I'll put a ditto on this.
Also, the TRU 50% deal was incredibly generous to me, and many others. not the best prices, but still great deals.

i have go with the gamerush trade in 2, get ANY used game for $10, also the trade 3 get ANY used for $10 was good as well. Got halo 2 for $10, kotor 2 for $10, ninja gaiden for $10, star wars battlefront for $10, burnout 3 for $10, time crisis 3 for $10, vampire night for $10, skies arcadia for $10, and many, many more.
The circuit city $5 sale was nice as well. With games like marvel v capcom 2, disgaea rez and gitaroo man all going for $10, you cant argue wtih that.
But imo it is no contest, the gamerush sale applied to the hot new releases that are damn near impossible to get for cheap any other way.
The ebgames sale on the PC games was only applicable for games marked $15 and under, so while it was good, none of the top games were available like at the gamerush sale or the cc $5 sale.
And what about the mtv store summer sale? it had stackable coupons that let me get growlanser deluxe for $60 shipped. some VERY nice deals on that sale.
IMO the top sales were these:
1) gamerush
2) tru clearances
3) cc $5 clearance
4) mtv store sale.
cant go wrong on any of those

My choice would have to be the Gamerush trade 3 for $10 deal becuase this was the first Cheap Ass Deal I got to be apart of.

01-14-2005, 11:54 AM
Game Rush, trade 2 get a used for $10, especially since the value of the 2 was subtracted from the $10...
It made for many "free" games, especially since they took PS1 games for the trade.

Anyone mention the Sears screw up of Ace Combat 5 for $5. Its like $45 off a hot new game.
Zenithian Legend
01-14-2005, 01:41 PM
The $5 CC sale was pretty crazy, and of course happened while Cheapy was off honeymooning ;)
I'd say that over the $5 screw up since I don't think as many people got in on that deal.
I'd also say pricematching the BB $5 deal at CC was pretty good to me, but that was YMMV so ya can't really count it.

This has already been posted ad nauseum, but it's worth posting again: the TRU free game sale in December is the single greatest B&M sale CAG has ever seen. I picked up a giant stack of games for zero dollars and was able to hook up my friends and myself with a bunch of generally good free stuff. Cheap is good, but free is best!

$5 CC Blow Out, on purpose sale. No question. Maybe the TRU green tag sale as a runner-up.

01-14-2005, 02:28 PM
I nominate the Target rainchecks...I got so many brand new games for over half off with those.
Don't forget the Ace Combat 5 for $5 at Sears.

I didn't get in the first or second $5 CC sale so I say TRU free games sale. That was just sweet.

TRU for me, easily. From several copies of REZ, to my ARC the Lad collection, Front Mission 3, Bust a Move 3000 and others, to the $10 coupon, to 25% more off already discounted games, to games that were just pretty cheap for some reason (Manhuint, ICO, XIII, Gladius). It gave me the bet deals of the year. Easily.

01-14-2005, 02:40 PM
Toys R Us 50% off sale but only coupled with the $5 off two $19.99 games and under coupon. The amount of free or relatively cheap games I got from this deal was amazing.

01-14-2005, 03:05 PM
i'll second, or third, or whatever Gamerush's trade 2 get any used for $10.
Backlash
01-14-2005, 03:31 PM
Definitely TRU 70% off coupled with the $10 off two under $20. That led to SO many free games! Why pay $5 when they can be free? :)

$5 dollar CC sale June 04
I vote for the overstock $2 game "sale." I cleaned up on that one. But since that isn't a choice...
$5 Circuit City Blow Out (June 2004)
I didn't really end up with much, as my CC put out crap titles mostly...
Jaxcomet
01-14-2005, 03:54 PM
The 50% off sale at Toys R Us was a joke in my area. Most of the games had jacked up prices to offset the sale....
M3wThr33
01-14-2005, 05:05 PM
It's not really 50% anymore. It would be better off labeled as "Green Tag" because some went to 70% and then it got crazy!
My first inclination is to vote for the Circuit City glitch, but then I have to consider how much stuff I've bought at TRU in the last 3 months.
My vote: Circuit City Glitch. I got many more quality games.

01-14-2005, 07:13 PM
although i think my favorite sale of the year was the $5 circuit city clearance over the summer, i think we should include the "trade three games get any preowned game for $9.99" from gamerush in the nominations. i was able to pick some great games with that deal. another contender could be the "$10 off any two games 19.99 or less" coupon from TRU, especially when it was combined with the green tag and clearance sales.

$5 CC summer sale, it was crazy
TimTucker
01-14-2005, 07:42 PM
It's really hard for me to pick between these two:
- Toys R US Clearance + $10 off 2 games $19.99 or less coupon
- Blockbuster Gamerush "Trade 3, get 1 Used Game for $10"
Both were great deals on their own, but together they were incredible! (Especially with things like Mojo! for XBOX free at TRU and trading in at $8 at BB)
I would say that the two deals combined (or 3 if you include the coupon as a separate deal from the clearance) were the best deal of the year.

$5 CC sale. Hands down IMO.
Same here.
Several GameRush deals were better than many of the things listed, but sadly they weren't avaliable everywhere, which will probally make this not a contender. :(
The trade 2 games get any used game for $10 was by far, the greatest deal this year for those that could get it. Amazing deal, since you could trade in any games from this generation plus PS1 games and you still got the fantastic credit for the games, too. Everybody loves GameRush! :D
Vinny
01-14-2005, 11:27 PM
I think TRU deserves a nod for their $10 off any two games under $20 coupon. Combined with green tag items or the two $20 games for $30, many people got some great deals.
Also, BB's RE4 as a PC title was great. :P

01-15-2005, 12:37 AM
I'd have to say the $5 CC blowout sale in June.
The $5 screw up came in at a very close second, but it didn't have me in as much of a frenzy as the June sale.

my vote goes for the Circuit City $5 sale which occured in the summer.

Best deal IMO was the trade 3 get one PO for 10 deal at Gamerush. I made off like a bandit there by only using 10 of my own games and plenty of PS1 games I bought at my EB.

$5 Circuit City Blow Out (June 2004)

$5 CC Sale in June by far, I was able to get 26 games off that sale. Good times
cousinlump
01-16-2005, 02:54 PM
Gotta be the Gamerush deal. I did so much playing and trading with them over the summer, I still have $20 credit left on my gift card. It is not often you find a deal where you can make money and get the latest games and it is completely legit.

01-17-2005, 08:01 PM
Toys R Us 70% Green Tag games, Buy 2 $19.99 for $30, plus the stackable magic coupon that took $10 any two games under $19.99 got me $250 worth of games for $35. Some of the highlignts I got in that deal where Castlevania LOI, Metal Gear Solid Substance, La Pucelle Tactics, Midway Arcade Treasure 2. Plus a slew of free games like Primal, Resident Evil Code Veronica, P.N.03, Blood Rayne, a bunch of sports games, a bunch of PS1 games. This was the best deal of the year even though it came at the end of 2004. A close second will have to be the $5 CC sale because it was B&M and Online. And third would be the Tower Records Clearance.
MorPhiend
01-17-2005, 09:38 PM
TRU Green Tag (50% off) combined with "$10 off two games $19.99 or less" coupon.
That was insanity.
EDIT: (I wasn't near a TRU after Christmas to take advantage of the 70% off... )
Oh well.

I agree. I've never been more excited in my life than to find out that, indeed, Circuit City was selling a shit-ton of games for $4.99. And better still, I was the first on at my store to cash in on it. I'll never forget the attention I got when I walked out with 21 brand new games for a touch over $100.
It's a tough call, though, considering I've spend close to $700 at TRU since the start of this Green Tag madness...

the $5 CC sale is hands down the greatest sale of last year. all i have to say is RE2, RE3, and Disgaea(sp), among others, for ridiculously cheap. thats tops everything in my book.
a close 2nd is the 10 off 2 games 20 or less at tru.

I'm sure the CC deal must have been great, but having missed that I'm not sure I'll ever be able to top getting a holiday edition xbox, slimline PS2, gameboy sp, about 50 PO games and still have a couple hundred credit at GR thanks to the TRU coupon and trade 3 deal.
Yes, I know I have a problem.

TRU Green Tag, because I still have the games and accessories. CC screw-up real close second, as there weren't many good games left. Almost all of those went towards trade-ins ad Game Rush which I used for a DS.

The TRU clearance sale and $10 off coupon was great, but its slim number of clearance games simply couldn't compete with the volume and variety of $5 games at Circuit City, especially if you got in on it early enough to truly take advantage of it.

I vote for the TRU green tag sale. I went the other day to see what they had left. I bought three Sega Sports games for $0.90. They were shrink wrapped together and the casheir took 70% off the green tag. I also bought several games when the sale first started.

The Circuit City thing pissed me off. They screwed up the date of the markdowns, and that was a time where I couldn't leave the house because I was watching after my brother and sister while my mom was in Vegas, so I totally missed out the first time around. When the other clearance came around, I did find a few $5 refugees, and picked up some $10 games. The Best Buy one came by suprise, and I was actually in the store that day not knowing there was a clearance going on. To my luck, though, I did pick up two $5 games. Of course, it seemed like there were hardly any of the markdown games at both Best Buy and Circuit City stores near me anyway, as the selection really doesn't compare to how some members here say what those stores have in stock.

I didn't get in on any of these, but I'll vote the $5 CC games for its notoriety.

The CC Screw Up! I got 14 games for $70. Most of those games were in the $20 range. Good stuff.

Voted TRU/Coupon.
I only got a few games from the July CC deal though all but Ephemeral Phantasia and Disgaea I have the ones I want now from the sale though I had tons of fun driving around with my friend looking for CCs and whatnot but I had even more fun doing the same with the TRU+Coupon deal. The TRU deal also allowed me to get into the Gamerush deals with the just amazing amount of games there was until they stopped taking Clubworld at the closest GRs. ;) Thanks to the TRU deal I had enough to get credit at GR and pick up most of the older PSX games I wanted as well as most PS2 games I wanted(which included the games from the CC deal I missed aside from the two mentioned), more than doubling my collection. Plus it was so amazingly fun traversing NE Ohio on the 31st cleaning up any left overs before the coupon died. So yeah, go TRU.
