Acclaim is having a bankruptcy sale, and a bunch of their possessions are going up for auction next week. The 43,000 cartridges are just part of the stuff that's up for sale. Also up for sale are antique desks and assorted luxury items - gee, I wonder why they're bankrupt?

But the funniest thing I saw on this was from the Gamasutra article:

Also included in the sales are approximately 43,000 video game cartridges and/or disks – although the vintage and quality of the merchandise has not been guaranteed.

That game got like a million dollars in quarters in one year because of the Arcade. I remember those days... Then I stopped going to arcades...

Acutally, didn't Acclaim just PUBLISH that and NBA Jam? Those were developed (ie: made by) Midway, if memory serves.

I went to Circuit City today during my break from work, and I saw like 50 of those for XBOX all lumped together on the bottom shelves.

Well it says acclaim right on the cart and I don't see midway anywhere.

yeah, they were a big publisher (mostly of suctacular games) but I seriously don't think they ever internally developed one single fun game ever.

Yep, NBA Jam made a killing in the arcade, at that time (and still maybe?) the highest-grossing arcade game ever made. Acclaim didn't make the game though, it was made by Midway and ported (poorly, of course, it is Acklame) to home systems by Acclaim.

Nope, Smash TV was made by Midway, not Acclaim.

If I wasn't working that day, and had an extra $500 for bidding deposit, I'd go. Now if 300 CAGs paypal me $2, (bidding deposit +day of work I'd be skipping), I'll go!

Hmm, somebody must have forgotten to tell acclaim that in order to make money they actually have to sell the inventory that they produce. I mean why did they have 43,000 games on hand?

What was the last game you played by Acclaim? I think it's self-evident why they had 43,000 games on hand. It's the same reason that there were tens of thousands of copies of E.T. for the 2600 sent to the dump. It's the same reason why Gerardo is no longer making albums.

Acclaim...I should feel sorry for them yet they have never put out a game that I wanted so I tell them...Congradulations you got PWNED by all the other video game companies out there.

didnt Acclaim make Wrestlemania the Arcade Game?

I'm pretty sure WWF: Wrestlemania The Arcade Game was another Midway arcade game. I think it ran on the Midway Wolf unit (same as UMK3). Acclaim handled a lot of the midway ports to the 16-bit / 32-bit systems back in the their "golden age".

And as soon as they were about to put out a game that was generating a good amount of buzz (Juice) they go under.

LOL I was waiting for that. Basically if you enjoyed it and think it was made by acclaim it was in fact made by midway.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of that video/vid editing equipment. Nice stuff for someone looking to be an amature documentary director/editor/producer.

Games Acclaim did make:

T&C Surf Designs
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Wrestlemania
WWF King of the Ring
WWF Steelcage Challenge
WWF something-or-other (I know there were 4 NES titles)
Terminator 2
Splat!
plenty more crap. Acclaim put out shitty games since the NES. They became kings by selling licensed pieces of shit. People passed up "Wrath of the Black Manta" for "Total Recall" in droves.

They also developed WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, and ECW Hardcore Revolution and its follow up, ECW Anarchy Rulz.

It may be possible that the 43,000 games are all Total Recall. ow!

...did kinda like T&C Surf Designs.
