What tv shows, or episodes, used to scare you when you were a little kid? For me it was the episode of Punky Brewster where she went into a cave. That scared the hell out of me for years when I was a little kid. There was something about bones, I think her dogs bones (I think brandon was his name, not sure) appears behind her, though I can't remember exactly. I kept getting afraid that a dead dogs skeleton was going to appear behind me whenever I sat down against a wall, and I kept telling myself that the tv show took place in a cave and since I'm in a house I shouldn't be scared.

Lotsa stuff scared me as a child. But probably the most scarey was Tales From the Crypt. Man the Crypt Keeper still creeps me out to this day.

The halloween episode of Hey Dude! gave me nightmares for a little while as a tot. Also, for some weird reason, I used to be scared of the Weird Al "Fat" video.

I like them both now.

Any of those Kung Fu movies w/ the guys w/ long white hair and mustaches (like the Kill Bill Kung Fu master dude) or geishas. Scared the crap out of me looking at their whitened faces.

You guys already named a lot of mine. Are You Afraid of the Dark was really scary for me when i was younger. I also was incredibly freaked out by X-Files. I could never get myself to watch it since it would lead to major nightmares. Another huge scare was the show Sightings which supposedly had real evidence of UFO. Scared the living crap outta me.

Oops! I did it again.

Mine is weird.

The opening sequence to You Can't Do That On Television. You know the part where it shows that stage manager guy's (or whatever he was) face as it zooms in closer and closer then it stamps his face?

Scared the hell out of me everytime. EVERYTIME.

I think I've got the weirdest. On North Carolina's public television channel, there was a math educational program called Square One. On it was a Pac-Man-esque 'game' clone where the bad guy was a tornado. As a kid, I was big into weather, and could read pretty damn well, so I knew how a tornado could fuck you up. The tornado character in that show scared the hell out of me, espically this one episode where the screen 'zoomed in' on the tornado char.

Go figure.

The one episode of M*A*S*H where Henry Blake stopped a guy with a needle by slamming his hand down on the sticky part. It always made me cringe, but then I LMAO when he goes "99,98...." and falls over.

You just had to remind me of Sightings, didn't you? Now I won't be able to sleep.

On a related note, I am 21, and the only show in recent memory to creep me out was: The "Taken" mini-series on Sci-Fi. When ever the people would get abducted would freak me out because the aliens usually looked like humans.

It's not just that, but also the feeling of not being in control is what scared me. Whenever the alien would come, the people couldn't do shit, and in a blink of an eye it was over.

Maybe I have a thing about aliens, I guess.

X-files rules!

Ok maybe someone here can help me remember the name of this movie (TV movie?)

All I can remember about it was one scene that scared the hell out of me as a kid:

A family pulls up by a church (possibly abandoned, don't remember) and the son goes off to the bushes to pee.
He is brutally murdered by some monster, I wanna say it was a werewolf or something similar. The family then freaks out and goes in the church and I think a few more of them (if not all) are killed by the monster.

That's all I can remember about it and it scared the HELL out of me as a pup.

Anyone know the flick?

John Kerry (and a guy in my history class agreed with me) sounds like the dude from Unsolved Mysteries. UM used to scare me.

"Thriller" by Michael Jackson (the video) gave me nightmares. "Are You Afraid Of The Dark" used to scare me as well. Ghostbusters scared me when I was really, really young (3 or younger, I think) and I remember coming home from my grandparent's house thinking that the "stay puffed" (is that right?) marshmallow man was going to walk out behind some trees and right onto briley parkway (the road) or something.

Unsolved Mysteries scared the shaq-fu outta me! I remember they had some of those "ghost stories" or whatever and it used to scare the bejesus out of me, hardcore man.

Also, America's Most Wanted always made me think there were serial killers outside of my window ready to kill me. I was also afraid of tornadoes and hurricanes a lot too, because they hit all the time.

There were a few other TV movies (?) and stuff I remember that scared me. Here goes:

Fortress: I think that's the name. There is a small town school with a young woman teacher and four guys dressed with animal masks (Ducks, Rabbits, and two others) come in and take them away with shotguns. They put the class in a pit in the ground and close it up. The kids (aging from age 5-16) and the teacher have to escape the tunnel, then when they do the four guys are chasing them around with shotguns killing them off.

Some airplane movie: These people were on an airplane with shoddy construction, and midair the whole center of it tears out -- the walls rip off and it's basically open the whole time, held together by the base of the plane. Unrealistic, but scared the hell out of me. Especially because it was based on a true story. I have since hated flying.

Possibly a Lifetime movie: A little kid's parents are divorced, and the dad steals away the kid who is like 5 or 6. He takes the kid to a hotel and puts him on the phone with the mother, then leaves the room. He is outside, and the room explodes (he set a gas leak or something) and the kid is horrendously scarred for life with horrible burns. The rest of the movie, the little kid is in full body bandages because he is so malformed.

I particularly remember this because the next day I was visiting my dad (my parents are divorced) and he drove somewhere I'd never been to before, and I asked him where we were going, he said jokingly "The airport," which is what the evil dad said in the movie when he stole the kid.

I think that covers mine. Anyone remember these?

For TV shows specifically, I used to be afraid of Are you afraid of the dark, a couple episodes of goosebumps, and those unsolved mysteries. And I really don't want to admit this but when I was little, I had this chronic fear of any episode that had the words "to be continued..." after it. It sounded so ominous and menacing that I would run out of the room or get scared to fucking death. I think I even had a nightmare once about that.

Unsolved Mysteries and "It" for me too. They always have some freaky ghost stories...and crazy things going off. Timelife books had a video collection about Aliens that scared me.

Really seeing this guy in the sewer would be pretty freaky.

The best is all these things that scared me was when I was in my room as a kid, or whatever, alone...and I would be just flipping through the channels and then stop at the show...terrorized by it...but wouldnt change the channel.

My very active imagination makes even the smallest dose of horror pretty impactive sometimes so a lot of things scare me. This is an extreme incident probably because of my age. When Sixth Sense first came out, I think I was around like 6 or 7. Well, I was at the lake with my family and since it's can get boring there, we usually see a movie. This time, it was Sixth Sense. Holy shit, that movie scared the piss out of me. When we got home it was already time to go to sleep. I tried going to sleep on the couch but the constant creeking and openness of the lake house elevated my paranoia to the highest it's ever been. So I run up to my parents' bed and try to go to sleep there. Any luck? No, I sat there the whole night; my eyes darting to one shadow to the next all the way to daylight. I hope I never experience anything like that ever again.

More like a video game but Resident Evil. I would always play it late at night with my uncle when I was 6-7. Then one night I had to go the bathroom at like 2 in the morning. The bathroom was at the end of a hallway. When I got out, the lights were off (I made sure to turn them on) and I was just standing there. Then my uncle turns the corner and starts running at me really fast, like one of the hunters. I woke up the whole house.

The best parts about "IT" is how he smiles when he is in the drain, and how he comes to life while they are looking at the photo album. It starred John Ritter :( in the second..not as good part, too bad he is not around anymore :(.

No, you're thinking of "Stephen King's Cat's Eye" with Drew Barrymore. That was a cool movie. "Trilogy of Terror" is the one with the Zuni Fetish Doll that comes to life when the gold chain falls off. That thing is freaky.
