View Full Version : I think I got a genuinely sweet deal

I spent $75 at GameStop today on five games. I got:
(new) Katamari Damacy - $20 (last copy)
(new) Second Sight - $20 (last copy)
(used) Beyond Good & Evil - $15
(used) 007 Everything or Nothing - $18
(used) Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution - FREE
Apparently, at GameStop, though this may be YMMV, there's a buy 2 used games, get 1 free. You choose 3, and the cheapest one out of the three is free of charge. It's pretty nice, and I'm lucky this was going on when I went there. Do you guys think this was a good deal?

Well, to the average consumer it would be a good deal. To us jaded bastards on the site it is nothing to write home about, but also nothing to sneeze at.
Anyway, no need to be a dick.

That's a bad deal.. almost retail for all, and you overpaid on used copies of Beyond Good & Evil and 007 EoN. You could get EoN for $12.99 and BG&E for $14.99 both used from Gamefly.. bottom line is all of those retail for $20 and should be bought $14.99 used or under.. but for the quality of all those games, it's a great deal..

Agreed. Spend a little time here on CAG, and you can probably find all of those for half of what you paid. Good luck!

At some TRU's you can get BG&E for dirt cheap...~$6 at mine.
Regardless, congrats. Long as you're happy with it, is what's important.

Well, I try my best, but with the lack of a credit card to buy online and a car to drive to a lot of places in one day, my options are kind of limited. I have to take back Everything Or Nothing anyway, because fricking GameStop gave me a broken disc. I'll probably get F-Zero GX or something.
BG&E and Katamari Damacy sure are awesome though.

Oh well in that case you got a fine deal, but for the prices some of us payed for that stuff your deal doesn't look that good.

If you are happy with the deal, then that's the most important thing. Those are good games, regardless.
Last Thanksgiving I bought Castlevania:LOI and LOTR:Return of the King for $100 ($50 each). Yesterday I got 8 good PS2 games (including BG&E) for $15 total. Stick around and you will amaze yourself (though I see you joined before I did...).

You're not being very considerate calling him a prick...
Hey, no need to argue guys. If you can find three $10 games or less, then this is a sweet deal. Also dont foget this works for DVDs as well!

....what? You got 8 games for $15? That's less than $2 a game. Why do you think there's a typo in there...?

He's just being honest. These are so-so prices at best. No offense to the OP . . . if he read any of the deals regularly on this site, he'd know that Gamestop sucks
The GGC makes new copies of 007 EON $15 everyday, the CC glitch a weeks ago made it $5 (I got in on one!) . . . the TRU coupon makes it $10 this week . . . the other games he got? well, why go on . . .
The point isn't to berate him but really to question why he's bragging about these prices and he did ask "Do you guys think this was a good deal?"

I think asking if we think it was a good deal, means he's not bragging. If it were Yo check this out! I got these games for this much, so nyahh! that would be bragging.
He thinks he got a good deal, he states the prices, and asks our opinion.
A deal is in the eye of the beholder.
And he is definitely handicapped by not having a credit card to order online, and not having transportation. So based on how much he has been paying for games, that probably is a great deal.
I think the amazing deals we have gotten in the past have indeed jaded us, so much so that many of us mock people who pay 20 bucks or B2G1 used. But not everyone can get 100 $5 games at CC or whatever, it's based on a lot of things. And counting 'glitches' or pricing errors is hardly the same as pouncing on a legitimate deal.
Personally, for instance, I paid full price for Nocturne, and think I got a great deal, because it's an awesome game.
Meweight: What's important is that you think it was a good deal. There will be better deals to be found, but I'm not going to dis you for your purchase.
75 bucks for 5 games you enjoy is not a terrible deal at all.

It was part of the TRU deal. See that thread - some people did even better than I did.

Wow, apparently I've got a lot to learn. Well, I've got a few problems in addition to the lack of a credit card and reliable transportation.
First off, I have no idea where a Circuit City is in this area, or if there even is one. Same goes with Fry's and Wal-Mart. And the only TRU nearby is very far from where I live, so I don't often have a chance to go there. The only gaming stores I have nearby are an EBX, and a GameStop, plus that one gaming store partnered with Hollywood Video, which I've seen but never been to (is it any good?). Of course there's also Target, but my Target's "clearance" is a bunch of crap PSX games for $20 each.
I've figured that GameStop sucks (my Everything or Nothing crapped out on me before I could even play it so I have to return it), but they've always been the place that I go to, and I've rarely ever gone to EB, and never to the Hollywood Video place, and I'm just used to going to GameStop.

Honestly, they weren't awful deals . . . just not great ones :-)
I'm not a total genius . . . I thought I was getting a good deal when I bought the original Jax and Daxter for $48 (free shipping and no taxes) from Buy.com (on release day in 2001) and I bought Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for $50 at release . . . I watched the opening cinemas twice and never played it.
BTW, Where do you live?

You can often check store locations on store websites, I know Circuit City and Toys r Us offers this.

Hm, well, the nearest Best Buy, Circuit City, and Toys R Us are all in the same city, which is about 10-15 miles away from where I live. GameStop is in the same city, but it's at a mall I often go to, so that's the only reason I go there. I'm going again tomorrow to return Everything or Nothing.
