View Full Version : Will you ever buy a "Limited Collector's Special Edition" again?
Every big release game seems to have some sort of "Special Edition" these days. Will you ever buy one at release again? I know I wont. Funny, we were all wondering if Halo 2 CE would be available for pre-orders only. Now there wherehouses full of 'em.

With something like halo 2 I was glad to pay $5 more. With DVDs I could care less. All I want is the movie, the extras dont interest me.

Only time I pay extra for a 'Collectors' edition is when it's for PC. Usually those versions are on DVD's which make it a breeze to install VS 5 to 6 CD's

Depends on the quality. Half-Life 2 dissapointed me more than anything ive ever been hyped up for (other than the US Godzilla movie) while World of Warcraft went above and beyond.
Halo 2's was a nice upgrade for $5
I'm very happy with the LE Halo 2. Only $5 more is fantastic for what I got. :)
I also plan on getting the LE Doom 3 for Xbox. It's $60 and comes with ports of Doom 1 and 2. It looks awesome.

Depends on what game it is and what the extra cost for the extras is. I could care less about the extras that came with MK Deception, except for the badass Scorpion slipcover. Halo 2's case is cool enough. But the situation with games is getting as bad as movies, where every damn DVD that comes out is a "Special Edition" with the same generic bonuses that come on every other disc, at least until an even more special edition is released.

If it's a game I'm really looking forward to, I'll probably get the limited edition if there is one. Other than that, it depends on the price and what extra is included.

It totally depends on what the game is, what the extras are, and what the price is. For some piece of crap making of DVD, I doubt I'll bite again, but if it's something cool like the OoT/Master Quest disc, then I'll bite.

Wow. I was thinking the same thing nearly word-for-word.

Well if the LE is anything like the KOF: Max Impact LE then Oh Hell No (absolutely the worst game DVD ever made).
Some of the LE's are rediculous. Seriously Doom 3 LE for $60? The game was total garbage when compared to HL2 and Halo 2. $10 is a fitting price for what came across as an elaborate graphics demo. Well it does have the original Doom 1 and 2 but it's not worth 60 bricks.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory LE has some interesting extras; mainly a Penny Arcade booklet and a Mega64 DVD clip. I'm sold.

It really depends on the extra content, that's bundled with any Limited Collector's Edition...

Its when the botch a special edition on an anticipated game, thats when it just hurts.

I agree with all you guys. It all depends on what the extras are and how much more is it. For movies, I usually go with the "special"/"limited" editions because the price difference isn't that big of a difference (usually $5 for me). But for games, it all depends on what exactly are you paying for.

I never buy games when they first come out unless they are on sale (I haven't payed $50 for a game in over 3 years), and chances are the SE/LE/CE won't be the cheaper one. I would pay an extra $5 for a few games, but never more than that.
I've bought a few games on the day they came out (or shortly thereafter) but I always used a trade-in deal or sale.
EDIT: Also with a PC game that's 5-6 cds, I will pay a little extra for a DVD edition. Luckily most of those games on DVD have been the same price (no way was I going to spend an extra $30 for Half-Life 2 LE!)

I love gimmicky stuff, I would always get the collector's edition if it's not too much more :)

Yes. If it's a game I want, I will always get the "special edition" over the normal edition, as long as the price isn't much more. $5-$10 is fine, but not $30 like HL2.
I'm a big DVD collector, so the idea of special edition video games is fabolous (to me at least)

the extras that come with the working designs games usually just seem like filler to make up for making a bad game

i dont think i would pay extra for LCSE game.......depends on which game........
I started watching the Halo 2 LE disc after reading this thread and I love it. I learned so much and it's really cool. :D
Also, I got the MechAssault 2 LE for the same price I would've paid for the normal version. I paid $30 for it at GameRush, so I obviously got it. :)

The Budokai 3 SE was underwhelming to what the descriptions made it seem like, but the game was awesome so it makes up for that. If it's a game I know I'll like, then I'll get it. I also enjoyed the Madden 2005 CE, great extras on that one.

Me personally, I have yet to see a collectors edition game that was worth collecting rather than just getting the regular. I'm open to hear anyone that can mention a CE game that was worth the difference in $$ (with the exception of madden having the retro games available in the CE, and having to work to unlock them in the regular).Thats just my 2 cents.

I guess it depends on the pack-ins and how into the game you are. Like I am totally into alot of the working designs stuff (Lunar ownz - sorry Dracula) or maybe the RE4 one. In time, some of this stuff will be collectors items. Halo 2 CE? Probably not, cause Micro$oft lied about how extremely limited it was (at my Gamestop, we still have more CE's than regular). But W.O.W.? That was REALLY limited. Like we got one shipment for the pre-orders and just like 3-4 extra copies. Then it was discontinued. I got to laugh at the fuckers who scoffed at me when I politely told them they should reserve it.

Depending on the game, I usually don't buy any CE or LE games. Halo 2 was the first and if I could find a Growlanser Generations Limited set for a decent price, I would get it.

The Mechassault 2 LE is very cool. There are a bunch of maps on it that aren't available anywhere else. There is also a demo of Forza Motorsport.
I'm sure the additional maps will eventually be available for download, but I like that you get it right off the bat at no extra cost.
Its an amazing game by the way, and I didn't love the first one.

If it's for a game I really like, sure. I'm looking forward to the Digital Devil Saga pack, that case looks hot.

Definitely depends on extra content, bonuses, and pricing.
Lord of the Rings, the EE was a no brainer. The set with the little monument thing, mm, no. I don't need another random knicknack, for 20-30 bucks [though it was cool.]
I like 'directors cuts' and SEs of DVDs, especially if they have a better transfer, better sound, or interesting extras, but I won't pay a whole lot more for them.
Games--rarely. Depends on the extras. Not for something pointless like a tin box, for instance. I did get the Growlanser deluxe pack; I like to support WD, the extras are somewhat useful [I like soundtracks], and I had credit and nothing else to buy anyway.
What's special about Digital Devil Saga? I liked that Nocturne was only released in the one format, with the soundtrack.

I don't have a problem putting down some extra money for extra's in the game or movie, if it is one that I was looking forward to getting

i'll only get a LE game if it includes something cool that the original doesnt have...such as dvd, collectibles, but posters, cases....screw that
