I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but as of (I believe May) all GameStop Employees' discounts go from 20% to 15%. Yep. Makes me want to work even harder for the company. Not much of a concern for everyone else, but I know the GameStop employees that use these boards are/will be pissed about this.

We still get 30 off there, but it doesn't change the fact that we're getting screwed. The "Awesomely Logical Reason" it's getting cut is because employees were supposedly using it for their friends. If this were the case(Which I doubt) the arguement is still illogical due to the fact that there is STILL A DISCOUNT. They're just screwing us over, plain and simple, without good reason.

like you said "theres still a discount" count yourself lucky. some of us dont have any money off (15% is a decent amount, 7.50 off any 50 game, thats better than ggc). i would love for that job. hanging around vid games and get em cheaper too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still grateful for a discount. The problem I have is the fact that there isn't a good reason to cut it. They're just doing it and giving us some bullshit reason while preaching comapny loyalty and sales pushing. Cutting my discount is a great way to make me sell more.

of course people give their friends the discount. what good is having a friend if they don't get you a discount at where they work?
seriously, though, 20% is a reasonable discount. that's what i get off of new product where i work, and it puts things at just above cost, so everyone is ok with it. the thing is, you should get a larger percentage off of used product. i think that a 25% employee discount off of used product is more than reasonable.
i'd be pretty irritated,

i used to work for a mom andpop game shop and i didnt have a written discount, but if i wanted to buy somethingthe owner would hook me up, and, best bonus ever, i could just barrow any used game for a week at a time

Fuck GameStop and all their rude employees . I think they should have to pay 20% to 15% more for a game just for being schmucks .

Well, everyone has to pay the sales tax, so it will still effectively be 15% off what the public pays.
Anytime a benefit gets cut it sucks ass. At least they didn't try to spin the reduced discount as a wonderful new benefit for employees somehow. (I'm sure they had a few meetings at corporate about how to pull that, but came up dry.)

While cutting any benefit does suck, sometimes it's the 'lesser of two evils.' I don't know how many employees GameStop has, but if we say 1000 people buy a 50$ game with the discount each month, by cutting it to 15% the company saves 2,500 a month [and that is probably quite a low estimate]. What's the markup level on video games? I don't know how much they pay employees, but that 2500 bucks could be the difference between an employee discount and 'releasing' three or four employees.
A Gamestop has opened near the WalMart we go to, and I actually kinda like it--its clean, bright, not too hot [the EB in the mall is always like 80 degrees], not too crowded, and the people seem friendly.

Prepare to be humbled. Compuware employees (like my girlfriend's father) had to take a 5% pay cut. all of them. and there were MANY more factors to add to that to make life hellish. Good thing they just spent millions making a nice looking building in a shitty city (Detroit)...oh, and then making all of the employees work there thus making them pay Detroit taxes. assholes

Well, it's surely not a py cut, thank god for that because I don't think they can cut my pay much more before it's no longer the minimum wage. Again, I'm still glad I have a discount, but I'm pissed because of the sudden nature of the cut and the "surprising" lack of a valid reason. Nothing is more fun that going into work and seeing a mass-store email that drones on about psuhing reserves ad then at the very end says "by the way, as of May 1st, 2004 employee discounts will go from 20% to 15%."
