I was originally thinking of getting SOCOM 1, but I heard that SOCOM 2 has all of SOCOM 1's multiplayer maps/modes plus more, plus I'm a little worried after hearing so many people complain about cheaters in the first game. I'm leaning towards getting SOCOM 2 now, but can anyone convince me to go the other way or spring for both? BTW, my BB doesn't have the SOCOM 1 w/ headset for $20.

I would start by renting the games and tring them out. I think socom 1 isn't a bad start as for cheaters yeh there are some but not that often -socom 2 online seems really choppy to me I hate it

Rent it first. I was going to get socom but after playing it at a friends house, I decided it wasnt worth it.

I'm still in a dilemma! I thought I'd do a little research into SOCOM 2 before buying it, and I found several reports of people complaining that the SOCOM 2 community has severely degraded, from players speaking antonio-like gibberish to veterans "tk"ing newbies left and right. Are players like that common? More common than SOCOM 1 cheaters?

from my experiences, i would get socom II. Its got everything socom I has plus more, and minus the cheaters which REALLY make the game no fun. i havent played socom 2 in a month or so, but i dont remember any of the "antonio speaking gibberish" or the "veterans tking newbies" going on.

Well, I decided to spring for both. Hopefully I can enjoy them and not let certain people (i.e. cheaters) spoil my fun.

Socom 1 is useless unless u have a group of friends still on the game to play with bc its filled with cheaters.

Socom 2 while the only real downfall to it is they screwed up imo a few older maps I loved in the original (rats) I would just get the sequal....much better game with very lil glitching, larger community and hopefully HDD support

I myself have 1 and 2 and play both of them online. I go to SOCOM 1 for practiceing to get better in socom 2. It really helps because the crowd in SOCOM 2 is waaaaay harder than the crowd in socom 1.

I haven't seen a tk (team kill) in probably 6 months, unless it was an accident (in a friendly fire on room) and as far as players speaking gibberish? Don't know about that, you may run into people who talk to much or are childish, but you can mute them. My beef with S2 is when there are a lot of people on, it may get a little laggy (I avoid the peak times).

For reference, I play S2 nearly every day and have logged over 167 hours online. Good game, I suggest Socom II over S1

SOCOM II is worth the higher cost just for the respawning games. Respawn games are the best way for a newbie to start out online; that way if you get shot right away, you won't have to wait until the round ends to play again. it's a great way to figure out strategies that work and ones that don't work...

^^my 2 cents...
