An easy one is which OS is better Windows or Linux. Break down your criteria into three topics like ease of use, security and cost of ownership.
You can then persuade your audience into realizing that one is better than the other in all three categories.
Plenty of articles (from CNN and others) are out there that can help you and they can work as "filler" during your speech.
Good luck!

Do something that comes naturally, esp. for this board:
Gamecube is better tha Xbox (or vice versa, whatever)
DS is the best portable console

i dont really want to talk about video games ^^
to effectivley speak about gaming, the people hearing the speech have to have some background in the gaming scene, i mean we can debate points here becasue we're all freaking nerds, but if i gave it to my class all but 2 or 3 of them would be sure to miss 90% of the speeches content, you have to speak to your audience.

I did a persuasive speech this semester on why children should not be allowed to play M-rated games. Its still about gaming but your audience will still know what you're talking about. I got an A on it too by the way.

-Talk about the Scott Peterson death sentence.
-The media and the culture of fear that it propagates.
-Reality TV shows. Have they gone too far? Not far enough?
-Is the internet destroying the written word?
These are things that sound interesting to me anyway, hope they help.

Gay marriage, either for/against.
I tried that once, and the response was "I feel sorry for you because you don't know the love Jesus has for you".
Bad idea.

An excellent sociologist, whose work is often discredited due to the fact that it's most well known citation was in Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine."

Wow, alot of people here don't understand what a persuasive speech is. You need to persuade someone.. not just talk about things.
However, as many of my friends and I did way back in college... do why you should go to the dentist, every audience member can relate, its simple to find info on.. and not so controversial as to cause people to tune you out.

I don't know what college you went to, but students tune out of *everything* in my experience. If it's between class start and stop time, they ain't hearin' it. With the exception of a select few, and, in my limited teaching experience, those are typically the older students.
