I just bought DOA: Ultimate and it is the first DOA game that I have ever played. I do not understand how you counter moves and block. If someone could explain this to me I would appreciate it. Also if there are any good sites about DOA: Ultimate other than gamefaqs, could you please post it on here?

Going off of DOA3, the four face buttons are punch, kick, block/counter, and throw.

To block, hold the block/counter button.

To counter, tap the block/counter button along with back on the D-Pad. To block low or high attacks, do the same, but go diagonally back and up or down, respectively..

Maybe that helped you out?

Blocking can also be done simply by holding back, like in Street Fighter.

Glad I could help. You may also want to check and see if DOA3's analog-sensitive attacks are in the game, which would mean that pressing the punch or kick buttons lightly would result in a different move than hitting it hard. You should be able to tell the difference yourself (if that feature is in the game), if you keep an eye out for it.

Can anyone confirm whether or not DOA2:U uses analog-attacking from DOA3? (it was not present in DOA1)

(Didn't want to complicate things, just trying to help out a new DOA player.)

You also may want to check the instruction book or play through the game's sparring mode. Just a thought.

A change to the counter system from DOA3.

DOAU has two types of counters for mid-level attacks. Press backward for mid-punches and forward for mid-kicks. High and low counters and always backward+up diagonal and backward+down diagonal, respectively. This splits the middle level into two parts to better balance countering with other techniques. Also, note that the backward and forward mid-countering rule applies to countering jumping punches and jumping kicks. Jumping attacks are pretty rare, though.

Get into sparring mode, pause the game, and switch to exercise mode. The game will walk you through the entire movelist for your character, including all counters.

Its funny. I've been looking around for DOA 3 and I cant find it anywhere new in the stores (I dont like buying used games). It seems that this game and Xtreme Beach Volleyball are kinda rare.

I saw DOA 3 at Kmart new for $8.99 I believe. You should try there.

I just picked up DOA3 at Gamestop yesterday for the B2G1 free. It is 9.99 used there, and my copy was in almost perfect condition. I've seen it new at random BB and CC's in my area, but finding it used was difficult for some reason until yesterday.
