I called about 10 eb games looking for steel battalion line of contact. And most of the employees there told me they had the game and the controller but when I told them there was a second game they were like " i never heard of it so i guess we dont have it". There was even an EB where the guy didnt even know what steel battalion was. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed how uninformed the emplyees at eb games are?

They could be seasonal employees and they likely wouldn't know every title to every game.
They really don't need to know every single game. Them not knowing what SB is doesn't make them stupid at all.
Some EB employees don't know enough about games, I'm sure.

In a nutshell yeah, not because gamers are jackasses exactly, but rather it's an attempt to sell as much product as possible. They don't want somebody detering customers from buying say Fight Club because they know it's a bad game. If you have people who don't know much about gaming they can actually sell the product more objectively.

My thoughts exactly. Had you asked for Mario and recieved the same response, then you have a problem. But not very many casual gamers (which encompasses the majority of GS's/EB's staff) know of the more niche titles. Don't assume they're stupid just because you know a little bit more about games than they do.

I'm both, but I hate my job because my manager is a fuckoff.

I don't even know what the hell you are talking about, and I'm a gamer.

Well, I don't want to knock EB employees too much because the ones at mine are actually pretty nice but on Black Friday when I went to pickup Rome: Total War, this woman was ahead of me getting games for her son. She asked the employee about Dead or Alive: Ultimate since it was a game on her son's list but as a conscientious parent she asked why it was rated M while DOA 3 was only T. The employee just replied "it's just because it has better graphics, blood and stuff so it looks more realistic" so she bought it.

Actually, EB has been hiring people with retail experience more and more. They don't seem to understand that the person should know the product at least so they can sell it. Recently I noticed that they don't seem to care about game experience and the new hires are less than helpful. Christmas is the worst time to have clueless people because you have grandma and the parents coming in to get some games and they need advice. I know a couple people they hired recently should not have even been considered. They need a mix of both really. Maturity and knowledge.

Well not everyone that works at a gaming store knows about games, I've asked for a lot games that the cashier has no clue what it was, that's fine and it's to be expected. It's a job, not everyone that applies for the job is a gamer or gives a crap about games ( ), it's a retail dead end job, they just want to sell stuff, work for crappy pay for a few hours a day and collect a pay check at the end of the week. So it doesn't really piss me off if they don't know what I'm talking about.
Both times I called up EB to ask them if they had a game in stock they said "I'll check" and hung up right away.

Goes directly to the point I stated earlier. They hire non-gamers mainly because of these added folk coming in who know nothing of gaming themselves. If a mom walks up to me and asks if her 13 year old son will enjoy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for Playstation 2? Well I knowing that the game sucks and that's it's constantly blasted in reviews, would likely at least be tempted to tell her no. But a non-gamer not knowing what the game is like in the least could easily answer yes and there's a $50 sale.

I love how you call thousands and thousands of EB employees stupid just because of 1 bad experience in 1 store. btw...it's employees, not emplyees
Honestly, most EB stores (including mine) never received a copy of Steel Battalion so unless you like video games enough to read magazines or websites, chances are you will never have heard of the game.
That's like calling a movie buff stupid because hes never heard of a small indepedent film that came out last year.

Some are very stupid. Some are very smart. Most are in-between. Intelligence has little to do with knowledge.

I would think by now that Steel Batallion would be in the bargain bin for about $10...monster controller included!

I guess EBgames employees are representative of our population as a whole. Some are friendly/ignorant, some are stupid/know-it-all, and some are just plain dumb.

A noob shouldn't bother posting a new topic anyway. Whether or not it's valid is irrelevant - the lifers will knock whatever the noob has to say. Fact of life around CAG.

I don't think its because they are stupid. I get some great service from my local EBs, usually from the managers who run the store and know games. You have to understand that most employees at that pay level (TRU, BB, CC, Target, WalMart, etc.) don't really care about their job, the store, or the customer. If it involves any effort then they usually don't care to go the extra steps for you (unless they know you).
That is one of the problems with retail today. Not enough good help! In which everyone suffers, the customer and the store for lost sales (unfortunately not enough lost sales that the store care yet).

Ive had the same thing told to me. Like they wanted me to sell some games we had tons of that i refused to do but they didnt mind since i sell the others so well. Only thing is dont forget this is for kids. A 13 year old will care more about TMNT liscense itself then if the game is good. They would pick it(if they liked TMNT that is) over a game thats 5 times better even if they knew it lol
