I'm curious.
Why is the "get out of your parent's basement" believed to be such a effective insult by adolesents and pre-teens? I understand 30+ year olds using it, and it carrying weight, but when teens and preteens use the phrase, don't they realize how silly they look?

No. I live in a room in the east wing of thier house.
Considering I have to be present in the offices of automobile industry executives near daily, my boss would have my head if I smoked pot, didn't bathe or didn't shave. Needless to say, I wouldn't be keeping my job very long.

Why do I still live in my parents house? Because I want to move out into my own house instead of an apartment.
Could I afford to live on my own? Sure, without a doubt.
But, living with my parents, I can put 75% of my paycheck right into savings, and have enough for a downpayent on a house and six months of payments saved up. I'm not going to run into something headlong without planing for it. That's just foolish.
"Freedom" from your parents is not worth putting yourself in such a financial bind when you don't have to.

It's a silly prejudical statement that's easily grasped by even the feeble minded. Thus it's popularity with teenagers.

On the Internet, troll is a slang term used to describe:

A person who makes posts (on newsgroups or other forums) that are solely intended to provoke responses from others, or to cause annoyance or offense.
A post that is intended to incite controversy or cause offense. (Many posts may inadvertently cause strife as collateral damage, but they are not trolls.)

I shower daily and wash my hair every other day in order to maintain the proper texture.

I live in a room on the second floor of my parents' house, I am 19 years old.

I'm going to keep living here after college until I make enough money to place a down payment on a house, I don't understand what could be wrong with that.

Kids who live in dorms and use the parents' basement line make me laugh.

Whats the age limit before you decide that maybe its time to move on with your life and get out from under your parents. This guy I work with his son is 35 and still lives at home. I could understand if he was retarded or if the parents need help. But he is just a 30 year old losser. His parents are fine and he is not in any way retarded mental handicapped or nothing. He just spends all of his money on games and booze.

In a lot of latin cultures (I'm Mexican-American) it's very common for children to live with their parents until they're married, and then it's just as common for the parents to live with their children in old age. No big deal.

I've lived away from home in several different places, but I'm currently living with my parents finishing my last year of college. I'm 23 and I shower every single day.

And I don't think this topic was any dumber than any other posts on here, because I've seen some dumb ones.

I shower/ shave daily. Though I skip the shave sometimes if I'm definately not going anywhere (studying, sick etc.). As to where I live, it depends on the time of year. If it's during the school year I live in an apartment in toronto, and yes I pay for it with my own money (not my parents). During vacations and the summer I live at home in my parents basement. It actually isn't that bad, it's a full apartment, my grandfather used to live here before me.

edit: Someone mentioned age limits. There's this strange super religious guy down the street, he's 40 and still lives with his parents. He has chosen not to have a job for the last 15 years (doesn't have a drivers license either), and cannot understand why anyone would move out (and thinks I'm a horrible person for going away to college). When his parents die he plans to live off the inheritance money and in their house for free. I don't talk to him anymore though.

I knew I should have sent those applications in for GTU and GU!

I am still living with my parents, but I am also still in school and don't even make a enough money to pay monthly on an apartment let alone food, utilities, etc.... I am very eager to get the hell out of here. I lived in an apartment by myself for one semester and it rocked! My parents want to help me with an apartment, but can't right now as my mom and brother are also going to school. Mom is in graduate school out of state and living in a dorm. Brother lives at home also. My dad is actually thankful I am still in school because he said there is no way he could take care of the house, animals, and my lazy ass brother without me. Only one more year and I am out of here!! Thanks goodeness otherwise I might just go bleepin batty.

wow there are more people in basments then I thought! This topic was really just a joke topic just to get a few laughs on a slow day (right before the cc invasion) anyways thanks guys for posting and for taking my back. While it was a joke there was some seriousness to it. I really was curious to how many people still lived at home. I knew it would be a lot since most are at home cause of school.

Frankly I have been on my own for about a year now and I regret moving out, especially after looking at what I made for the year and what I have to show for it....squat. The only reason I moved out at 19 was my gf, and like I said, it really ain't all that great.
