Just saw a post over at Gamefaqs (XBox forum) where someone got Atari Anthology for $5. Go get it!

Steve A.
Atari Anthology has been $5 at CC since the summer sale.

Alright! I just got back!
Got 8 titles.
Bellevue Crossroads Circuit City
They rang up just as said.
A lady right before me raised heck about ripping them off, so I tried to find a different cashier. This different guy was cool about it. :) My roommate was a bit slow in picking out titles, so he ended up with the heckled guy and didn't have a chance to get the $5 prices. :(

Note:
Virtua 4 Evo was tagged at $15 and rang up at $15, so it seems only $20 titles count.

Note2:
20:1 this'll be fixed by Monday morning.

Do you have to have them ring up 2 games to get the discount? Because I just had the register price check each one individually, and they were all ringing up for 19.99.

Erie PA CC Is a no go. They manually changed the prices stating that someone forgot to put the 1 infront of the 4.99 on the comps. I was mad at first because I missed out on a sweet sweet sweet deal but thanks for posting anyways.

Didn't work for me at the Fairfax VA Circuit City. (Just got back)

Yeah, I can confrim this also. Didn't work at the Fairfax, VA CC for me too. Hey Wubb when were you there, I was there at 6:30 PM. Also, did you notice how they didn't have a good selection of Xbox games. Anyway, I tried to get Everything or Nothing and Project Gotham 2 and it didn't work. Also, Xenosaga was $15 so that didn't work either.

12-12-2004, 10:13 PM
Damn, I wish my CC had the selection of some of the ones you guys are going to. Jak II, R&C 2, and FFX-2 are all tagged $30 at my store, and they have about 7 Xbox PH games titles total.

Still glad I got the two I got, though.

Simpsons Hit & Run (PS2)
Simpsons Road Rage (PS2)

Hey everyone,

I just got back from Circuit City in north Austin, TX. It seems that Corporate has sent out an email to the employees about the ad.

"Games are to be rung up separately, outside of the (something) area."

That's why it's game over for some people (including me). Good luck.

It doesn't matter what they are tagged. Have them price checked and they will more than likely be $19.99. They have DOA 2: Hardcore marked as $49.99 and it rings up $4.99.

I got:

Need for Speed: Underground (PS2)
Socom II: US Navy Seals (PS2)
Tekken 4 (PS2)
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (PS2)
007: Everything or Nothing (PS2)
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 (PS2)
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GCN)
Super Mario Sunshine (GCN)

Total came up at $42.72. I bet someone at Corporate got fired for this one.

Because this isn't a deal.
For those that exploited it when it's misrung itself due to an error when they input the deal, I doesn't bother me all that much.
While it does bothers me that so many are being so outrightly greedy and selfish about it (buying 10+ games),it's something that CC has brought on itself for the errors in its' programming and not remediating the error.

But there are two specific things that are bothering me about some of the posts, that are usually common in these type of "exploit" deals.
First, are the ones who piss and moan about how they can't get the deal, or bitch about the cashiers that won't let them rape the store.
Second, and even more vexing, are the ones who are at stores that are either remediating the situation, or never had the error, and people are defrauding them to get the deal.

While I wouldn't take part in the deal, I can understand why some would.
People casually using it doesn't seem all that bad to me... but people the people conducting fraud and those bitch about people actually doing thier job just bug me... and this happens in every single exploit thread.

And, I would like to apologize for being harsh earlier. It just irked me that everyone was flaming me for being "vague". I just assumed you would all be slick and just take advantage of CC's mistake. I never thought anyone would ask them to use a specific package. Sorry about the assumption.

I understand what you're saying to an extent. I don't fully agree, but I see where you're coming from and I respect that. In any case I don't feel guilty whatsoever. Not because I'm heartless or out to screw the major businesses, but because the CC employees not only told me about the deal, but encouraged me to buy more and more games. And I said this earlier in the thread: no matter if this was error or on purpose, SOMEONE abuses this... I've said so many times that if you go about this in a certain manner, it's fine... not necessarily acceptable, but fine... now I read people doing EXACTLY what I said: being asshats and really abusing the error... Jesus... 'I had to take two trips to the register because the limit of 12 per transaction was reached.' is the type of stuff that has no place here, and it certainly will have a trickledown effect in terms of CC being a bit more harsh in terms of limits, such as a mandatory Limit 2 per customer per day rule...

Wow I don't remember using the term selfish asshole, I just said he was a punk, and that was because of the way he talked to me in a condescending manner. Maybe I should have included that in my original post. But also it sucks to deal with a guy like that when I hear about employees at other stores encouraging people to go back for more. Thanks for jumping all over me though, it'll make me think twice before posting at this forum ever again.

They even picked some out for me and asked me told me about them and asked if I'd be interested in it. I love Circuit City. :D

If that's what went on in your situation, I have absolutely no problem with what you did. In fact, that's great that you got those deals and such pleasant customer service.

Same thing happened to me. The store manager himself did the transaction because the employee kept messing it up.

That's awesome. It's good to hear good customer service is not dead.

man if you look back at the first 5 pages its nothing but everyone being an asshole to the guy who posted the deal... sad.. i didnt read the last 10 pages of this thread but i hope atleast a couple of people appologized and/or thanked him for the deal.

yep. I think everyone owes him a big apology. I saw this posted this morning and saw everyone crapping on this thread because he was new and the deal seemed too good to be true. I wasn't so sure about the deal either, but I didn't feel the need to jump on the OP. I think most people couldn't understand who it worked by the way he was describing it.

Anyway. THANKS OP! I haven't picked up any games. Might check it out tomorrow. Don't think I need any more games piling up, but still a good deal nonetheless.

Sorry, guessed, but your understanding is wrong. Reread the first post he made.

Go into your local CC and pick up any Players Choice or Greatest hits game and have the tard there ring it up using package #2 (The one for Platinum hits, etc.). They will all ring up for 5$, not $15 like they are supposed to!!

This suggests that they are NOT to be using the "Package #2" key during this promo. He's suggesting that you tell the cashier to purposely misring the game. Heck, one might as well go to the counter and say. "I really want this $50 game. Please ring it in as $5.

Hey, at least if you go up to a cashier and tell them you want to only pay 5 dollars for a 50 dollar game, you are being honest. If the employee accepts that, then its just merely a barter at that point. :)

I was feeling guilty about it myself until the guy ringing me up poitned out that VF4E was $15 and didn't qualify. It broke the ice a little and made me feel better.

I sure as hell am not going to read all 17 pages of this thread, so what I'm saying has most likely been said several times already. But, the deal works, kinda YMMV.
It all depends on the ignorance (or lack thereof) of your local CC. The first one I went to in San Bernardino, the games rang up right, but without hesitiation the cashier changed the prices. When I saw this, I opened up my wallet and "oops, what did i did with my money!?!?!?" ;) ( I was going to pay with my CC all along). Anways, I then went to my Moreno Valley CC and it worked there. Don't know about Riverside CC for all you locals.

And BTW thanks again OP. I apoplogize again on behalf of all who flamed you.

No go at my local CC. It was about to work w/ some nice girl cashier helping me out and then this punk employee, not even a manger just some kid, came over and he told her you had to price adjust rather then apply the package. He refered to the glitch so I said no thanks, gave him a dirty look and I left.

There is extremely little chance this will work anywhere by tomorrow morning. Congrats to those that got in on it.

Yeah, screw him because he's doing his job.
Yeah. He's the selfish asshole, not you, right?

Wow I don't remember using the term selfish asshole, I just said he was a punk, and that was because of the way he talked to me in a condescending manner. Maybe I should have included that in my original post. But also it sucks to deal with a guy like that when I hear about employees at other stores encouraging people to go back for more. Thanks for jumping all over me though, it'll make me think twice before posting at this forum ever again.

it's funny how you just happened to "remember" the employee talking to you in a condescending manner AFTER someone replied to your post. I still don't think you should've gotten mad at the guy. If it were me working there, I probably would've shot you down too. He was probably informed by a higher authority that he shouldn't do that, and was just trying to save his own butt.

And yes, I give credit to the OP for this deal... the reason for my reaction way in the beginning was that we get a lot YMMV posts which you know up front are YMMV... it was the way the deal sounded initially and the number of posts by the user... Why should anyone have to apologize to this guy? Not only did he not have the presence of mind to explain the deal in detail, but he acted like an asshole when people didn't understand him at first.

Plus, he seemed motivated by the fact that he was "screwing" Circuit City.

I'm not singling you out and I'm saying my opinion that I hate people who always says shit about others when they don't even know them....expecially in a forum. I understand that its probably the best place since there's no face-to-face interaction, but it seems like every time somebody posts a big deal like this, more and more people are liikely to flame than just not post at all. Although I understand that the OP was new and all, but I don't think we need 20 people, who didn't try it out, to ridicule the post.

i think i can simply put what jsweeney is trying to say.

this IS NOT a sale, it is an error.
cc DOES NOT have to give you the games for $5, since they are not tagged $5.
if you get in on the deal, good for you, youre working the system in your favor
if you dont get in on it, please deal with it and SHUTTHEFUCKUP!!! youre not entitled to get something because of an error, so get over it.

You're implying he's a selfish asshole and do you even know him???

Going only on the statement that he made, yes.
I believe it is fair game to believe one to be a selfish asshole if they bitch and moan about how a person who was just doing thier job screwed them over.

I'm not singling you out and I'm saying my opinion that I hate people who always says shit about others when they don't even know them....expecially in a forum.

You are right. I don't know him. He could be a great guy, feed the homeless, volunteer to help coach little league. He could be a stand-up great guy. Based on what he said, that's not the impression he gives.

I understand that its probably the best place since there's no face-to-face interaction, but it seems like every time somebody posts a big deal like this, more and more people are liikely to flame than just not post at all.

I'd tell him this to his face. It is a hugely selfish sounding thing he posted, and it does give him the appearence of being a selfish asshole.
With no other context to color the decision, it's going to be the one that stands.

Even those other sites like Anandtech, bensbargains, and fatwallet are not as harsh as this site lately.

That's because they are longer standing and thier populace has shaked itself out... CAG is still in search of it's soul. Until it finds it, it will be a very turbulant time.

I would follow my advice but seeing that SteveGo is getting double-teamed, then I'm just offering to back him up.

I appreciate the support PrinceNeil but the other guy apologized and I probably did jump the gun calling the employee a punk, even though that seems kind of minor compared to some other choice words I could have used. My point is just that I probably would have let if slide and let someone get the deal as long as the glitch was still active, he didn't, sucks for me. I'll be more thoughtfull about my posts and try not to "attack" employees that do not hook me up in the future.

Again congrats to everyone that did get, $19.99 games will make pretty sweet stocking stuffers

I went and they said it was their "current" promotion, but the thing was that u have to purchase at least 2 platinum/greatest/player's choice games for the games to be 4.99 each cause after every 2 if you buy more than 2, they type something in and it gives the promotion for each 2 games you buy. So if you see alot of games that you plan to buy, just get an even amount of games. I just went and picked up 8 games

XB
Star Wars: KOTR
Ultra Bust a Move
Sonic Mega Collection PLUS

GCN
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball
Legend of zelda: Wind Waker

** I got lucky becuse all of the games that rang up 4.99 were in big plastic bins so they were easy to know which ones were 4.99> Also some of the games that are original but ARE currently platinum hits/greatest/player's choice games they are also 4.99. If the cashier doesn't ring up 4.99 then tell them it's a promo and they'll re-enter everything... Thanks OP this was better then the TRU sale!

From the people I spoke with (not just dumb cashiers - store manager and department manager as well), it seems like this "glitch" is actually a surprise sale, not a mistake. The employees were telling customers about it, and having dealt with them before, I know they are not the type to help others exploit glitches in their own system. Knowing that the weekly ads are printed up months in advance, I would not be surprised if this was actually the new CC $5 sale. I myself am a little confused after listening to the discussion here, and I can see how anyone else could be too, whether they see this as a sale or a glitch. JSweeney and punqsux, while I respect your opinions, I think it's a little too early to criticize anyone or tell them to quit their whining. If it turns out to actually be a sale, then those who got screwed by misinformed cashiers have every right to complain. On the other hand, if it really is a glitch, then it will be dealt with by the head honchos of CC and you'll be free to harass the complainers.

12-13-2004, 12:25 AM
Yeah, it was crazy for a second. I work at circuit city and am in charge of the games department. I didn't know about this since I normally don't ring customers up. One of my coworkers rang up a couple of games and they came as 4.99 so she told them (she really doesn't give a damn for the store), so they asked can they get more, and she said yes. To make a long story short, she basically told everyone "Hey by the way, if you get two GH, they are 10 bucks". I jumped on the deal once I found out, took 10 games to the entertainment manager and he rang me up. 54 bucks for 10 games not f*ing bad.

My manager on the other hand was pissed, she yelled, DO NOT SELL THOSE GAMES AT THAT PRICE. From then on, we had to adjust the price by hand. By the rules, and legally, the order of precendence is Advertised prices, Computer price, and tagged price. So technically they don't have to give you a price if its advertised at a different price. But, all purchases are final and you keep it, so though my boss was mad at me for exploiting, she can't really do much. I missed out on the 4.99 sale, so im damn happy to take advantage of this glitch.

BUT, by tomorrow this should be fixed, because all price errors can ONLY be fixed at night. The District manager already gave everyone word today at five PST.

http://home.comcast.net/~knighty04/look.jpg

Oh and regarding that "package 2 thing" When there is anything two for one, or by two for this price sale, once an item is scanned a window pops up saying: key 1 normal price, 2 two for 30, etc. In this case, 1 is normal price, package 2 is 2 for 30 for any hits games. I tell you one thing, someone is corporate is getting reammed tmw. Our store lost 5000 dollars.

well of corse the managers were pissed that effects their sales which effect their bonus. I wouldn't give people for that price either if it came out of my pocket in the end. Thats why managers don't approve you to get in on deals like this. Cause it comes out of their pockets in the end. I can't blame them. I would want my bonus. My wife just became a manager and she gets a big bonus if the meet their plan and goal. If she dosn't make it we don't get a bonus. Money out of my home! So she is the same way now. And I have a lot more respect for managers that actully pay attention to this sort of thing and make sure they don't let stuff go like this. I mean you can't get mad at them you kno0w its not supposed to be like that. They know it as well. Why would you get mad when you can't do something you know to be wrong or an error. Thats what it was an error. Why are you goping to make their lives hell over it. If they say no. Im sorry you missed out. If your cool someone here will probilly hook you up. If not their is ebay! You can allways find the game you were looking for a lot cheepaer after something liek this. No its not what you COULD have gotten it for but it is still cheaper then you would have paid. And maybe you'll think twice about helping out others when you find the deal beacuse you rember who it felt when you didn't get in on a deal!

I can’t believe it but I actually read this entire thread. It’s kind of sad that everybody jumped on the OP. Admittedly I probably would have been skeptical and doubtful about this deal, but I wouldn’t have jumped down his throat.

I was at my CC today, picking up FF 1 and 2: Dawn of Souls for GBA (they had a nice price on it without using a GGC which are becoming scarcer and scarcer at my BB). I hadn’t even known that there was some supposed box 2 or some supposed deal like this. I was out the whole day and only got back about a half hour ago. I would’ve loved to get in on this. There’s a bunch of PH/GH/PC titles that I have been wanting (Mario Golf, Tekken 4, etc.) I was planning on going back there anyway to get in on the deal. Please, oh please let this work tomorrow. I will so be all over it. Thanks OP. Oh let’s all pray this is still going on.

This’ll probably really clear out all out of those PH/GH/PC titles that have been stuck in shelve purgatory for sometime. They were starting to really pile up at my CC.

My theory on why this happened is that A) someone by mistake forgot to put a 1 in front of 4.99 or B) the system is just discounting too much. Maybe, and this is a very low maybe, that this sale happened purposely by somebody higher up to clearance all of those PH/GH/PC titles that have been piling up at CC. Maybe this is the new CC sale that just popped up out of no where.

I really wish now that I would’ve checked CAG today in the morning instead of being lazy. Never happened to me before, and from this point on won’t.

Even though I haven’t gotten in this deal yet but I would like to say that this guy deserves CAG of the Month.

Whenever I make a post like that, I'll purposely throw in a couple of errors... just to see if anyone picks up on them and corrects them.

Amazingly, this board has had about a 75% success rate. Back when I posted on some other boards, they only had a 30% rate of catching those errors :)

Where'd you get that hysterical cartoon about posting etiquette? I'd like to see more if possible.

I just hope this mistake doesn't prevent them from having another "official" $5 sale like the last one.

It'd take them a while just to recoup from the losses of this glitch.

Agreed... I was cautious to believing this, but it's the first time I can remember in which a deal of this magnitude was posted by someone with so few posts. Not to be judgemental, but in 99% of cases like this.. it is a prank.

And thanks to the guy at CC corporate who was pissed at the man, for having his thumb on his back.. and not giving him a raise.. and thus inducing him to add an extra character when he coded this deal into the computer :)

I salute you Circuit City System Typo Man! If it weren't for your stupidity or rebellion or outright carelessness, the world would be a dangerous place. I only wish that the section of GH/PC/PH was more organized and seperated from the regular games, to make for better browsing of the titles...

At my CC there was a seperate section for the GH, PC, and PH titles. :o

Mine does too, though many of the GH titles are jumbled in the rest of the PS2 section. I think it is due to it being the holiday season though and increase in foot traffic in the store.

I just hope this mistake doesn't prevent them from having another "official" $5 sale like the last one.

CC is losing $10 per 2, which they could have accepted... with this, they stand to lose $15 PER GAME...

Two titles at regular price- $40
Two for $30- $30
Two for 'glitch' $30- $10

Say they sold ten to one person:
Regular - $200
Promo - $150
Promo LOL - $50

Think of how many people bought those from ALL the CC's that honored the 5 dollar price. They stand to lose thousands of dollars on this promotion if this isn't fixed and surely, someone has seen some numbers and will make haste to stop the bleeding... and the chances of a similar promotion again? Probably still going to happen again, but trust they will triplecheck their systems...

I'm new to this forum and this is an awesome first time CAG deal for me. Big props to the OP. This puts me in a very giving mood. I got 3 two month Xbox live trial passes. First 3 to PM me with a request gets it! **1 per person!

BTW I scored these tonight @ Circuit City Huntington Beach:

Soul Calibur II (GCN)
Mario Golf (GCN)
Metriod Prime (GCN)
Super Monkey Ball (GCN)
Midway Arcade Treasures (GCN)
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GCN)

Anyone local in 714 wanna trade their Mario Sunshine for Super Monkey Ball or Sonic Adventure Battle 2?

I saw the posts in this thread about an hour before my CC closed . . . I told my wife, she said go (so I'll shut up about it).

I think I could have passed on the glitch but someone posted an image of Project Gotham 2 and Crimson Skies (I was going to get these at EB on BF but I hate EB and I got screwed).

I pick up Mario Golf and Animal Crossing and PGR2 and CrimSkies. The ring up $5 each with the package but the clerk says "that's not right" . . . I can see that I'm in trouble (manager on the way) . . .

. . . so I blurt out "They say that if the games ring up they should be sold . . ." The "they" is you guys on CAG . . . so I'm dead . . . but he looks up and says "they told you that in back?" I meekly nodded and the deal went through.

I went back and searched . . . my CC is really awful no GH, PC or PH sections. I find Socom II, 007 Everything, MOH Rising Sun and Top Spin. He says they don't have the PH logo on them . . . I convinced him that they are (they are $20 in the sys afterall).

so:
Mario Golf
Animal Crossing
Project Gotham R2
Crimson Skies
Socom II
Everything or Nothing
Top Spin
Rising Sun (not a great deal but I needed an extra fast)

for $40
none of the Xbox games have the silver cases!

THANK YOU CAG!!!!!

I don't like PC, GH, PH banners either, but I managed to get only two with them. Every Gamecube game on my list had yellow sticker on top. Goo Gone worked well. I've been waiting for the GC games to go down in price. It doesn't happened very often.

Mario Golf (GC) (not PC)
F-Zero GX (GC) (not PC)
Super Mario Sunshine (GC) (not PC)
Soul Calibur 2 (GC) (not PC)
Harvest Moon (GC) (not PC)
Kirby (GC) (not PC)
Zelda WindWalker (GC) (not PC)
Manhunt (PS2)
Ace Combat 4 (PS2)(GH)
Kingdom Hearts (PS2)(GH)

Total $53.70 (with Tax)

There was a grandma with a big bag at the store taking every game from the shelf and trying to convince me she was buying them for her kids. I smiled at first , then after having enough of this :bs: , I told her, that I wish no one will pay more for the games at her shitty Ebay store. Finally I shut her up.

I would like to thank OP for posting this deal and standing behind it :boxing:

According to the person I spoke with (a general manager, btw), THIS IS NOT A GLITCH. I asked if it was some kind of mistake, but they said it was not a mistake at all. I was able to get 20 games, but they had to be rung up as two separate purchases because of a limit of 12 games per purchase.

Where in Michigan are you? I might have to take a lil roadtrip tomorrow if this is still active...

Something tells me ebay is getting flooded tonight w/ GH/PC/PH games.

I arrived at my local CC in north county San Diego around 6:50 pm. The first group that knew about the 'sale' arrived at the store about 30 minutes early. There was a chest high piles of empty game cases at the two registers near the games section of the store and a couple of the employees were splitting thier time between the customers and stashing games.
There were about five people rummaging through the games and about twice that w/ a stack of games in thier hands looking for more. It was an chaotic but amusing scene. I found the two games I was looking for on a display everyone seems to have missed until that point; after I pointed it out it was stripped bare. I also picked up a couple titles for my girlfriend and started heading for the register when I ticked off looking manager told the employee at the register to stop selling the games for $4.99 and manually override the price to $14.99. The employee asked if he could finish up with his current customer and the manager grunted and walked away. I asked the guy behind the register since I was already in line if he would ring me up at the sale price, he said sure no problem but I'd be the last one. So it seems I managed to slip just under the radar on this one. I don't think the deal will be live tomorrow.

It seems this deal broke out here based on the time stamps on the posts in the various formus. Anandtech posted the deal at 6:10pm and FW posted the deal at 5:27 pm, CAG had the deal posted at 11:25 am, per the time stamps on thier respective boards. 42 minutes later someone confirmed the post on FW. 42 minutes later on this board it looked like y'all were still flaming the OP. I think it's a little silly that CAGers could have had a jump on the deal thanks to the OP's heads up but spent the time flaming him instead.

Now off to the trade boards to find the games I missed.

Thanks for the deal OP, great post =)

I wasn't able to get to my CC on Sunday so I missed out on the $4.99 "sale". Would someone help me out and sell me games that you have extra copies of or don't feel like wanting anymore at a reasonable cost? I can pay using a non credit card PayPal account.

If you want to trade, you can also check my tradelist. My feedback rating is currently over 15.

I'm looking specifically for these games:

(Xbox)
Psi-Ops
Crimson Skies
Project Gotham Racing 2
Simpsons Hit & Run
007: Everything or Nothing

(PS2)
Rise to Honor
SOCOM II

Well I managed to get a few games tonight, despite the unintentional efforts of a fellow customer to sabotage the whole thing. It's a little anecdote I like to call "How NOT to be a Cheapassgamer". :D

So I get to my So Cal store and grab an Animal Crossing & Manhunt combo (two polar opposites of gaming, but hey). Spot a guy cruising the aisles with 10-12 PS2 Greatest Hits under his arm, obviously he's onto the deal too. He comes up to me, all excited, and tells me about the deal, I say, yep, I know about it, I'm gonna try it out now. So I go up to the register thats in the videogame department (NOT the main register at the front of the store), and slap my two games on the counter. They get rung up, computer screen shows $10 as the price. Excellent, nearly there.
But the employee stares at the screen, puzzled. :? Obviously nobody else has tried it at this particular store. But, Uh-oh, possible danger here. So I do my best subtle holding-my-money-out pose and smile :D , as if to say, hurry it up please, and I think he's about to shrug and just complete the transaction, when this doofus holding the bunch of PS2 games sticks his nose in and tells the employee "Yeah its supposed to be 2 for $10, part of the promotion", like he's the authority figure here. The employee looks at this guy, looks at the stack of PS2 games he's carrying, and clearly doesn't like what he sees at all. He calls another employee over and they look at the screen together trying to figure out what to do, all this time I'm holding my $11 out right in front of them, and PS2 doofus asks me "So where'd you hear about this deal?". Both employees looked at me waiting for my answer. No way am I going to blurt out about CAG, so I just said "uh, from a friend", :x but by this point the game was up. The employee called the manager on the phone, and I knew it was a bust. The employee says its a price mistake so we can't honor it. And this ASS was going on about how the deal was on the internet, and how if it said so on the computer then they ought to honor it, but the guy wasn't gonna budge. So the jerk puts his PS2 games back and leaves the store, empty handed.
 So I improvised and grabbed a couple of Xbox Platinum hits, strolled over the main register where a young kid was working, and he rang 'em up, came up as ten bucks, I paid. Dare I push my luck and try it again? Fortune favors the bold, so... I snuck around the store Sam Fisher style (managed not to break anyone's neck though) back to the videogame section without the first employee seeing me, grabbed two Gamecube player's choice and got back to the front register, rang 'em up with the same guy, I grinned and said "Hey I'm back for more!", and got the hell out of there. Dare I go back a third time? Well, no. Four games, not too shabby. Four more than that JERK who almost blew the whole thing for everybody.
Like I said, its a textbook example of how NOT to be a Cheapassgamer. Dude, if you're reading this, you're obviously a noob at these things, so here's some advice - When you're dealing with an obvious mistake/glitch in the computer system like this one, you just play it cool. Do not exploit it by walking around holding more PS2 games than you can handle, obnoxiously trying to tell employees what they should be doing, and talking about how this deal was on the internet. Act natural, as if you didn't know the deal was there in the first place, and be polite and friendly to the employees, as you want them do you a favor by letting the deal through. You blew it, bub. No soup for you.

Or you do like I do.. talk with the employee about games, be just as amazed as he is when it rings up $4.99, then run back to the shelves, excited, and grab whatever other games that you know are $4.99, and "see" if they ring up 4.99. I did this during the CC $5 sale and walked out with 7 games, including sealed copies of Star Wars: Jedi Outcast and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I actually ran into "guessed" there one time and shook his hand and talked for a minute, neither of us were greedy.. I didn't take multiples, and he had been there the night before and left the extra copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for someone lucky enough to find it (go me!).. I love CC deals.

Hehe. I walked in and casually picked ut some titles I was hoping to get on Saturday at CompUSA's buy2get1 free. I then get some more and by this time have about 6. Some kid walks up to me and excitedly asks if the deal works. I tell him I don't know.

Such a rush.

I can’t believe it but I actually read this entire thread.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, and I wasn't even going to take advantage of the prices (not that it matters, as it's 2 am Pacific time here). It was like being a fly on the wall, back in time. I got to see flames for the OP, flames for whiners, flames for the flamers of whiners, and hear tales of success and failure. Gripping stuff.

I just hope that, when we die, we get to look back at all aspects of life like they were posts on a message board -- or like an all-encompassing DVD. That way, we can catch up on everything that happened in the history of the world.

Wow! You have a weak grasp of the English language, complete with a lack of proficency with punctuation!

proficiency

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to pick up on that :)

You know, I have a really sick sense of humor about things like that.
Whenever I make a post like that, I'll purposely throw in a couple of errors... just to see if anyone picks up on them and corrects them.

Amazingly, this board has had about a 75% success rate. Back when I posted on some other boards, they only had a 30% rate of catching those errors :)

Christ, this egocentric windbag no doubt jacks-off to his own reflection in the mirror.

I especially enjoyed the bit where he flamed the OP and then doesn't have the integrity to admit he was in the wrong, all the while lecturing to others about ethics and proper conduct.

Also, I loved the part where he writes that he would unleash his criticisms face-to-face, even though it is painfully obvious to anybody possessing even a child's deductive reasoning that someone who talks this much shit on the Internet is an introverted twerp who uses online forums to elevate and compensate the tiny and irrelevant station that he occupies in life.

JSweeny, you may have thousands of posts in this forum but all that really conveys to me is that you have no life and spend far too much time in places like this. While your callow and feeble reasoning probably justifies your behavior within the parameters of your own delusional, narcissistic mind, the reality is that you are a shrill and obnoxious bore. This is the first time I've felt the need to call out an asshole at CAG, as most of the people here seem amiable and well adjusted. You however, are simply a prick of the highest order, a pseudo intellectual whose only pleasure is derived from trying to make other people feel inferior. You come off as sad, little, petty, and not nearly as brilliant as you think you are. Lighten up or f--k off but regardless, you are way out of line regarding the manner in which you have conducted yourself in this thread.

To everyone else, I'm sorry to go off topic. It won’t happen again.

HA! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Sweeney!

I wasn't wrong. The OP's method of doing this was an outright scam and is not at all consistant with how the vast majority of other posters got the deal. There is a distinct difference.

Right. Believe what you want. I doubt there's little I could say that would disaude you from the fragile little world view you've set up for yourself, so it's probably not worth the bother of trying.

Again, you've already made up your mind, and most of this doesn't flow from logic, so trying to agrue against you on the matter would be like pissing into the wind.

Kinda off topic with the current discussion, but if you go to your local CC and the deal doesn't work; do us all a favor and don't make a big deal out of it. Don't go on about how you heard this on the internet and you should honor the price blah blah blah. Don't buy multiple copies of the same title, don't make a big deal out of it, and don't be an asshole. You got lucky if it worked and don't be a bitch if it doesn't.

Good advice, unfortunately the type of person you're appealing to gets into bad situations precisely because they ignore silly things like "logic" and "sound advice", choosing instead to allow impulse and a sense of entitlement to dictate their conduct. I'm afraid these troublesome types may be lost causes... but I admire you for trying.

It's always easy to agree with those who's beliefs and values are in line with your own.
The issues come up when someone has nearly the exact opposite beliefs as you.

I understand that there are many times when my posts do bother people... that's been blatantly obvious for a long time.

It's hard to tell, however, if all of the rancor around it is just the screaming of a very vocal minority.
For every person who flamed me or agreed with some of the flames, there was a person who agreed with me in thread, or a person who sent me a PM saying that they agreed.

I already know I'm backing an unpopular position, and even at times playing the devil's advocate.
The thing is, you can heap the flame on as high as you like... it's not going to change much.
If people agreed to a uniform level of decorum, I'd gladly adhere to it... of course, it's highly doubtful than anyone will do that.

Reading the other posts here about agreeing or disagreeing with someone, the best approach (one i've taken) is neutrality... I don't go Woot! if I see a favorite member post, and I try (really hard, I swear... ) not to go apeshit when it comes to flaming... I've sort of developed my own anonimity that way here on CAGm but I'm sure I'm known to a degree, which is fine by me... I love you guys... :P

You get used to being a lighning rod after a while.
You also get used to looking past the flames and trying to see what the person is actually talking about.

Despite flames, the dreadful negativity and a couple of misguided premises, Grammaton-Cleric did have a point.

Of course, the shame of it is that if he actually believes a word of what he posted, he made himself a hypocrite in the same breath.
He applied the same tactics as he was accusing me of using. If he actually believed in the ideal he was backing, every single word of his applies to him just as surely has he believes it applies to me.

Nobody really knows... there's a significant chance that they have fixed the error over the course of the evening and/or sent out a memo to managers... but then again, that might still be in the process of happening, and it could work just fine.

I'm currently debating whether to make the forty minute trek to CC this morning or not.... choices, choices...

So my friend and I are walking around the store for abotu 10 mins, when suddenly a guy runs up to us huffing and puffing, they were about to close the store on us, So i had to put my games back because the registers were already shut down :(. So it looks like ill be going in the morning, hopefully i wont get shutdown.

I think most stores have already begun extended hours, but that usually means they stay open until 9:00 PM on Sundays, and 10:00 PM on weekdays.

To summerize for the people waking up...
CC has a sale...buy 2 PH,GH,PC titles (19.99) for $30. When the clerk at CC presses the button to do the sale, it actually makes the games $5. In essence, instead of making them $15, it takes off $15. Some people had no problems with doing it, some were denied, and some were told by management that its on purpose.
Apparently someone has checked this morning, and it is still in the computer that way. THIS IS NOT LIKE THE ORIGINAL CC $5 SALE!!! This is 99.9% likely to be a glitch, and is not something you should rail into an employee for.

So far, yes... but you have to buy it in multiples of two... so if you buy both KD and MAT2 at the same time, it SHOULD go through... but I've been strictly sticking to the PC/PH/GH titles with 2 per so I can't personally confirm it. I'm going there right now. I'll have news later tonight all.

can someone totally confirm this for me? I can get ANY game that has a $20 price tag on it for this deal. Ie that katamari game and midway treasures? Does not have to be greathits, plat., etc... How can this be?

So far, yes... but you have to buy it in multiples of two... so if you buy both KD and MAT2 at the same time, it SHOULD go through... but I've been strictly sticking to the PC/PH/GH titles with 2 per so I can't personally confirm it. I'm going there right now. I'll have news later tonight all.

For some reason, Drakengard (which is $20) doesn't ring up as $5. It rang up full price.

Also, I don't think CC carries Katamari Damacy.

Anyone mind going to CC for me? I'm going to check the list of PH and GH to see what I want. I'll pay for your trip out there ($5 or so)

I just came back from the Madison Heights, Michigan store and no luck. I could see the 2 options on the cashier's screen, but i also saw that ESPN NFL 2k5 and College Hoops 2k5 for the xbox rang up for $19.99 each.
I also noticed that the employees were buzzing about, seemed like something had them all feeling cheated. So I think at one time this morning it worked and they are unhappy campers right now.
