The things you listed above are sure signs that it's a bootleg.
If you live in the US, it's not really worth importing since they're usually more expensive, have less episodes, and no english subtitles unlike Region 1 releases
