Blah blah blah.... just got back from the movies.... blah blah... Bill murray... blah... Inspired to make Top 10 list... blah blah... Best Aquatic games... blah blah....
And without further ado....
My picks for Top Ten Best Aquatic Games of All Time!
10. In the Hunt - PSone/Saturn
Sure, an Underwater R-Type sounds good on the drawing boards, but no one felt is was as good as its space based cousins... I've put some time into this ancient shooter.... and still love it regardless of ugly reviews. Pick it up on the cheap.
9. Jaws - NES
After collecting enough shells and turning your thumbs into human turbo controllers, I dare you to top the feeling of accomplishment that comes with finally slaying the big bite himself.
8. The Little Mermaid - NES
This was the only game in your sister's pile of NES games that always wound up in the system when she wasn't home... admit it... this game was fun in a Mega Man for girls kinda way.... and I don't mean Tron Bonne.
TIE 7. Sub Rebellion - PS2
This shooter popped its head out of the water at retail for about 30 seconds, then dove back into cheapass obscurity for some time...
Its a shame... its actually an intense bit of fun that I'd recommend for 3d action or even flight sim fans.
TIE 7. Deep Fighter - DC
A Lot like Sub Rebellion... just 2 years older... and on the DC.... and a whole disc longer..... and.... uhhh..... yeah they're both great.
6. Everblue 2 - PS2
We never saw the first in this series to hit the US shores... but one could easily mistake number 5 in its lineage because.....
5. Aquanauts Holiday - PSone
......both games feature an amazingly deep (ha ha.. get it? deep? ) amount of gameplay while simultaneously taking the pressure off of traditional gameplay elements like.... ya know... killing stuff... if you MUST kill things while roaming the seafloor... this game isnt for you... but this one.....
4. Treasures of the Deep - PSone
.....most definately is. Gold. Sharks. Harpoons. Mini-Subs. This one had it all. This is the one that always had me thinking.... what if they fused this with my favorite light gun series of all time... House of the Dead... why... then we'd be left with....
3. The Ocean Hunter - The Seven Seas Adventure - Arcade
.... I wasted so many quarters on this one... its not even that phenomenal... but I hold it close to me heart anyway... what can I say? I'm a sucker for sharks.... and a bigger sucker for lightguns. Look for it.
2. Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future - DC/PS2
The Ecco series has always been a bit of an aquatic mensa excersize, and the beautifully crafted 3d version took the cake. The soundtrack is extra dreamy, lighting and textures are beautuful, and the cheap ass prices you can find it at these days on either system are a big plus.
1. Seaman - DC
Groan all you want.... and yes... I suppose your seaman would evolve eventually onto terrain... but the amount of time spent flicking your fish in punishment for him making fun your sex life was enough to launch this game into a status so infamously legendary that I feel it was the most memorable aquatic game i've ever played. Just don't put the rental mic up to your face....
