Christmas special...

It was a normal episode on Saturday.

Edit: From adult swim,

"Our Venture Bros. Christmas special airs Sunday, Dec. 19, at 11:45 p.m. Production deadlines being what they are, we don't have a clip for you. But click here to check out exclusive preview images from the special."

Damn, I hope it repeats.

I saw part of it and wasn't/hadn't know that it would be on. Wish they would have shown a few more commercials for it. HOpefully they'll re-run it soon. From what I did see of it, it was hilarious.

Update: I stand corrected. i must have missed it the first time around on their schedule board. The Christmas Special will re-air this Thursday at 12:15 in the morning. (Technically Friday morning.)

Also the ROD OVA's appear to be re-airing this weekend.

Well, I'm betting it's available via secret, illegal means also. I don't condone piracy, but I don't condone not watching it as soon as possible either. It's got a Brock fight in which he doesn't murder his opponent with swiftness. How often has that been seen?

yes..I was laughing so loud last night. When the spell book monster started attacking Dr. Venture, ah that was classic. I really hope they put VB on DVD.

Yes, it was a lump of unimaginable greatness packed into 15 minutes of show. Excellent, and a great way to cap off the year for VB. I think they're reairing it on Xmas-eve. Now I have to hunt around for it...so I can watch it 10 more times before the DVDs come out.

Couldn't have said it better myself :) It's been a long time since I've been excited about a TV show, and I hope Venture Bros. enjoys at least a few more seasons.

They really needed a full half-hour. It whizzed by so fast it was over just as I was at what my mind was sure would be the half-way point. VB interruptus. The last part was probably a dream, too. Too good of an idea to just leave dangling otherwise.

It was fun pausing and reviewing the RePlay during the party to identify all of the guests for geek value.

He's a desparate nerd trying to recapture that era when he could believe he was cool. The loser may get older but the girls never get any older somehow...

I've wondered if the episodes were broadcast in the order intended. When they first appeared in the Fantastic Four it seemed like we should recognize them but design wise it appeared they may have been made just for that epsode and fitted into the backstory later. Dr. White appeared to be based on John Byrne's version of the Human Torch, especially the haircut. And Billy made a good reverse of Ben Grimm's human form.

Perhaps they'll talk about it on the DVD, which I'm fully prepared to purchase for a reasonable price, if anyone at Adult Swim is listening...

Just making sure. I've resisted the allure of most other Adult Swim shows on DVD. I would perhaps pay for a Big O set that included the unaired 27th episode entitled, 'So What the Fuck Did All of That Mean, Huh?'

The original production order would have yielded the episodes to air in like this:

101 - Dia de los Dangerous!
102 - Careers in Science
103 - Mid-life Chrysalis
104 - Eeny, Meeny, Miney... Magic!
105 - The Incredible Mr. Brisby
106 - Tag-Sale, You're It!
107 - Home Insecurity
108 - Ghosts of the Sargasso
109 - Ice Station Impossible
110 - Are You There God, It's Me, Dean
111 - Return to Spider-Skull Island
112 - Past Tense
113 - Trial of the Monarch

...instead of the order we saw on adult swim:

100 - The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay
101 - Dia de los Dangerous!
102 - Careers in Science
107 - Home Insecurity
105 - The Incredible Mr. Brisby
104 - Eeny, Meeny, Miney... Magic!
108 - Ghosts of the Sargasso

106 - Tag-Sale, You're It!
112 - Past Tense
113 - Trial of the Monarch
111 - Return to Spider-Skull Island

That's why there are story elements that we "should" know, (because they were written in that order), but due to production delays or whatever, they aired them in a different order. Not sure of the specifics with that, however.

I liked it quite a lot but the ending just appeared to be the writers throwing up their hands and admitting they didn't have any idea why any of this stuff was happening when they started but it sure seemed like a good idea. Kind of like the ending of the movie version of Akira. It didn't really end so much as run out of film.

I'm remind of the old Onion bit: "Attendees at Kubrick's funeral find last 20 minutes of his life incomprehensible."

OTOH, this has the 'Easy Rider' deaths of Hank and Dean occurring before the end of the season. It's easy to see why the network thought that should come last. It makes for a kind of cliffhanger, since we're left to wonder if it will just be swept under the carpet or factor into the beginning of the new season.

As far as I know Akira ends much more definitely in manga form, but it's a lot longer too, so they literally did run out of film on it. I should probably get the rest of the volumes one of these days. The two I have are killer.

True. The production order as I mentioned above reflects more to the writing, like when the scripts or even just basic plots are written out for each episode. It's very possible that the deaths of Hank and Dean were not part of the original plot of Return to Spider-Skull Island. But through production, etc., they moved around the episodes and the order in which adult swim aired them is presumably the order that the creators finally decided upon. This is just my speculation.

In this case, naturally it made sense to have their deaths during the last episode for that cliffhanger. But like you said earlier, there are other elements that we "should" know, but don't until later. It's very weird, but it gives the show a cool twist to it.

I was wondering if I was the only one that found Akira's ending sort of strange. It was a very good movie but the ending just left you feeling like you were missing something.

The only AS DVD sets I want the most are the Aqua Teens which I'm planning to buy but I have just been lazy on my movie buying lately.

Great episode yesterday. I was able to watch it in its entirety. I love the ending when *Spoilers for those that haven't watched* they crash in Bethlehem and Brock says something to the like: Were in trouble now, hopefully the Israelis get here first, I have some friends in the Mossad. But if the P.L.O get here first we might be in some trouble, my Arabic isn't too good. and then Dr. Venture says: Oh it's o.k the plane runs on Plutonium, we can always nust barter with them.
