I guess I wanna start a thread for games that have either dropped off the face of the earth after being announced, and games from past generations that were awesome and have gotten lost in the shuffle. Let'sa go!

What ever happened to the Gamecube Puzzle Compilation that Nintendo was supposed to release with downloadable versions of each game for the GBA?!?! It was announced for the US, I'm pretty sure of that.

Also, did anyone ever play (and LOVE) the old Dreamcast game called Speed Devils. I got so addicted to that game, I wish they would release something similar and prettier...

EDIT: Speak of the Devil... (no pun intended...) http://www.speeddevils.com/

Earthbound 64... to me one of the saddest cancellations of all-time. Some other sad cancellations are Fallout 3, and new Full Throttle and Sam & Max games.

Actually, thank god, the Sam and Max crew branched out, and this game actually may see the light of day.

"When Sam & Max: Freelance Police was abruptly cancelled last March," Connors said, "we were moved by the ground swell of support from the fan community, including an online petition to continue the development of the game."

"When we saw the petition and how upset people were, we knew we had to start Telltale Games," Kevin Bruner added.

I also wish I could've gotten the chance to play Capcom All-Stars, but instead we get Crapcom Fighting De-Evolution :(

It WAS finished, and it leaked to the net. I have a copy, and I know a few other CAG's do as well.

I was actually thinking about this series just the other day. I say series because they did make a psudo-sequel w/ Speed Devils Online. I never played that, but the original was a great racer - had to love those environmental effects.

I think the one that bugs me the most has to be Powerstone. Why?????

Starfox 2. Two different versions (one early, one nearly complete) eventually leaked onto the net, and it would've been a great SNES game, but it was canned near the end of development to put promotional emphasis on Starfox 64.

Yeah, I've been bummed that Nintendo Puzzle Collection never showed up over here, even just as a filler title for an otherwise quiet period. Maybe they were spending time remaking Tetris Attack (the Yoshi-themed US version) out of and just got hung up on it.

At this point, though, it'd make a great DS title.

A few notale games that I remember and were eventually cancelled:

Sonic Xtreme (3D Sonic game on the Saturn. Reportedly cancelled after Sega saw how good Super Mario 64 was).

Propeller Arena (It was a DC game that was completed, but never came out due to 9/11).

Steven Segal: The Final Option (This was a SNES game with digitized graphics. I think it was completed or almost completed, but never released. I remember seeing a prototype cart, so there's probably a ROM dump out there).

Speed Devils is indeed excellent.
I think Thrill Kill was just ahead of its time--I can't see why Thrill Kill couldn't be released, but the GTA series, Manhunt, Suffering can. At least Thrill Kill is fantasy violence.

AFAIK, its not coming to the US anytime soon, so I'd say import it. I got my copy a few months back and my friends and I play Panel De Pon (the Japanese equivalent of Tetris Attack) 4-player more than Halo 2. Plus you get 4 player versions of Yoshi's Cookie and Dr. Mario (almost identical to Dr. Mario 64, however). I found my copy on ebay for about $45 shipped and freeloader can be had for no more than $20.

I HIGHLY recommend you check it out.

Oh and as for games that never were, WHY GOD WHY did Square not release Seiken Densetsu 3 (the sequel to Secret of Mana) in the states?!?! I got a Super Famicom and the game a few years back, but my Japanese isn't THAT good and I don't really have the patience to go through such a sprawling RPG without any idea what's happening in the story.

The Final Fantasy Game that was supposed to released for the N64

Capcom Fightin Jam which was some 3D fighter by Capcom, I saw a couple screens of it and it had Strider, Nash (Charlie) and some other characters from Capcom's games.

The only video for the game in circulation hinted that it was a remake of FFIV. The battle graphics were way better than FF7 but they character designs were dumb because they kept the deformed look of the 2d games.

My choice for game that never was, would be Aeon Flux. I heard it was supposedly going to turn out pretty bad, but I would have loved to have tried it.

Yeah, that's what I remember seeing. Pictures of a deformed Shadow, Terra and other characters.

There are translated roms for Seiken Densetsu 3 on the net, and it would be legal since you have the original cartridge.

Ah yeah, that's right. I actually followed the development of the translation from the start and downloaded it the day it was released. I guess I just forgot about it.

But then again I'd still kill for an official US release.

That's what came to my mind first too. I was instantly drooling over that game the first time I saw some pictures of it in a gaming magazine.

Final Fantasy 64 comes to mind as well, the screens for that looked great, but because Nintendo was so foolish to use carts instead of CDs they lost Square and lost a large share of the market for video games. Nintendo's biggest mistake ever... not using CDs for the N64.

Donkey Kong Racing was supposed to be a Nintendo/Rare project, so that's why that never came out. Instead we get Donkey Konga...

Finally, I'd like to add Doshin the Giant, I know it was released in Japan, but I'd still like to see that game over here in the states, as well as, a remake of Dragon Warrior V and VI.

Policenauts (the sequel to the Sega CD hit, Snatcher)

The game was supposed to come out on the Saturn and PS One in the US and it never did. It's a damn shame because Snatcher is one of the most coveted games of ALL time. Hideo Kojima made it and you would think that with all the money that he made with Metal Gear he would release a Snatcher/Policenauts compilation in the US. My only hope is that maybe he'd let Working Designs do the game but I doubt that.

That's a good one.

one game that was always brought up in conversations about Snatcher was Shadowrun for the Snes. That game was awesome. The end-credits had tempted us with the promise of "Shadowrun 2".
Too bad it never happened.

Quantum Redshift 2 for the Xbox. Curly Monsters was supposed to have implemented eight player XBL racing and lots of other goodies. Just the fact that CR shut down is sad - they were made up of a lot of ex-Psygnosis team members, many of whom worked on the original WipEout for the PSX.

I was really looking forward to TFLO as well. But I guess if it was cancelled, it must have been for a reason, right?

As far as ports, I was always pretty sad that Devil Summoner never made it out for the Saturn here in the US. I was always looking for a good Saturn RPG. And of course, everyone is bummed about Policenauts. :(
