With PS3, Xbox 2, and the Nintendo Revolution on their way in the near future, what do you think we will see in terms of the types of games we play or the graphical enhancements?
-I see a vast improvement in terms of graphical looks, especially when it comes to professional sports. We may just see truly lifelike models.
-'Loading screens' reduced to a minimum, if not totally eliminated.
-Games like GTA and Katamari Damacy being fully realized.

I dont think the graphics will be that much better. The load times all depend on whether or not there is an internal storage device, Hard drive of flash memory, something is needed.

Loading Screens will NEVER be eliminated. With technology advancing more and more, games will become more and more complex. I guess just the obvious.. better graphics, better games, etcetcetc, and for the love of god, hopefully a graphics boost for GTA.

I expect more of the same at higher prices and with better slightly graphics. I would love to see new types of games instead of the same old same(Halo 3, Spiderman 3, Tekken 6, GTA 17, etc..), but I know that won't happen.

Loading screens could be eliminated as technology for flash memory moves further into the console market. The ability to load all of the games components onto a flash HD and play just the audio off the disc is a very possible future.
Another thing is that the graphics wont get that much more improved because they have to market people who dont all have HDTV's....given enough time, computers may take the console market...but at the time, thats neither here - nor there yet.
The biggest improvment in the future console wars (At least, I think) wont be DEVkits with good graphic presets...but Good AI and physics presets....imagine if the PS3 had built in Havok physics engine (ragdoll and other cool stuff) and the game developers only had to tweak it.... or if the PS3 built in the chip the ability to break down walls and bridges in the enviroments....built in crumple polygon zones for vehicles and buildings...Imagine a very well put together AI that can be tweaked....as the development time gets longer and longer to make a good game, most companies are getting scared to spend 3 years on a game that doesnt take off (IE: Beyond Good and Evil, great game by the way) Now if Sony can cut DEV time in 1/2.....then everyone will make games for sony and not Microsoft.
I think that the next console war will be based in game play and immersion and NOT graphics....(at least not ALL graphics)

What do I expect from the next console generation?
A much longer overlap with the current one than has ever been seen before in the US.

I have enjoyed this generation alot. Perhaps not as memorable as past generations but sparkled in its own way.
Halo 1 and 2 was and is great and secret weapons over normandy was fun as well. Have not yet gotten a chance to try ninga gaiden.
Disgaea was a true gem. GTA was fun a total immersion experience like never before. Burnout 3 made racing fun again for me.
Mario party 4 & 5 brought countless hours of fun for me. Metriod Prime was a fun experience. Harvest moon gave new meaning to length =P and viewtiful joe was a real eye opener.
I am hoping great games and systems from all. Perhaps it that so many great games for me have ended up on Nintendo hardware that I hope for 3 things from Nintendo.
1) a controller with at least as many buttons as the competitors. Might not seem important but as soon as we think how in the world are we going to use all these buttons here comes a way that is discovered thats comfortable and then it feels short on nintendos end sacraficing something.
2) Use some kind of storage. Hard disk or flash just something that can help the games immersion. (ie gun shots in walls etc...)
3) Lie. Yes lie. I know thats not nintendo's style but lie and they probably wont but put out underpowered DEV kits close to the competitors so people will still develop for them but have the actual's be more powerful than the competitors not because power matters so much but for the fact that I dont know how many times I have went into a store and hear which one is the most powerful.
I'd even here the sales man occasionally trying to sell another system based on a better demographic for that customer but in the end coming down to power.
Occasionally I hear a parent saying my kid loves mario or crash or whatever that would more pertain to another system but in the end power for some reason wins out.
Now keep in mind I have greatly enjoyed all the systems in this generation but I wonder how many Xbox's would not have been sold if it had less power than one of the other 2.
Good luck to all in the next generation and heres to the MMP GTA on the next generation console. 200 cars flying at a rival gangs base trying to take it over. rockets, snipers, stealth, double agent prostitutes.... crazy...

1. Loading will be about the same.
2. There will be practically ZERO differentiation between the three systems in terms of graphics. Seriously, look where we are and there is only a small difference between all three systems.
3. Wireless controllers - this has to be a given.
4. Sony will pull the rocks out of their ears and finally include 4 controller ports!
5. Now that online play has proven profitable Sony will be charging a monthly fee for online gaming and try to mimic the format taken of XBOX. Also, Nintendo will finally go online.
6. REVOLUTION - ??????????? I have no clue what to think of this. I hope this doesn't end up becoming some Nintendo Swan Song by being too different from Sony and Microsofts' systems and therefore alienating third party developers.
We'll just have to wait and see...

All I want is 16x9 compatibility on all games.

I picture the next consoles to be less of a jump in technology (as opposed to say SNES to N64) than expected and that all the consoles will rely heavily on added devices like Tivo, hard drives, backwards compatability and cameras to sell.

Video game consoles are computers, and most don't have hard drives.

I think the next gen will come down to the better Media Format BluRay V DVDHD.
Yes HD with all that is a must
Wireless Controllers
WiFi "Built in"
But what I don't want is a Big Ticket ie $400+ at launch I think that will keep alot of people away. 250-300 seems to be the price point that works for launch

Improved Online features. I like the XBOX live approach. As long as it is a reasonable price and has enough support, I wouldn't mind paying for it.
Sony - 4 controller ports!!! PS2 having 2 controller ports is lame. It's such a hassle that could easily be avoided.
Nintendo - I really hope they succed this next generation. With the way they are going, they might be becoming the next sega. I really hope they have some sort of onilne capabilities. Many of their games would be a blast online.
All consoles - Backwards compatibility. 1st party Wireless controllers. Improved save features. No more expensive mem cards that barely hold anything.
As for games. I'm really only waiting to see what MGS4 turns out to be like. I know Kojima has stated that he will no longer direct any MGS games, so I hope this new one still turns out to be good.

More emphasis on simple, home brewed games. Just imagine, in between playing GTA: Moon and Mega Man 18 you could reminice about a simpler time, and download a puzzle game, or an old SNES RPG.
Rather than having a hard drive, i think a connection between your computer and console would be cool (store things on your computer, load them up onto your system)
I dont think graphics will change too much (think NES to SNES), and instead fitting more into the game will become more important. Better AI, more levels, weapons, and modes will become the new most important parts, as they are with games like the GTA series.
Also, this may be arguable, but i want to see companies really take their time with their games. I would rather see games like Dynasty Warriors and Mega Man take leaps foward with sequels than just release a new game or spin-off every two months.
whew, that took a lot of thought

XBox Next - Flop
Revolution - Small but loyal audience.
PS3 - King again.
Graphics will see a lot more interactivity (imagine FPSs with Crisis Zone level of interactivity.). Outdoor enviornments will look more natural (no more square mountains).
More detailed characters.
If you want a demo of what they look like, take a look at the CG cinemas in today's games, and you'll get an idea.

The future on console gaming will have:
- more dependance on internet connectivity
- higher prices for games
- games shifting to the Special Edition format in which content will be removed from the regular editions thus forcing gamers to buy the SE's

just a little thing, but i want all controllers, headsets, etc. for all systems to be wireless from the beginning. Right now i would love to have wireless xbox and ps2 controllers, but i cant stand using third party controllers, and i LOVE my wavebird

Better graphics, but I don't expect vast improvements, just top of the line PC like graphics. Trust me on this one.
For PS3 to be backwards (which it will).
Better games.
XBox 2 to be backwards and feature better games.
For Nintendo to learn online can help them.

I guess the second picture could be possible for racing games. If any of you played Rallisport Challenge 2 you know how good graphics could be in racing games.

Since I think graphical power for consoles will reach a limit next generation (or after) and since these last two generation has been more towards the "lets make a game as good looking as possible first and gameplay second" I think developers will have to say to themeselves lets just stop making good looking games lets back it up with gameplay on par with the graphics, I think that will happen next generation. I also think games next generation are going to be on par production value wise like movies are today, where you will get emoitonally more envolved than ever before, like a good movie does when it jerks you feelings around.
It's not about whos got the baddest hardware on the block next generation or whos got the best looking games, it's going to be all about the gameplay (I hope anyways) and story.

One small thing I hope for is wired wireless controllers. Yeah sounds weird but think about it. I would love for Sony to start only producing wireless DualShock 3's for their PS3. But I don't always sit that far away, and I'd rather not waste batteries.. So I would hope they would include a cord so your wireless controller can use the PS3's power instead of battery power. That would make everybody happy :)
