While online play would be a damn nice addition, I really want the ability to download updated rosters and club teams (English club teams for example).
Reguradless, the game looks fantastic!

online play does not make a game.
winning eleven is an awesome series and i bet this will be an awesome game, with or without online play.
stop judging games for frills they lack.

Any word on this coming to Gamecube? I've been waiting for this to come to xbox/gamecube, even though I'm not a soccer fan. I just kind of prefer the gamecube controller versus xbox for sports games.

As my dad used to say whenever I wanted something: "Its good to want things. It does not mean you are going to get them."
I would be more than happy with the improvements they have listed in the preview. Quite frankly, WE is the best sports series on the planet. I only have a passing interest in Footie, but the game holds my interest more so than any NFL game (and I am an NFL freak).

I have not heard about a GC version. The XBox version is new addition this year.

If I'm not mistaken the game is already out and Europe. I remember reading somewhere that online play did not work very well over there and that is why they are canceling it. Which is too bad that they don't seem willing to work on the servers more, but I guess its better than having a flawed online thats not going to be fixed. I'll see if I can find any solid info on it again.

Just because it doesn't mention online play doesn't mean it won't be there. Live play is considered so standard now that it usually isn't even mentioned anymore. That would suck if there was no online play, but having the world's greatest soccer game on the 'Box is still something to get excited about.

Well, nothing I found points to the US version having it, so I'd say it's a no go this time around. Although I did find this http://www.pesinsight.com/news.php#fus_216 for an upcoming upgrade to the PS2 WE8 that will include online play. I guess we just have to hold out hope that Live is in this time around or it will be for next years version.
And if Konami doesn't include it this year, it's their loss, cuz I would have easily dropped full price for it like I did last year.

Then they better have a fucking good reason for not including it.

Don't tell me why or why I can not judge a game. Online play happens to be the deciding factor for particular games like sports games for me. This is because in sports games you can find a way to always beat the computer. This is why online is important to me.

I was very bummed about no LIVE play, that was a huge reason for me finally buying an Xbox. With no LIVE play though, and no willingness to get a controller adapter, I'll stick with the PS2 version.
And I heard a patch will be/was released in Europe to fix some online issues like lag, and penalising quitters.
Don't be surprised if WE8 takes a few knocks when it gets reviewed for no online play, cause many see it as a necessity nowadays. Especially to really compete with FIFA, cause FIFA's at least really openly trying to fix up their gameplay. All I see new in WE8 is some animations, a referee on the pitch, and more than 1 person can take free kicks.
Even with sayin all that, I will have no qualms with WE8, and will play the shit out of it like the others. But I guess I'll have to wait another year to play another human for the first time....

What?! Few months ago I read on IGN that it's on Live, what the hell happened.
Oh well, I guess I'll stick to my import PS version and the computer version.
