Just wondering the going rates.
I've been paying $70 a month for over a year now,... with Comcast.
NOW,... they jsut sent me a card in the mail today,... stating that the price will be increasing to $85 a month.
I have basic cable attached to this as well,.. but it would only shave $15 off, without it.
So,............what are you paying??
How much slower IS dsl when gaming????
Let me know.
Thanks.

Verizon DSL which has been great. It's $29.99 a month and the speeds are 1.4 Mb down and 384 kb upload. They used to be 1.4 Mb down and 256 kb upload, but this past summer they increased the upload for no charge. The service is great as it has only gone down once in 8 months for about an hour. It's great for playing online games whether that be via PC, Xbox Live, PS2, or on GC.
$105 for digital cable, HBO and Cable internet through Mediacom. I can't complain to much because I have a hella fast connection. I do shed a tear everytime my bill comes though.

Eh? I don't get it. They don't have a web browser? You can't just use IE or Mozilla? Seems like you're paying $15 for a useless service.
I've got Comcast and these prices suck. $42.95 for internet, $40+ for "standard cable". Cablevision and AT&T Broadband were better than this bullshit. My only choices besides digital are $40 for "standard" and $10-$15 for local broadcast stations only. Thats bullshit. I hate these government sanctioned monopolies. Normally I'd say if you don't like it, nobody forces you to use them... But we are forced to use them, they're a monopoly.
Doesn't help that I'm blacklisted from Verizon.

My thoughts exactly. I have earthlink dsl and it works just fine with Firefox and IE.
I personally can't fathom why anyone would actually pay any amount of money for AOL? There are much cheaper basic dial-up providers that are just as good and their broadband service doesn't get you shit, just their crappy "features", all of which are available for free elsewhere. It's not even an actual internet service, you still have to get your DSL or Cable service elsewhere

geepers must be my market my bill with comcast for basic cable plus internet is ALWAYS 85-90$ so sounds to me like you got it better than me for at least a while.... wonder why we pay different prices... just because I live in a very expensive area probably so they figure there are plenty of people to pay the price.

$26.95 for SBC Yahoo! DSL. You can get it for $19.95 a month if you also sign up for their $50-ish unlimited long distance package. A good deal if I had any real long distance needs that weren't better served by my cellphone.
For gaming purposes there is virtually no difference between DSL and Cable, provided the ISP involved hasn't made any serious configuration mistakes. Once you get past analog modem speeds the major issue is latency, not data speed. The actual amount of data being sent at any moment is pretty small. The issue is it getting to you quickly enough that your opponents/allies status hasn't changed in the meantime. This is why satellite connections are by far the worst for gaming. That trip to LEO and back before getting to the actual Internet really slows things down for the individual packets even though there may be a lot of packets being sent collectively.

I had Dishnetwork top 120 + HBO and Cinemax so my bill is about $70-75/month for that plus $35 for RR via Time Warner. It started out at $30/month and goes up in $5 increments every 6 months until it tops out at $45 at which point I will drop the "DSL is much cheaper and they keep calling" line and see if TW will extended the promotional price.

Home: SBC DSL. $50. Our $27 contract was up a couple of months ago. Looking for new service.
College: $90 (maybe a little more) for Comcast for both internet and cable. Also looking for new service because of the price. If they jack another $15, we might probably change.
Does anybody know whether they have Verizon in San Francisco yet?

I'm basically stuck with Comcast or WOW in the Detroit area. Comcast has been good to me, excpet the price kinda sucks. Although, when compared to WOW, it's about the same if I get top Internet. The HDTV services on WOW are not as good either.....
I've tried to say...."we'll I can get it cheaper HERE, and Comcast pretty much said...go ahaead then and switch"
ALSO...Does anyone know the difference between DIGITAL PLUS & DIGITAL CLASSIC w/Comcast? I think the Classic is like $4 cheaper, but maybe not....doesn't seem like there is any difference, but I'm sure there is.

From my experience with cox, its a waste to buy their faster plans, the cheapest one is just as fast. Maybe they have changed things int eh last year, but I had the fastest plan, then downgraded, and noticed no decrease in speed.

only for 6 months. ;)
I have Cruzio which is a local company though many people know of them around the country as they seem to have a good reputation and all. I recently got it for 29.99 for a year.
*edit*
Oh yes, and since they're local and not lots of crowding on the networks, I always get no less than 1Mbps. Usually I get around 1.2 to 1.3Mbps (Max for the one I have is 1.5).

I use to have SBC's 1.5/3?? plan for $26.95, but recently upgraded to their 3.0/512 package for $36.95. They also have a 6.0/768? package for about $50 (You have to ASK for it). All dynamic.
And to the OP... from my experience DSL is not as jumpy as cable is. DSL (at least SBC Yahoo) stays at a constant speed, no matter how many users are accessing the service. With cable your d/l speed might be a little quicker, and you actually might get your advertised 3.0mpbs download. With my 3.0 package I get 2.6 mpbs down CONSTANTLY. And to me thats better than going from 3.0 to 1.5 to 2.7 to 2.2 to 1.3 to 1.8 back to a little quicker 3.0. Plus I get a lot better upload speed than what Comcast offers.
P.S. - Whoever said they are now paying $50 for SBC Yahoo DSL you must have missed your renewal. Because when you renew they give you the same price year round.
I get super fast Internet through my school (ISU). I have to pay like $30 a semester, so $60 a year I guess.

There are three computers in my house, including the one I built this summer from parts mostly from Newegg. If my dad connects to the Internet through his work account (which he pays for) we connect at 42kbs+, so its not our modems, its our ISP. They told us that we were on their fast connection line, but thats a lie because we used to connect at 50+kbps though them.

Well, I called Comcast again last night....tried to wheel some kind of deal...no go. They have been pretty lousy and not giving me deals. Oh well....They DO have DVR now, I'm supposed to get that...only $10/month and I already pay $5 for HDTV box, so it would only be $5 more.
Of course, she said she had to have a "supervisor" call me to confirm that there are enough DVR boxes to go around....guess what, no supervisor called. I have someone coming out today to look at my HD box since it's been defective, hopefully he has a spare DVR box with him
