View Full Version : How nuts do you get when trying to complete a collection ?

There are very few things that I have a complete collection. Back when I started buying stuff on ebay I got a ton of Starwars Micomachines for really cheap. I liked them so much I eventually got all the ones that hit the store shelfs in the US. But I was too cheap to get them all because I wouldn't pay the insane price the Foreign/Pizza Hut exclusives.

I eventually got over that and moved on to collecting other things.

Well last week I went to target to buy a space heater. I went to the toy aisle and they had some kick ass star wars toys. They used to be called Playschool Starwars figures but now they are called Galactic Heros.

I saw these at the SD Comic Con and loved them there and this was the first time I saw them on the shelfs. The figures come in 2 packs and they had only a few on the shelf. They only cost 5 bucks a pack so I figure 2.50 for each figure is a decent deal. I took 2 sets, so I got bobafett, dengar, bossok, & 4-Lom.

So here they are sitting on my desk and it's driving me nuts that I'm still missing IG-88 and Zuckuss. I need all 6 damn it ! I went to TRU and they didn't have any of them. So tomarow when I'm out around town I'm going to like 8 different stores just so I can have all 6.

It seems to me pretty damn geeky and compulsive to want those 2 missing figures.

Anyone else ever go nuts trying to complete a collection ?

Oh god, I too was under the dark grasp of Star Wars collecting until a few years ago.

I got EVERY SINGLE action figure that came out starting in 97 through spring of 02. Around that time, it became really hard to find any new figures, and everything was getting a bit pricey. I finally decided to give up that fall.

Now all I really collect are video games. Glad I found a way to save money, lol

Resist the urge to collect stuff. It's a waste of money and I have so many boxes full of crap that I don't know what to do with it all. I know what you mean though - sometimes it's easy to get wrapped up in something and go crazy...

Yeah, collecting crap usually turns out to be useless. The only "collection" I have now is my game collection, but I use those. They don't just sit around...

this reminds me of the family guy where Peter says...

I bet you ALL of my star wars action figures, but not bobafett.. I never risk the fettman no matter how good the odds are.

yeah well I went to Target then Walmart and they didn't have any of them. But I went back to the TRU I went to yesterday and they had restocked. The one I wanted was a buck more then they cost at target and that pissed off the Cheap ass in me. But I payed the six bucks so I could complete my collection.

You'll go even more nuts when you find out there is a Skywalker/R2D2 pack of them. :)

They do look pretty sweet although I'm not sure what I would do with them. Did you get the Millenium Falcon (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/id.1026/dn/default.cfm) too?

No, I don't think I'll be picking up any more of these. I just wanted all 6 bounty hunters. The insert in the package shows off the next wave that includes lando in skiff gear, jedi luke, jawa, Tusken Raider and a few others.

I think the bounty hunters are the coolest. I was temped to pick up the chewbacca today but passed. I still haven't see the yoda one in person so maybe I'll get that one.

I also felt the need to get these since I missed out on the cool bounty hunters kubricks

These became so expensive it was nuts. I was able to pick up the IG-88 in this set, but the others are just too expensive to pick up.

I remember when Episode 1 came out there was a 3 store promotion(Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC) of these little Happy Meal like toys, and I had to have them all,(30 total I think each store had like 10 different toys, but no stores were the same). So through out the month long promotion I ate nothing but fast Food from these 3 places, I ended up with two complete sets put I think I gained 20 pounds in that month.

Ninja Turtles

My friend had every single one, literally no joke. I even helped him getting them all. He had 2 completely full Ninja Turtle Laundry bags full as well as the Technodrome, Van, Sewer, and some other stuff I can't recall anymore. Were those the days. I wish I was 10 again.

I've tried to stick to only collecting DVDs, Games, and music CDs. I have a bunch of sci-fi toys but I'm not obsessive about it anymore, I'll just pick something up if I like it.

OCD or OCB, yeah i've got it too.....but i'm getting better all the time.

i had the complete set of bionic six, good and bad. plus a couple hundred action figures. had to pack all that up and store them away, so my gf won't freak out.

huge comic collection, too. only missing a few, less than 2 or 3 i think, of x-factor 1-100; chased that for awhile. ehk.

yeah, like javeryh said, it's not worth it sometimes. just learn to let it go.....

I had a massive comic book collection with some original #1's (Spiderman,Superman,Green Latern and Spawn), Well over 300 comics. I lost them all after we moved from our old home to my current one. I was crushed, I stilll collect them (more Graphic novels/mangas than actual comics) but pretty much have stopped collecting. Right now the only thing I collect is toy's for my computer desk, starting to run out of room..

You don't really have to worry.. most of those books out of the 80's are barely worth anything... the four you specifically mentioned had UNGODLY huge print runs.
