I looked up the release of Street Fighter....1987...17 years ago.
I thought maybe Street Fighter 2....1991...13 years ago...where are they coming up with these numbers? And I also compared japanese and american release dates and they are the same dates.
No complaining...just wondering why its 2 years late...or early...

Because 15 sounds better than 13.

Capcom needed money I guess, so they decided to "make up" a 15th year anniversery gimmick to sell SF Collection. Maybe it's been 15 years since they "thought" of the idea for Street Fighter 2.

when was the original street fighter released in the u.s.? When was street fighter 2 released in the arcades?
edit: It seems street fighters first appearance on a console was 12/04/88 link (http://www.pcecp.com/index.php?mode=catalog&action=info&gameid=234). It was released as fighting street for the pc engine cd (turbo grafx). That's would qualify for 15 years, since it wouldn't turn 16 until 12/04/04.

Well, the first 2 years sucked... or something like that.
They started touting "15th anniversary" with the release of their huge Street Fighter art book "Street Fighter: The Eternal Challenge" which came out 2+ years ago. The book lists SF1 as a 1987 release, so the release of the book was on their 15th anniversary. Since then, they've stuck with the "15th anniversary" tag for the toys, products and games.
If any of you are Capcomophiles, the Eternal Challenge book is being translated into english and is supposedly an exact duplicate of the Japanese release (270+ pages). It's 95% art - I saw the ad for it in one of the Street Fighter comics by uDon - I'm not sure who the publisher is.

When is Capcom actually going to put the original Street Fighter on a collection disc?

When are they going to make some new sprites? I've been staring at the same Ryu graphic since 1996.

I can't believe it's been that long ago. I will always remember playing Street Fighter II, in the arcades...

Yeah, Megaman 15th Anniversary from 2002-2005.
I guess we won't see those 25th Anniversary editions until like 2015 at least.

Well do they consider "Fighting Street" a Street Fighter Game? It was released for the Turbo Grafx Cd.

Well it was released by Hudson it says in 1988 which would make it 17 years old.

Its the oft-forgotten Street Figther 1. You play as Ryu/Ken (if I remember right, the only difference was hair/clothing color) and fight Sagat at the end of the game.
Also, I have a PC game called "CAPCOM ARCADE HITS VOLUME 1" which has Street Fighter and Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition on it too, so I guess that's the answer to how Capcom's going to release SF1 these days....
