You have to admit they are both aggressive and successful at what they do regardless of how much bad PR they get.
I'm sure many people who buy games really don't care or notice what EA is doing.

No I won't.
With that increased firepower, the Finding Nemo video game looks just like the movie, but it will be interactive.
Just what i've always wanted..
"One idea could be that you're controlling a family, telling them when to go to the kitchen and when to go to the bedroom, and with this mechanism you have gamers all over the world 'playing the show'," said Mr Bolz.
OMG LOL or we could make our own TV dinner and go to bed, you fucking retard
"There's an indication that a 30 year old comes home from work and still wants to play games.
*NEWSFLASH* This just in! Adults play games, too! Film at 11!

Oh man. You know that, but obviously the Orange Bowl Committee did not. And guess what? She will keep on coming back, like a freaking zombie, whether on TV or the halftime shows, or whatever, cause YOU WILL LIKE HER. Just like you will love EA.

Maybe this doesn't belong here but this article is the very foundation of my thesis on the future of video-gaming.
The emphasis of modern day video games is how "real" they look, seem, and feel to the end user. As stated from the article:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Games like Fifa are approaching photo realism
Video game giant Electronic Arts (EA) says it wants to become the biggest entertainment firm in the world.
"We will be able to bring more people into gaming because games will be more emotional."
Mr Florin predicted that the next round of games console would give developers enough power to create real emotion.
'Increased firepower'
"It's the subtleties, the eyes, the mouth - 5,000 polygons doesn't really sell the emotion.
"With PS3 and Xbox 2, we can go on the main character with 30,000 to 50,000 polygons," he said.
"With that increased firepower, the Finding Nemo video game looks just like the movie, but it will be interactive."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While this may sound good on paper, to those of us old-schoolers that remember gaming before the NES 8-bit and the Mario monopoly, this seems to be reaching its pinnacle and eveything else is just a copy of another game's success or even failure.
Today, we have game depicted drug deals, ethnic gangs, car-jackings, drug abuse, prostitute solicitation (all from 1 game, GTA SA).
Leisure Suit Larry is another fine example. Now I simply love these games but all this, to give you a sense of pushing the boundaries of video-gaming as never before.
Now let's toss in the realism kick. Xbox, PS3, and whatever else comes along will offer unprecedented ability to capture the finest details of human and animal nature alike.
Since the 8-bit revolution the push in the industry is to make video games more "Real" and each successive home console since offered just that.
But the true question is, once this "realism" kick is fully utilized and there is no further (no "realer") it can be taken, what direction will the industry take?
The only logical conclusion is to go backwards. Back to the "Fantasy" world that we all fell in love with that has kept us gaming this long in the first place.
Hmph, maybe just the ramblings of a madman,

I've been thinking the same thing for quite a long time. I never really wanted the VG industry to go down the "realism" route. I like the fantasy worlds, where the harshiest consequence is a Game Over screen, where you could do thinks that would never be possible. Personally I love VGs becasue they're an escape from this harsh, pathetic existence we call reality.
EA's just trying to grow and make as much money as they can for it's shareholders. It's the goal of every publicly traded company in America.

EA and their enterprising notwithstanding; it's a matter of the 3rd party software developers. There's little to no difference in the capabilities of the Big 3 consoles right now.
It's where they are headed; their direction. Xbox is moving towards an increased base of online gaming customers...it's MS people, did you expect anything less?
PS2 is not refined just yet. They're in it for the cash and dominance of the American market. Their attempting to break into the portable gaming which is very risky, but at least they are willing to broaden their horizons.
Gamecube is still vintage Nintendo business. Still making money off Zelda, Mario, DK, etc. and doing a damn good job of it. It seems like they are playing catchup but demonstrating they can keep up and offer the titles you know with the new technologies.
But with a few hardware variances these 3 consoles offer comparable grafx and sound.
I own a PS2. It acts as a DVD player 95% of it's life and I have alot of games. I'm disenchanted and very disappointed with the new consoles and their direction.

It never fails. A video game exec looks forward to more powerful hardware and someone immediately begins whining that he doesn't have any fun with the current stuff and misses the 8-bit days.
It's a vastly bigger industry now. The array of titles coming this year includes a wide range of things that would have been pointless to attempt in the 8-bit days because the result would have been much too abstract. Much of what engaged players of Final Fantsy X was the way the detailed character could convey emotions and play out scenes. While they managed a few good moments in NES/SNES games it took a lot more effort on the player's part to get misty eyed over a 24x24 sprite and a severely constrained memory budget for storing game data.
It is no different than what has happened in film since FX technology began advancing by leaps and bounds since the advent of cheap computers for motion control and later CGI. There have been endless wouldbe blockbusters that had spectacular visual sequences but were ultimately lousy movies. However, as access to those technologies got less expensive a wider range of creator have been able to use them for good stories. This is especiall true where they come into reach of TV production where it was possible to do more longterm strytelling and character development.
The next generation of hardware won't just benefit those companies that can afford multi-year, multi-million dollar development but also those who could have done great things on current hardware but couldn't afford the time and cost to extract the full capability of that hardware. Things that required a major effort on this generation will be trival on the next. There will be games that don't take full advantage of the new hardware but are nonetheless great pieces of work when taken on their own merits.

Oh ye of little understanding,
As previously articulated; and very well I might add, the big 3 game systems offer the same capabilities with little in the way of DIVERSITY.
No distinction other than controller design, console size, and/or this one plays dvds or this one has a hard drive.
In days past, consoles such as the Genesis and the SNES, Saturn and the PSX, and the Dreamcast all introduced a very different scheme than it's respective counterpart. Almost to the degree of complementing them in their differences.
It made owning each individual system entertaining. With the choices of consoles now it appears we are ever closer to the great gaming plateau.
