I'm not big on the whole death metal tip really, but i like Mortiis. He is a former death metal guy, of Emperor I think.

I listen to alot of metal like Slayer, Sabbath, Pantera, etc...but I dont necessarily like Death Metal.

I do like Napalm Death, Nile, Carcass occasionally.

Really, the only death metal I listen to is all Japanese. Try some of Miyavi's hard stuff, ditto on Malice Mizer and Dir En Grey. Some of that shit is HARD.

Six Feet Under is hilarious.

"AMERIKA!

AMERIKA!

AMERIKA!

THE BROOTUL!

NO WAAAAAAARRRRRR!
NO WAAAAAARRRRRRR!"

I remember watching a live video of them doing "Bringer of Blood", which has about one verse, a short bridge, and a simple chorus laid over maybe two riffs. GREAAAT stuff. LOL.

But to answer your question, I dig Nile. Out of MorbidAngel4Life's list, I like Arch Enemy and Nevermore the most. Arch Enemy has some killer guitarists, and their vocalist Angela has a nice growl and is pretty darned easy on the eyes. They teared the House of Blues in Orlando a new asshole both last year with Hatebreed and Slayer as well as with Himsa, Bleeding Through, and Cradle of Filth this year. I can't wait to catch them a third time.

Amerika the Brutal isn't even the best song on that cd. Ugly is hands down, and Murdered In The Basement comes in at a close second.

And I totally agree with you about Arch Enemy. She has a killer growl, and she is very good looking.

I'm into the more heavy stuff, and I suggest you listen to some Hate Eternal. They will blow you out of your chair, through your wall, and into your driveway.

Although alot of bands make good music, to much death metal nowadays sounds like Cookie Monster growling into a microphone. I don't listen to it very much anymore because of that. I just stick to Carcass, Soulfly & Max Cavalera era Sepultura, and Fear Factory. And Otep.

Wile I tend to disagree, I like your choices. The newer Sepultura sucks, but when Max was the singer, it was kiler. Too bad they kicked him out. And Fear Factory went down the shitter after the lead singer quit the band.

And did you see Jack Owens left Cannibal Corpse?

I thought it was Dino that ultimately left? I kind of agree, their new album isn't as good as their older stuff.

not too into death metal itself, in that i dont own many albums, but ive always liked devin townsend's various projects (SYL and Physicist are my favorites)

Well, if the lead singer of Fear Factory left then that's news to me. The only member that left was Dino who was the guitarist. The guitar duties were taken over by Christian who was the bass player and now playing bass for them is the bass player from Strapping Young Lad. Burton is still the singer as far as I know.

Anyway, I listen to a lot of metal. Probably too many bands to list.

The lead singer left, and then they decided not to go on as a band, but ultimatley they found a new singer and the new Fear Factory came about. I think your right about Dino leaving as well.

Lately, I've been listening to Stoner Rock and Doom Metal. I also really like this band Mastodon. To me, they are one of the best new bands out there.

I'm suprised no one (except me) in the forum mentioned Nile. I think they are one of the best Death metal bands out there. Of course, thats one man's opinion.

Zao kicks ass as does Mastadon. Mastadon's new album Leviathan is incredible IMO.

I have to agree that all the classifications are getting out of hand. I could care less what kind metal the bands I listen to are. All I care about is if they're kicking my ass.

Leviathan is a great album but I like "Remission" slightly better. It is also slightly heavier too. I recommend that record too.

Kittie isn't really death metal. But they are good.

Since I'm not anal with my bands and don't really like labling music (theres way to many fucking sub genres when it comes to metal), I could careless if they are or not, If the band plays and if I like em I'll listen to them regardles of what label people slap on them. Kittie is a metal band, wether there NU,Black,Death or any other title people love to catagorize bands with I couldn't really care. But thanks for the input..

I was being sarcastic about Six Feet Under. Sorry for not making that clear.

But I'll definitely check out Hate Eternal.

If you want a Nile recommendation, I'll suggest "Wind of Hours" off of In Their Darkened Shrines. I also suggest some Amon Amarth, At The Gates (old-school, but still great), Children of Bodom, and Living Sacrifice's first two albums. All of those bands aren't straight up death metal, but have elements of it.

they're probably the closest non-nu-metal band to nu-metal band there is!!

anyway, i like the folk/viking metal stuff
Thyrfing, Moonsorrow, Falkenbach, Finntroll, etc...

I on the other hand do separate Metal in different catagories.

For example, I don't like Progress Metal bands (like Dream Theater); Although they are (generally) excellent musicians, most of their music doesn't convey any sense of mood. It's a bunch of time changes that amounts to nothing more than musical masturbation.

Hair Metal sucks because it's cheesy. I talking bands like Poison, Warrant, Stryper, etc.

Do you guys see my point?
