Just heard that XBox Nation and GMR have ceased publication...I guess Merry Chrismas to those employees. So much for my 82 free years of XBN.

Damn, I just signed up for a free 2 year subscription to XBN.

I guess I should keep the issues I have.

maybe you'll get a refund for those 82 years...

Yeah, I think they MIGHT have to refund you....how do they know if you actually PAID for the subscription. I always wondered that.

Darn, no more XBN for me then.....all my gaming mags are running out of FREE subs.

I knew about GMR, but XBN also!? So much for my free two years. "Here, have a free year of XBN for standing in line here at EB at the Halo 2 midnight launch!"

Yeah, thanks a lot EB.

Is it official that XBN is gone, cause I only heard about GMR.
Please tell me this is unconfirmed.

For those that already have subscriptions, they'll probably transfer your subscription over to one of their sister magazines: EGM, Computer Gaming World, or Official U.S. Playstation Magazine. For a full list, click here (http://www.zdmcirc.com/). I subscribed to PC Accelerator and to Next Generation when they folded, and in both cases, my subscription was transferred over to a sister magazine, so Ziff Davis will likely do the same.

Damn, that really sucks. Even though my free subscription was due to run out in a few months, I really did enjoy XBN.
Does anyone know why support was pulled.

Common sense says that if a business ends one of its products its because the product wasn't profitable enough to continue making.

Damn, it was a crazy news day yesterday. First EA, then these two magazines.

If you look at the subscription rate at the back of the mag, you'll see the sub rate is comprable to that of OPM. (though i haven ead OPM in 1.5 yearsso my #'s may be off) With between 80,000-200,000 readers per month and advertisment on every other page I dont see how this could have been an issue of dollars and cents.
GMR was pulled because supplemental funding (from EB was pulled) I wonder if there was somthing similar going on at XBN. Let the conspiracy talks begin!

This is horrible news. I really enjoyed XBN. I would even pay the normal subscription fee to help keep them afloat if I had to. Officiial Xbox Magazine is crappy compared to XBN.

damn, I too had a free sub to XBN... I like it was well as GMR which was well written and very stylish

I too agree anout official xbox magazine... I know they are trying to pump up sales of their system... but the bias in the articles make it unreadable at times (like when they DIDNT have any Grand Theft Auto games, how every clone that was coming out would end up being so much better that it

They should be contacting you about that soon. I'll probably see if I can transfer half of my XBN to PC Mag and half to EGM.

If its OPM, you think we will get the demo disk with it? I have around 5 years worth of XBN left.

Why did XBN cease publication? It was a very good magazine.

(Unless the freebies had something to do with it)

According to a customer rep at XBN, they will decide which publication to replace your XBN subscription with, once it ends.

Am I the only one that thinks that would be extremely funny if they switched it over to OPM?

Bah, and I had XBN to 09.

I'd like mine switched to OPM. That is, becuase I have both an Xbox and PS2, and OPM is the only Ziff-Davis console mag I don't get...too pricey for me.

but i'm sure the majority of the XBN subscriptions are free subs.

First Incite, now these two.

How the Shaq-Fu can mags like LamePro and Tips & Tricks stay afloat?

GamePro just sells itself to the highest bidder and Tips and Tricks just repritns the same damn tricks month after month.

As a non-Xbox owner, I enjoyed XBN's modesty and unbiased reviews - they weren't afraid any and all of the Xbox's faults. Never having read an issue of GMR in my life, I can honestly say it wasn't going to do well when they have to have the EB grunts try and sell my a subscription every time I bought a game.

When Next Gen folded, they started shipping issues of PSM to my non-Playstation-equipped house.

Wouldn't change the sub, either. I would assume this is just a "gaming is gaming" mentality on the part of the publisher. Maybe ZD will be a little more perceptive, if not receptive.

I agree with you. I liked XBN a lot. It had humor but very honest opinions as well. If the game was terrible they weren't afraid to rip it a new hole.

It's amazing Gamepro, such a terrible magazine, is still around.

That's not what I was told today. I called them since somehow my EGM sub went to the digital version. I asked them while I was checking about that and they said that all subscribers will be getting a postcard in the mail either with their Feb. issue or sometime later notifying them about it being cancelled and asking which mag you'd like to switch to or refund the money(which if you got it for free, you won't get the money, the person that paid for it will).

I got my January issue of XBN with the free sub, I wonder if I'll even get February or the postcard.

If what you're telling us is true, that's great. Hope one of the mags I can switch to will be OPM.

I hope so too, since I don't want to add to my CGW subscription & my EGM one is good until 2010, which if I moved the XBN one to that, I'd have it until 2014. I'd also rather have OPM anyway since I haven't read it in a while.

Last magazine I got said the February issue would be out 1-18-05. Which is strange, not only because of the reports of the mag shutting down, but also because the back of the magazine it said the magazine was published monthly except for February. :shrugs:
