It has both, you just need to have the cable for it. Its easier to find AV cables for the Genesis 2 or 3 though.

Depends on the model...I know the Genny 3 is AV only...the Genny 2 can use AV, not sure if it does RF...I know the Genny 1 can use RF, not sure about AV.

On the Genesis 1, that large port next to the RF port is for AV, but its hard to find those cables. I've only seen it once. On the Genesis 2, they share the same port, you can find those.
Dunno about 3, I only have 1 and 2 next to me.

Genesis 3 definitely has both seeing as that I've used RF with mine before.

Gen 3 doesn't work with Sega cd, or 32x supposedly though, not sure exactly why, but it doesn't.

The Genny 3 doesn't COME with the RF cables by default though...it only comes with MONO AV cables. You'll have to pick up whatever other cables you need separately.

Good point, I forgot about that. Don't buy the genesis 3 if you care about stereo sound cause for some reason sega thought people didn't, and took it off.

Stero cables for 2&3 do exist. It was just cheaper to put in mono a/v

They aren't that hard to find. I've never seen "official" ones, but the cable itself is darn easy to make. Just solder DIN-5 to some RCA jacks and you're done. Better yet, there's an electronics store in town that sells them premade for like a buck. The only thing is that the sound out of it is mono only, but you can use the headphone jack to get a stereo signal.
This site (http://www.gamesx.com/index2.htm) has a lot of good info, including the pinouts to make your own cable.
Slightly OT, I've got a Model 1 and the cart slot isn't making contact like it used to. I have to put the cart into the slot just right to get it to work. Is there an easy way to replace the slot or would I be better off just trying to clean it the best I can with alcohol?

I remember reading somewhere that some genesis 3's don't even have the chipset to make stereo sound though. Don't remember where, but I'll do some searching.
EDIT: I guess it was the genesis 1 that can't output stereo except through the headphone port. Disregard my previous post then.
